The static electric polarizability of a particle bound by a finite potential well

In this paper we derive an expression for the static electric polarizability of a particle bound by a finite potential well without the explicit use of the continuum states in our calculations. This will be accomplished by employing the elegant Dalgarno-Lewis perturbative technique.Comment: 14 Pages, 2 Table

Reading in the Zone of Proximal Development: Mediating Literacy Development in Beginner Readers through Guided Reading

    Get PDF
Because the term direct instruction has been and is used broadly, it has come to define all types of explicit teaching. Thus, a traditional basal approach - where children are grouped for instruction by their abilities (high, average, and low) and where the teaching is often predetermined or scripted - is unwittingly compared to guided reading. The major objective of this article is to demonstrate that the fundamental difference between the two approaches lies in pitching instruction to the child\u27s literacy level and the need for dynamic grouping of children for instruction

Restructuring Teaching Strategies For Unstructed Basal Stories

This article proposes to identify some of the trouble spots in basal stories caused by the uses of vocabulary control and readability formula, the inherent features of commercial texts. Additionally, for a more effective employment of the basal reader, specific suggestions will be made that will enable teachers to help their young readers to construct meaning from stories that are less than perfect

Ground State of the Hydrogen Atom via Dirac Equation in a Minimal Length Scenario

In this work we calculate the correction to the ground state energy of the hydrogen atom due to contributions arising from the presence of a minimal length. The minimal length scenario is introduced by means of modifying the Dirac equation through a deformed Heisenberg algebra (kempf algebra). With the introduction of the Coulomb potential in the new Dirac energy operator, we calculate the energy shift of the ground state of the hydrogen atom in first order of the parameter related to the minimal length via perturbation theory.Comment: 11 page

Two-dimensional beam tracing from visibility diagrams for real-time acoustic rendering

    Get PDF
We present an extension of the fast beam-tracing method presented in the work of Antonacci et al. (2008) for the simulation of acoustic propagation in reverberant environments that accounts for diffraction and diffusion. More specifically, we show how visibility maps are suitable for modeling propagation phenomena more complex than specular reflections. We also show how the beam-tree lookup for path tracing can be entirely performed on visibility maps as well. We then contextualize such method to the two different cases of channel (point-to-point) rendering using a headset, and the rendering of a wave field based on arrays of speakers. Finally, we provide some experimental results and comparisons with real data to show the effectiveness and the accuracy of the approach in simulating the soundfield in an environment

Supporting translation of research evidence into practice—the use of Normalisation Process Theory to assess and inform implementation within randomised controlled trials: a systematic review

Background: The status of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) as the ‘gold standard’ for evaluating efficacy in healthcare interventions is increasingly debated among the research community, due to often insufficient consideration for implementation. Normalisation Process Theory (NPT), which focuses on the work required to embed processes into practice, offers a potentially useful framework for addressing these concerns. While the theory has been deployed in numerous RCTs to date, more work is needed to consolidate understanding of if, and how, NPT may aid implementation planning and processes within RCTs. Therefore, this review seeks to understand how NPT contributes to understanding the dynamics of implementation processes within RCTs. Specifically, this review will identify and characterise NPT operationalisation, benefits and reported challenges and limitations in RCTs. Methods: A qualitative systematic review with narrative synthesis of peer-reviewed journal articles from eight databases was conducted. Studies were eligible for inclusion if they reported sufficient detail on the use of NPT within RCTs in a healthcare domain. A pre-specified data extraction template was developed based on the research questions of this review. A narrative synthesis was performed to identify recurrent findings. Results: Searches identified 48 articles reporting 42 studies eligible for inclusion. Findings suggest that NPT is primarily operationalised prospectively during the data collection stage, with limited sub-construct utilisation overall. NPT is beneficial in understanding implementation processes by aiding the identification and analysis of key factors, such as understanding intervention fidelity in real-world settings. Nearly three-quarters of studies failed to report the challenges and limitations of utilising NPT, though coding difficulties and data falling outside the NPT framework are most common. Conclusions: NPT appears to be a consistent and generalisable framework for explaining the dynamics of implementation processes within RCTs. However, operationalisation of the theory to its full extent is necessary to improve its use in practice, as it is currently deployed in varying capacities. Recommendations for future research include investigation of NPT alongside other frameworks, as well as earlier operationalisation and greater use of NPT sub-constructs. Trial Registration: The protocol for this systematic review was accepted for public registration on PROSPERO (registration number: CRD42022345427) on 26 July 2022

Extraction of acoustic sources for multiple arrays based on the ray space transform

    Get PDF
In this paper we present a source extraction technique for multiple uniform linear arrays distributed in space. The technique adopts the Ray Space Transform representation of the sound field, which is inherently based on the Plane Wave Decomposition. The Ray Space Transform gives us an intuitive representation of the acoustic field, thus enabling the adoption of geometrically-motivated constraints in the spatial filter design. The proposed approach is semi-blind since it needs as input an estimate of the source positions. We prove the effectiveness of the proposed solution through simulations using both white noise and speech signals
