    In the original published version of this article, the bulk densities of the powder ZIF-8 and ZIF-67 were quoted as 0.96 g/cm3 and 0.94 g/cm3 respectively. However, the values for the powder samples’ true density were quoted in error. The correct bulk densities, used for calculating volume-relative capacities and surface areas, were 0.39 g/cm3 and 0.38 g/cm3 for ZIF-8 and ZIF-67, respectively. As this affects the calculated ‘volume-relative’ quantities, corrected tables and graphs are included below. The authors apologise for any inconvenience or confusion this error may have caused.     Consumer perceptions of co-branding alliances: Organizational dissimilarity signals and brand fit

    This study explores how consumers evaluate co-branding alliances between dissimilar partner firms. Customers are well aware that different firms are behind a co-branded product and observe the partner firms’ characteristics. Drawing on signaling theory, we assert that consumers use organizational characteristics as signals in their assessment of brand fit and for their purchasing decisions. Some organizational signals are beyond the control of the co-branding partners or at least they cannot alter them on short notice. We use a quasi-experimental design and test how co-branding partner dissimilarity affects brand fit perception. The results show that co-branding partner dissimilarity in terms of firm size, industry scope, and country-of-origin image negatively affects brand fit perception. Firm age dissimilarity does not exert significant influence. Because brand fit generally fosters a benevolent consumer attitude towards a co-branding alliance, the findings suggest that high partner dissimilarity may reduce overall co-branding alliance performance

    Rac1 and Rac3 GTPases Regulate the Development of Hilar Mossy Cells by Affecting the Migration of Their Precursors to the Hilus

    We have previously shown that double deletion of the genes for Rac1 and Rac3 GTPases during neuronal development affects late developmental events that perturb the circuitry of the hippocampus, with ensuing epileptic phenotype. These effects include a defect in mossy cells, the major class of excitatory neurons of the hilus. Here, we have addressed the mechanisms that affect the loss of hilar mossy cells in the dorsal hippocampus of mice depleted of the two Rac GTPases. Quantification showed that the loss of mossy cells was evident already at postnatal day 8, soon after these cells become identifiable by a specific marker in the dorsal hilus. Comparative analysis of the hilar region from control and double mutant mice revealed that synaptogenesis was affected in the double mutants, with strongly reduced presynaptic input from dentate granule cells. We found that apoptosis was equally low in the hippocampus of both control and double knockout mice. Labelling with bromodeoxyuridine at embryonic day 12.5 showed no evident difference in the proliferation of neuronal precursors in the hippocampal primordium, while differences in the number of bromodeoxyuridine-labelled cells in the developing hilus revealed a defect in the migration of immature, developing mossy cells in the brain of double knockout mice. Overall, our data show that Rac1 and Rac3 GTPases participate in the normal development of hilar mossy cells, and indicate that they are involved in the regulation of the migration of the mossy cell precursor by preventing their arrival to the dorsal hilus

    Monolithic ZIF-8 and ZIF-67 adsorbents are synthesized at room temperature using a novel, ligand-assisted method. Despite reductions in crystallinity within some of the samples, monolithic zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) have superior volume-relative microporosity, total porosity, and surface areas relative to their particulate counterparts due to increased density. Samples synthesized using a single modulator, n-butylamine, have a hierarchical porosity resulting in improved adsorption capacities in mid- to high- sorbate pressure regions. ZIF-67 monoliths produced through mixedmodulator synthesis, n-butylamine and 1-methylimidazole, are almost entirely microporous. Vapor adsorption isotherms find that, whilst their amorphous content results in increased water uptake, monolithic ZIFs are found to possess higher surface and adsorption hydrophobicity than traditional nonpolar adsorbents. Cosorption measurements with a common VOC toluene, under humid conditions, find that these monolithic ZIF samples outperform powder equivalents, with the mixed-modulator ZIF-67 monolith capturing 28% more VOC compared to the powder ZIFs studied due to its superior volumetric efficiency. This study provides insights into the benefits of modulator-based tuning of porosity within monolithic ZIFs which, combined with their hydrophobicity, may facilitate their application for industrial organic vapor recovery or indoor air cleaning, where efficient hydrophobic adsorbents which can operate in humid environments are essential

    Zika outbreak of 2016: insights from twitter

    An outbreak of the Zika virus in 2016 caused great concern among the general public and generated a burst of tweets. The aim of this study was to develop a better understanding of the types of discussions taking place. Tweets were retrieved from the peak of the Zika outbreak (as identified by Google Trends). Tweets were then filtered and entered in NVivo to be analysed using thematic analysis. It was found that tweets on Zika revolved around seven key themes: pregnancy, travel and the Olympics, mosquitoes and conspiracy, health organisations, health information, travel and tracking, and general discussions around Zika. Our results are likely to be of interest to public health organisations disseminating information related to future outbreaks of Zika and we develop a set of preliminary recommendations for health authorities

    Same-sex sexual attraction does not spread in adolescent social networks

    Peers have a powerful effect on adolescents' beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors. Here, we examine the role of social networks in the spread of attitudes towards sexuality using data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (Add Health). Although we found evidence that both sexual activity (OR = 1.79) and desire to have a romantic relationship (OR = 2.69) may spread from person to person, attraction to same sex partners did not spread (OR = 0.96). Analyses of comparable power to those that suggest positive and significant peer-to-peer influence in sexual behavior fail to demonstrate a significant relationship on sexual attraction between friends or siblings. These results suggest that peer influence has little or no effect on the tendency toward heterosexual or homosexual attraction in teens, and that sexual orientation is not transmitted via social networks
