    FRONT FOOT SLIDE VARIABILITY AND ITS RELATION TO TENPIN BOWLING PERFORMANCE

    In tenpin bowling, bowlers try to knock down as many pins as possible with the allotted number of tries. In the modern power game, they achieve this by generating a lot of momentum using heavy balls released accurately at great velocities (Strickland, 1996). It must be done consistently over many tries. Although accuracy of the front foot slide during the delivery phase seems less relevant compared to the accuracy of the ball release, its consistency is still paramount. The ability to slide the front foot consistently presumably enables the bowler to have a predictable stable base to deliver the ball more accurately. Variability in performing sports skills has been studied in various disciplines such as javelin and basketball (Bartlett, 2008), but no published data is available on tenpin bowling. In fact, published work on tenpin bowling is rather scarce; the only recent study was by Chu and colleagues (2002) which compared a number of kinematic variables in the sagittal plane between male and female bowlers. The purpose of this study was to look at how variability of the front foot slide was related to average bowling score (Bave) and ball release velocity (BRvel ). In addition, the variability of the foot kinematics between elite and amateur bowlers was also compared

    This research aims to discover whether there is correlation between self concept and adjustment of graders X students of SMA Islam Bawari Pontianak. The method of this research is descriptive research with quantitative approach. Sample of research in this research is 69 student in grade X. the result showed that the self concept graders X SMA Islam Bawari Pontianak reached 75,49% in the span of a good or positif. While the adjusment graders X SMA Islam Bawari Pontianak reached 75,71 in the good range. The result of product moment correlation between the two variables was obtained rhitung = 0,763 which means showing that there is a positive correlation between self concept and adjustment graders X SMA Islam Bawari Pontiana

    The aim of this paper is to report on the biomechanics project during the final rounds of Thomas & Uber Cup 2000 Badminton Championships. The results of three-dimensional analysis are also reported. To capture the data of world-class badminton players in competition, six synchronized video cameras were used to record video images at 50 field/second for 3-dimensional motion analysis during the Thomas & Uber Cup 2000 Badminton Championships in Malaysia. The semi-final and final matches were recorded. Some of the data was selected, analyzed and published in this paper

    RUTIN RESTORE BIOCHEMICAL CHANGES, OXIDATIVE STRESS AND BETATROPHIN LEVEL IN STZ-INDUCED DIABETIC RATS

    Objective: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is associated with long-term damage, dysfunction, of various organs. Study aims to assessrole of rutin on experimentally induced diabetes. Methods: 50 adult male albino rats divided into 5 groups. Group I (control group, rats were orally administered with 1 ml saline daily). Group II (DMSO group, rats were orally administered with 0.2 % DMSO for 60 d orally). Group III (positive control, animals were injected intraperitoneally with 60 mg/kg b. wtstreptozotocin followed by intraperitoneal injection with 120 mg/kg b. wt of Nicotinamide after 15 min). Group IV (therapeutic group, diabetic rats treated with 100 mg/kg b. wt of rutin for 60 d orally). Group V (standard group, diabetic animals treated with 100 mg/kg b. wt of metformin for 60 d orally). At the end of the experimental period blood serum and plasma, liver, kidney and pancreatic tissues were collected. Results: Diabetic rats showed a significant increase in plasma glucose, serum urea, creatinine, cholesterol and triglyceride. Also, induced oxidative stress as pointed out an increase in MDA level, decrease in GSH level, GST and CAT activities in compared to control group. Also, showed an increase in plasma and tissues levels of betatrophin. Oral administration of rutin cause decrease in elevated biochemical and oxidative stress parameters. Also, decrease betatrophin level when compared with diabetic rats. Our results were confirmed by histopathological examination of different tissues. Conclusion: This study suggests thatrutinexihibitsantihyperglycemic and antioxidant activity in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats

    Effect of different drying methods and solvent ratios on biological activities of Phyllanthus acidus extracts

    The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities of Phyllanthus acidus. The P. acidus fruits were dried using three different methods, namely oven (OD), air (AD) and freeze (FD) dryings and extracted with ethanol at different ratios (50 and 100%). The proximate analysis and total phenolic content (TPC) as well as free radical scavenging and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities were determined. The proximate analysis of P. acidus fruit indicated that all the dried samples contained potential nutrient contents. The highest TPC value, α-glucosidase inhibitory and antioxidant activities were observed for 50% ethanolic extract from OD method with TPC value of 28.39 mg GAE/g dried extract, IC50 value of 12.394 μg/mL and 64.17% inhibition, respectively. The study revealed that phenolic compounds could be the main contributors to the antioxidant and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities based on the Pearson correlation coefficients with R values of 95.0 and 73.8%, respectively. The study could provide scientific evidence for some folk uses in the treatment of diseases related to the production of reactive oxygen species and oxidative stress

    Enhanced flatness of 20 Ghz channel spacing multiwavelength Brillouin-Raman fiber laser with sub-millimeter air gap

    We discover the technique of controlling the flatness in signal amplitude of a multiwavelength Brillouin-Raman fiber laser by employing an air-gap outside of the cavity. The structure that is adjustable within sub-millimeter length behaves as flexible optical feedback that provides modifiable portions of multiple Fresnel reflectivities. This is the main benchmark that allows the efficient management of gain competition between self-lasing modes and Brillouin Stokes waves that is vital for self-flattening initiation. When setting the Brillouin pump wavelength at 1529 nm and the air-gap distance to 0.4 mm, 296 Stokes lines are produced with a channel spacing of 0.158 nm. The lasing bandwidth is 46.60 nm that covers from 1529.16 to 1575.76 nm wavelength. In this case at Raman power of 950 mW, the intense Brillouin pump power of 2 dBm saturates the cascaded higher-orders lasing lines. As a result, the overall peak power discrepancy is maintained at just 1.8 dB where an average optical-signal-to-noise ratio of 20 dB is realized. To date, this is the widest bandwidth with the flattest spectrum attained in multiwavelength fiber lasers that incorporate a single Raman pump unit

    A position paper on primary health care for the management of mental health in Zimbabwe.This paper reports on a process whereby research findings, generated by a collaborative project between primary health care workers and a University team, were utilized by a community to formulate local plans for the prevention and management of depression. Action-oriented research, with a high level of community participation, follows on directly from the Declaration of Alma-Ata1 and has been called Health Systems Research (HSR). The principle of HSR is that it should be useful and have a direct focus on solving practical and relevant problems.2 Priorities should be generated by health workers and by the community rather than purely by academics and as much as possible of the research should be carried out by those already working at ground level. Results should lead to implementable recommendations and the research is not complete until those recommendations are underway

    Multiwavelength half-linear cavity Brillouin erbium fiber laser (BEFL) has been demonstrated. The half-linear cavity BEFL is formed by utilizing only two circulators: one circulator acts as input and output ports and the other circulator is used to form a physical mirror. This design exhibits low peak power difference between the adjacent channels, which is about 0.8 dB. At Brillouin pump (BP) power of 5 dBm and erbium doped fiber (EDF) pump power of 90 mW, up to 19 channels over a wide range of 40 nm (1529 nm to 1569 nm) have been obtained. These channels are free from self lasing cavity modes and for the first twelve Stokes lines, the optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) is approximately higher than 20 dB
