    Magnetic dipole moments near Sn-132: Measurement on isomeric 11/2(-) states in odd-A Te-131 and Te-133 by NMR/ON

    On-line low temperature nuclear orientation (OLNO) experiments have been performed on the odd-A Te isotopes 131Te and 133Te using the technique of nuclear magnetic resonance on oriented nuclei (NMR/ON). The magnetic moments of the isomeric 11/2- states have been measured extending the known data on these states in the Te isotopes up to the neutron shell closure at N = 82. The contribution to the 11/2- magnetic moment in 133Te due to core polarisation is calculated using an RPA shell model as well as corrections to the magnetic dipole operator caused by mesonic exchange currents. The neutron number dependence of the magnetic moments of the 11/2- isomers in heavy Te isotopes is discussed in terms of particle-core coupling model (PCM) calculations. © 1998 Elsevier Science B.V

    ''Bare'' single-particle energies in Ni-56

    Journals published by the American Physical Society can be found at http://publish.aps.org/The structure of the low-lying levels in the mirror nuclei Ni-57 and Cu-57 is described within the extended unified model. The problem of single-particle energies in Ni-56 is treated in detail. ''Bare'' single-particle energies are extracted from existing experimental data for the energy levels in Ni-57 and Cu-57 by carefully considering the influence of the coupling to excitations of the core. Important contributions arise, influencing especially the results on the spin-orbit splitting. The differences between the Coulomb energy shifts of various orbitals in Ni-56 are discussed and compared with those resulting from Hartree-Fock calculations carried out using a broad range of Skyrme interactions. The parameters of the Woods-Saxon potential reproducing these neutron ''bare'' single-particle energies and the charge root-mean-square radius of Ni-56 are extracted. It is demonstrated that the contributions associated with the Thomas-Ehrman effect and the electromagnetic spin-orbit interaction are important and large enough to account for the differences between the Coulomb energy shifts of the single-particle levels in Ni-56

    Positive Emotions in Children: Current Research and Future Directions

    Current studies indicate that positive emotions contribute to the development of social, affective, and cognitive resources that promote psychosocial well-being. However, most research has focused on adolescents and adults rather than children, although the basis for emotional development is established during childhood and affects the emergence of social and cognitive processes during this period. This chapter reviews Latin American studies that have examined how children's positive emotions are related to other variables as well as proposed models for assessing and fostering these emotions.
