    Get PDF
The use of effective and high-quality instructional feedback has been identified as a key element of quality teaching and learning. The is a major change in the provision of instructional feedback in higher education due to the rapid growth of internet strategy resulting in different forms of feedback modes provided by lecturers. Instructional feedback is generally provided in digital modes and non-digital modes through two various mediums known as text-based feedback comments (electronic annotations, marking sheet or rubric, handwritten) and verbal feedback comments (face-to-face and digitally recorded). These feedback modes are used to monitor student learning in response to instruction and provide prompts to students to confirm, refine, or clarify their understandings. Even though there is recognition of the significant role and value that feedback plays in student learning, very little is understood about how students perceive the feedback they receive on their work. So, this study aims to investigate students’ perceptions of the uses of digital and non-digital feedback modes in Kolej Poly-Tech MARA Alor Setar (KPTMAS). This study employed a quantitative approach through an online survey and the survey items adapted from Ryan, Henderson & and Phillips (2019). The population of the study consisted of Kolej Poly-Tech MARA Alor Setar students. Hopefully, these findings enhance our understanding of the students' preferences in the use of feedback modes in higher education. Henderson & Phillips (2019). There is a significant transformation for higher education to confront intense competition, enhance the academic program to meet the challenges of this competition and develop new teaching and learning strategies to fulfil the demand of the global marketplace. Furthermore, the rapid growth of internet-based innovations has resulted in changes in teaching approaches, and learning development manifested in different forms of e-learning. Even the traditional method such as tutorials and face-to-face tutorial lecturers are still strongly dominant, and higher education intensively invests in learning technologies to facilitate greater quality enhancements in students learning experiences. This study was conducted to explore the uses of the online learning system (OLeS) in the teaching and learning process among lecturers in Kolej Poly-Tech Mara Alor Setar. This study employed a  qualitative approach; semistructured interviews and online learning records. The population of study consisted of 41 lecturers and was conducted November in 2018. Thematic analysis was used for semi-structured interview data, whereas Descriptive Analysis was utilized to analyse the online learning records. Through the thematic analysis; three main themes were revealed such as management encouragement and support, lecturers’ positive attitudes toward the use of online learning and the benefits of online learning towards students. Overall, the result showed positive attitudes among lecturers toward the uses of online learning due to the management efforts and perceive usefulness. Hopefully, these findings enhance our understanding of the uses of online learning in higher education, indicating several issues to consider while implementing online learning in teaching and learning

TikTok, a video-sharing social media platform, has rapidly become one of the most popular social networking sites in recent years, with over 1 billion monthly active users, making it an effective and engaging tool for learning. With its easy-to-use interface, short-form videos, and viral content, TikTok provides an innovative way for educators to engage and educate students. This paper aims to investigate the usefulness of TikTok as an effective educational tool by creating a fun and interactive learning environment. TikTok is an ideal platform for effective and engaging learning for several reasons such as allows students to be creative and use their imagination to create unique, meaningful content for variety of subjects such as science, math, social studies, and language arts. Furthermore, TikTok encourages students to communicate and collaborate with their peers, which enhances their learning experience. Several studies have shown that TikTok can be a valuable learning tool, improving students' engagement, motivation, and overall learning experience. Despite its popularity, Tiktok use in education also raises concerns and challenges that need to be addressed by the scholars. Data were collected from KPTMAS students via an online survey, and findings reveal notable differences in TikTok usage and educational perceptions across various locations. Results suggest that while TikTok offers engaging and accessible learning content, it also presents challenges such as content regulation and potential distractions. Despite these challenges, the study highlights TikTok's growing role as an informal learning tool, particularly for younger, digitally adept generations. However, the platform’s educational use remains underexplored, warranting further investigation into its structured integration in academic environments

HIF1α drives chemokine factor pro-tumoral signaling pathways in acute myeloid leukemia

    Get PDF
Approximately 80% of patients diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) die as a consequence of failure to eradicate the tumor from the bone marrow microenvironment. We have recently shown that stroma-derived interleukin-8 (IL-8) promotes AML growth and survival in the bone marrow in response to AML-derived macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF). In the present study we show that high constitutive expression of MIF in AML blasts in the bone marrow is hypoxia-driven and, through knockdown of MIF, HIF1α and HIF2α, establish that hypoxia supports AML tumor proliferation through HIF1α signaling. In vivo targeting of leukemic cell HIF1α inhibits AML proliferation in the tumor microenvironment through transcriptional regulation of MIF, but inhibition of HIF2α had no measurable effect on AML blast survival. Functionally, targeted inhibition of MIF in vivo improves survival in models of AML. Here we present a mechanism linking HIF1α to a pro-tumoral chemokine factor signaling pathway and in doing so, we establish a potential strategy to target AML

LinkAja’s Sharia Service puts forward three main categories of sharia service products, namely the Zakat, Infaq, Alms and Waqf ecosystems, mosque-based economic empowerment and the digitization of Islamic boarding schools and micro small and medium enterprises. As most of the communities are Muslim, and as there are many religious institutions, Cirebon has become a target for the expansion of LinkAja's Sharia Services. This research used qualitative research methods, the data were collected by interviews, observation, documentation and then were analyzed by descriptive analysis method. The results of this study showed that transactions through LinkAja Sharia Services, especially in Cirebon City, must certainly applied the concept of sharia. The qardh contract is the longest in refilling LinkAja Syariah. LinkAja Syariah services use a qardh contract, namely LinkAja Syariah customers provided by LinkAja Syariah, in this case it is called a top-up and LinkAja Syariah in which it does not use the money, it only saves and it can be returned to the customer at any time in the same form

    Get PDF
Patient safety, quality, and efficiency are global issues, therefore hospitals must be able to apply clinical pathways through clinical pathways as the main facilities and infrastructure, especially in services for increasingly acute drug addicts. This study aims to analyze the implementation of clinical pathways for drug rehabilitation program outcomes on 1) clinical quality, 2) cost, 3) readmission, 4) satisfaction, and 5) LOS, at RSJD Atma Husada Mahakam. This type of research uses cross-sectional with observational analytic, data collection through distributing questionnaires to 111 respondents, observation and literature study. The results showed that the clinical quality before and after the implementation of the clinical pathway had a significant effect, but the cost of treatment did not show any significance. There is a positive relationship between readmission and the implementation of clinical pathways, as well as addict satisfaction in the LOS rehabilitation room has a significant effect on treatment time and clinical pathways. A recommendation that the 5 (five) variables mentioned above, apart from being cost-effective, can improve the quality of drug rehabilitation services at RSJD Atma Husada Mahakam Samarinda, so it needs to be maintaine

The Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 became the globally dominant variant in early 2022. A sub-lineage of the Omicron variant (BA.2) was identified in England in January 2022. Here, we investigated hospitalisation and mortality risks of COVID-19 cases with the Omicron sub-lineage BA.2 (n = 258,875) compared to BA.1 (n = 984,337) in a large cohort study in England. We estimated the risk of hospital attendance, hospital admission or death using multivariable stratified proportional hazards regression models. After adjustment for confounders, BA.2 cases had lower or similar risks of death (HR = 0.80, 95% CI 0.71-0.90), hospital admission (HR = 0.88, 95% CI 0.83-0.94) and any hospital attendance (HR = 0.98, 95% CI 0.95-1.01). These findings that the risk of severe outcomes following infection with BA.2 SARS-CoV-2 was slightly lower or equivalent to the BA.1 sub-lineage can inform public health strategies in countries where BA.2 is spreading
