This study investigates discourse markers (DMs) development and diversity in accordance with the Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) approach employed in online news articles. 867 football news articles were downloaded from Al-Jazeera.net to analyse the use of discourse markers (DMs) based on previous studies along with Modern Standard Arabic grammar books as well as the theories of Fraser (2005) and Al-Khawaldeh (2014). Both data coding and analysis were completed manually. The results showed that in linking textual fragments, discourse markers under the Additive category are the most frequently used within all the articles. In fact, the study also found that DM wa was most frequently used in articles compared to other discourse markers. For each category, the researcher discovered a set of new discourse markers that were not considered in previous works. The manual coding process has also led to the discovery of a new category – Affirmative, with a comprehensive list of discourse markers. It is hoped that this study can function as an important reference for researchers who are interested to delve deeper into the area

A simple route to vertical array of quasi-1D ZnO nanofilms on FTO surfaces: 1D-crystal growth of nanoseeds under ammonia-assisted hydrolysis process

    Get PDF
A simple method for the synthesis of ZnO nanofilms composed of vertical array of quasi-1D ZnO nanostructures (quasi-NRs) on the surface was demonstrated via a 1D crystal growth of the attached nanoseeds under a rapid hydrolysis process of zinc salts in the presence of ammonia at room temperature. In a typical procedure, by simply controlling the concentration of zinc acetate and ammonia in the reaction, a high density of vertically oriented nanorod-like morphology could be successfully obtained in a relatively short growth period (approximately 4 to 5 min) and at a room-temperature process. The average diameter and the length of the nanostructures are approximately 30 and 110 nm, respectively. The as-prepared quasi-NRs products were pure ZnO phase in nature without the presence of any zinc complexes as confirmed by the XRD characterisation. Room-temperature optical absorption spectroscopy exhibits the presence of two separate excitonic characters inferring that the as-prepared ZnO quasi-NRs are high-crystallinity properties in nature. The mechanism of growth for the ZnO quasi-NRs will be proposed. Due to their simplicity, the method should become a potential alternative for a rapid and cost-effective preparation of high-quality ZnO quasi-NRs nanofilms for use in photovoltaic or photocatalytics applications

Abstract. ISO 14649 standard, commonly recognized as STEP-NC is a data model interface for computer numerical controllers. STEP-NC goes much further that G codes and has a more comprehensive data model that overcomes the lack of process information in ISO 6983 files (G codes programming). The STEP compliant approach brings the possibility to integrate the machine controller to the overall enterprise information network, with the intention of having bi-directional data flow. This will provide the novel capability for upstream feedback of information from the numerical controller to the design and process areas in the process planning and manufacturing. This paper presents the key concepts of the proposed STEP Convertor of the STEP-CNC Mapping System. The objective of the main system is to take a generic STEP file as the input to drive a CNC machine tool. The main system is broken down into two main sub-systems, STEP Convertor and STEP-NC Translator. This paper will focus solely on the information structure and conceptualization of the STEP Convertor

The present work is focused on the photocatalytic activities of Al-doped ZnO sample deposited with different layers on glass substrate. The Al-doped ZnO sample was prepared via simple and cost effectiveness chemical precipitation method with addition of 5 wt. % of Aluminum chloride as dopant. All materials were dissolved in mixture of 45 mL ethylene glycol and 15 mL deionized water while the growth process was carried out at temperature 200 °C for 30 min assisted with stirring process at 550 rpm using hotplate. The precipitated of as prepared sample were deposited with different layers on glass substrate using spin coating process. The samples were characterized by UV-Vis spectrophotometer, Raman spectroscopy, and photoluminescence to investigate the optical properties and crystal structure of ZnO sample. In particular, according to UV-Vis the absorption spectra of the sample significantly increase as the number of layers increase. Meanwhile, Raman and photoluminescence analysis indicate that the sample contains lots of structural defect as a result of the incorporation of ion Al into ZnO lattice. The photocatalytic activity of Al-doped ZnO thin film with different layers was evaluated in degradation of methyl blue solution under UV light illumination. The best photocatalytic activity was observed from 6 layers of Al-doped ZnO thin film within 45 min of exposure to UV light illumination. This study may open a versatile route to achieving high efficiency of photocatalytic activity of ZnO
