The following paper presents five new Roman inscriptions discovered in situ in one of the enclosures in which the occidental porticus of the forum of the Roman city of Los Bañales (Uncastillo, Zaragoza) —conventus Caesaraugustanus of Hispania Citerior— was opened probably for cultural an self-representation purposes. The monument, of a dynastic and familiar character, was promoted by M. Fabius Nouus and Porcia Faventina and was articulated surrounding a main dedication to the Victoria Augusta and a series of crossed tributes to members of both families, with names that remain unattested in the local prosopography of the afore mentioned community whose ancient name is unknown to this day

On the subject of the identification of those ancient Vascones' civitates that we have informed about by the ancient sources, the hardest approach continues to be related with those cities for that we have only news in one of our literary sources: Ptolomeus, an author that have a lot of well-known internal problems in order of his right interpretation. One of those cities is Muskaria, that investigation -in a repeated and not as well documented way have looked for in Mosquera, between todays villages Tudela and Fontellas, both in Navarra. The following paper analyzes this traditional proposal and provides another new notice related with this controversy: the existence of Muskárria as a today local-name in Guesálaz's valley, also in Navarra

The aim of this paper is to present the conclusions of the sixth season of archaeological prospection along the territory of the ancient roman city of Los Bañales (Uncastillo, Zaragoza, Spain), supported by a researching plan leaded by Uncastillo Foundation. From the presentation of seven new archaeological sites –of rural type– and from a detailed review of the patterns followed by the rural settlement around the mentioned roman city between Augustan and Late Antiquity times, the paper also deals with the indication of what was the chronologial dynamic of the roman settlement in the area trying also to explain why some areas concentred too many evidences of ancient population and why some of them –particularly the probable uicus of El Zaticón de Biota and its sourroundings but also some sites on the left bank of the Arba river– remained far away from the main centres and seems to have been isolated from those

Characterization of the paracrine effects of human skeletal myoblasts transplanted in infarcted myocardium

The discrepancy between the functional improvements yielded experimentally by skeletal myoblasts (SM) transplanted in infarcted myocardium and the paucity of their long-term engraftment has raised the hypothesis of cell-mediated paracrine mechanisms. Methods and results: We analyzed gene expression and growth factors released by undifferentiated human SM (CD56+), myotubes (SM cultured until confluence) and fibroblasts-like cells (CD56−). Gene expression revealed up-regulation of pro-angiogenic (PGF), antiapoptotics (BAG-1, BCL-2), heart development (TNNT2, TNNC1) and extracellular matrix remodelling (MMP-2, MMP-7) genes in SM. In line with the gene expression profile, the analysis of culture supernatants of SM by ELISA identified the release of growth factors involved in angiogenesis (VEGF, PIGF, angiogenin, angiopoietin, HGF and PDGF-BB) as well as proteases involved in matrix remodelling (MMP2, MMP9 and MMP10) and their inhibitors (TIMPs). Culture of smooth muscle cells (SMC), cardiomyocytes (HL-1) and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) with SM-released conditioned media demonstrated an increased proliferation of HUVEC, SMC and cardiomyocytes (pb0.05) and a decrease in apoptosis of cardiomyocytes (pb0.05). Analysis of nude rats transplanted with human SM demonstrated expression of human-specific MMP-2, TNNI3, CNN3, PGF, TNNT2, PAX7, TGF-β, and IGF-1 1 month after transplant. Conclusions: Our data support the paracrine hypothesis whereby myoblast-secreted factors may contribute to the beneficial effects of myogenic cell transplantation in infarcted myocardium. © 2008 European Society of Cardiology. The following paper deals with the detailed and preliminary study of the archaeological site of Campo Real/Fillera (Sos del Rey Católico/Sangüesa, between today Zaragoza and Navarra provinces) specially focusing in its Roman period. The paper exposes a review of the archeological and epigraphical material from the site, proposes an urban condition for it and raises some hypothesis on its identification with one of the cities that ancient sources tribued to Vascones

C.The following paper presents part of the conclusions from the first year of archaeological work in the Researching Plan of Fundación Uncastillo in the Roman city of Los Bañales (Uncastillo, Zaragoza), in the East part of ancient Vascones' territory. We argue here the urban and municipal character of the settlement, come over on the functional comprehension of some of its singular buildings (temple and porticus space), present some new findings related with the situation of its burial area and, of course, try to give some new lights on the problem of the aqueduct line – also with new interesting evidences and fundings – and some reinterpretations on the plan of the well-known Roman baths of the city, specially developed between I and II century AD

Evolution of the use of corticosteroids for the treatment of hospitalised COVID-19 patients in Spain between March and November 2020: SEMI-COVID national registry

Objectives: Since the results of the RECOVERY trial, WHO recommendations about the use of corticosteroids (CTs) in COVID-19 have changed. The aim of the study is to analyse the evolutive use of CTs in Spain during the pandemic to assess the potential influence of new recommendations. Material and methods: A retrospective, descriptive, and observational study was conducted on adults hospitalised due to COVID-19 in Spain who were included in the SEMI-COVID- 19 Registry from March to November 2020. Results: CTs were used in 6053 (36.21%) of the included patients. The patients were older (mean (SD)) (69.6 (14.6) vs. 66.0 (16.8) years; p < 0.001), with hypertension (57.0% vs. 47.7%; p < 0.001), obesity (26.4% vs. 19.3%; p < 0.0001), and multimorbidity prevalence (20.6% vs. 16.1%; p < 0.001). These patients had higher values (mean (95% CI)) of C-reactive protein (CRP) (86 (32.7-160) vs. 49.3 (16-109) mg/dL; p < 0.001), ferritin (791 (393-1534) vs. 470 (236- 996) µg/dL; p < 0.001), D dimer (750 (430-1400) vs. 617 (345-1180) µg/dL; p < 0.001), and lower Sp02/Fi02 (266 (91.1) vs. 301 (101); p < 0.001). Since June 2020, there was an increment in the use of CTs (March vs. September; p < 0.001). Overall, 20% did not receive steroids, and 40% received less than 200 mg accumulated prednisone equivalent dose (APED). Severe patients are treated with higher doses. The mortality benefit was observed in patients with oxygen saturation </=90%. Conclusions: Patients with greater comorbidity, severity, and inflammatory markers were those treated with CTs. In severe patients, there is a trend towards the use of higher doses. The mortality benefit was observed in patients with oxygen saturation </=90%
