Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)This describes the cross-linking/co-polymerization reaction of chitosan ( CS), acrylic acid (AAc), and N, N'-methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) in the presence of citrate-covered-gamma-Fe(2)O(3) nanoparticules. A gelling process was verified by means of spectroscopic methods; Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and solid-state (13)C-CP/MAS nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The corresponding signals of the gelling process, in the (13)C NMR spectra, for the magnetic hydrogel were shifted to lower values due to embedding of the citrate-covered-gamma-Fe(2)O(3) nanoparticules. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirmed that the crystallinity of the magnetic hydrogel exhibited a different crystalline structure to that without magnetic properties. The Mossbauer and magnetization analysis revealed that the magnetic hydrogel displays a high lattice strain, due to bonded iron atom covalence and superparamagnetism. From scanning electronic microscope (SEM) micrographs, no separation phase coexists between the magnetic nanoparticules and cross-linked hydrogel, indicating an excellent dispersion throughout the hydrogel. The swelling rate was dependent on the cross-linking degree of the hydrogel and ionic strength of the aqueous solution. (c) 2009 Elsevier B.V. Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)This study reports results on the miscibility of polymer blends based on PEO and different starches (unmodified, cationic, and hydrophobic) and their respective cytotoxicity. Films of PEO/starch blends at different weight ratios (95/05, 90/10, 80/20, 70/30, 65/35, and 60/40), as well as films of pure PEO as control, were prepared by casting methodology. Several techniques, such as SEM, WAXS, FTIR, and FT-Raman spectroscopy were used in this study for evaluating blend miscibility. The results revealed that the miscibility of such blends is dependent on the type of starch used. Regarding the PEO/unmodified starch blends, it was concluded that the system is miscible in the ratio range from 90/10 to 65/35. Although the PEO/hydrophobic starch blends are miscible in all the studied range, blends of PEO and cationic starch are immiscible, regardless the blend ratio. The different samples presented distinct cytotoxic behaviors. PEO and hydrophobic starch presented no relevant toxicity (CC(50/72)>2.5 mg/mL). Otherwise, the cationic starch was the most harmful for the cells. The blends presented cytotoxicity values between those of PEO and cationic starch. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. OBJECTIVE: understand the nursing team role along with the Psychosocial Attention Center multidisciplinary team. The participants were two Registered Nurses and three Auxiliary Nurses. The data was collected by a semi-structured interview and organized in thematic categories: The Psychosocial Attention Center Assistance Specificities and The Nursing Team Role at the Psychosocial Attention Center. The Nursing professionals recognize that CAPS represents a quality improvement in mental health assistance considering a humanized treatment and resocialization possibilities, as opposed to the hospital-centric model. However, it is necessary to consider there is some confusion in relation to the professional role as a multiprofessional team for this service
