Induced Polyakov supergravity on Riemann surfaces of higher genus
An effective action is obtained for the , induced supergravity on a
compact super Riemann surface (without boundary) of genus ,
as the general solution of the corresponding superconformal Ward identity. This
is accomplished by defining a new super integration theory on
which includes a new formulation of the super Stokes theorem and residue
calculus in the superfield formalism. Another crucial ingredient is the notion
of polydromic fields. The resulting action is shown to be well-defined and free
of singularities on \sig. As a by-product, we point out a morphism between
the diffeomorphism symmetry and holomorphic properties.Comment: LPTB 93-10, Latex file 20 page
The Polyakov action on the supertorus
A consistent method for obtaining a well-defined Polyakov action on the
supertorus is presented. This method uses the covariantization of derivative
operators and enables us to construct a Polyakov action which is globally

W-algebras from symplectomorphisms
It is shown how -algebras emerge from very peculiar canonical
transformations with respect to the canonical symplectic structure on a compact
Riemann surface. The action of smooth diffeomorphisms of the cotangent bundle
on suitable generating functions is written in the BRS framework while a
-symmetry is exhibited. Subsequently, the complex structure of the symmetry
spaces is studied and the related BRS properties are discussed. The specific
example of the so-called -algebra is treated in relation to some other

Supersymmetric structure of the induced W gravities
We derive the supersymmetric structure present in W-gravities which has been
already observed in various contexts as Yang-Mills theory, topological field
theories, bosonic string and chiral W_{3}-gravity. This derivation which is
made in the geometrical framework of Zucchini, necessitates the introduction of
an appropriate new basis of variables which replace the canonical fields and
their derivatives. This construction is used, in the W_{2}-case, to deduce from

Recent experience in the fabrication and brazing of ceramic beam tubes for kicker magnets at FNAL
Ceramic beam tubes are utilized in numerous kicker magnets in different accelerator rings at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. Kovar flanges are brazed onto each beam tube end, since kovar and high alumina ceramic have similar expansion curves. The tube, kovar flange, end piece, and braze foil (titanium/incusil) alloy brazing material are stacked in the furnace and then brazed in the furnace at 1000 C. The ceramic specified is 99.8% Alumina, Al{sub 2}O{sub 3}, a strong recrystallized high-alumina fabricated by slip casting. Recent experience at Fermilab with the fabrication and brazing of these tubes has brought to light numerous problems including tube breakage and cracking and also the difficulty of brazing the tube to produce a leak-tight joint. These problems may be due to the ceramic quality, voids in the ceramic, thinness of the wall, and micro-cracks in the ends which make it difficult to braze because it cannot fill tiny surface cracks which are caused by grain pullout during the cutting process. Solutions which are being investigated include lapping the ends of the tubes before brazing to eliminate the micro-cracks and also metallization of the tubes
Reproducibility of bone mineral density measurement in daily practice.
BACKGROUND: Bone mineral density (BMD) measurements are frequently performed repeatedly for each patient. Subsequent BMD measurements allow reproducibility to be assessed. OBJECTIVE: To examine the reproducibility of BMD by dual energy x ray absorptiometry (DXA) and to investigate the practical value of different measures of reproducibility in a group of postmenopausal women. METHODS: Ninety five women, mean age 59.9 years, underwent two subsequent BMD measurements of spine and hip. Reproducibility was expressed as smallest detectable difference (SDD), coefficient of variation (CV), and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Sources of variation were investigated by multilevel analysis. RESULTS: The median interval between measurements was 0 days (range 0-45). The mean difference (SD) between the measurements (g/cm(2)) was -0.001 (0.02) and -0.0004 (0.02) at L1-4 and the total hip, respectively. At L1-4 and the total hip, SDD (g/cm(2)) was +/-0.05 and +/-0.04 and CV (%) was 1.92 and 1.59, respectively. The ICC at spine and hip was 0.99. CONCLUSIONS: Reproducibility in the postmenopausal women studied was good. In a repeated DXA scan a BMD change exceeding 2 radical 2CV (%), the least significant change (LSC), or the SDD should be regarded as significant. Use of the SDD is preferable to use of the CV and LSC (%) because of its independence from BMD and its expression in absolute units. Expressed as SDD, a BMD change of at least +/-0.05 g/cm(2) at L1-4 and +/-0.04 g/cm(2) at the total hip should be considered significant
Search for Flavoured Multiquarks in a Simple Bag Model
We use a bag model to study flavoured mesonic and baryonic
states, where one heavy quark is associated with
light quarks or antiquarks, and search for possible stable multiquarks. No
bound state is found. However some states lie not too high above their
dissociation threshold, suggesting the possibility of resonances, or perhaps
