Josephson dynamics for coupled polariton modes under the atom-field interaction in the cavity

We consider a new approach to the problem of Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) of polaritons for atom-field interaction under the strong coupling regime in the cavity. We investigate the dynamics of two macroscopically populated polariton modes corresponding to the upper and lower branch energy states coupled via Kerr-like nonlinearity of atomic medium. We found out the dispersion relations for new type of collective excitations in the system under consideration. Various temporal regimes like linear (nonlinear) Josephson transition and/or Rabi oscillations, macroscopic quantum self-trapping (MQST) dynamics for population imbalance of polariton modes are predicted. We also examine the switching properties for time-averaged population imbalance depending on initial conditions, effective nonlinear parameter of atomic medium and kinetic energy of low-branch polaritons.Comment: 10 pages, 6 postscript figures, uses svjour.cl

    Stokes-operator-squeezed continuous-variable polarization states

    Get PDF
We investigate nonclassical Stokes-operator variances in continuous-wave polarization-squeezed laser light generated from one and two optical parametric amplifiers. A general expression of how Stokes-operator variances decompose into two-mode quadrature operator variances is given. Stokes parameter variance spectra for four different polarization-squeezed states have been measured and compared with a coherent state. Our measurement results are visualized by three-dimensional Stokes-operator noise volumes mapped on the quantum Poincare sphere. We quantitatively compare the channel capacity of the different continuous-variable polarization states for communication protocols. It is shown that squeezed polarization states provide 33% higher channel capacities than the optimum coherent beam protocol

High temperature BEC with photon-like atomic polaritons

We consider the problem of high temperature (room and beyond) true Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) of trapped ideal 1D gas of low branch (LB) atomic polaritons for the system of two-level atomic ensemble interacting with a quantized single-mode electromagnetic field in the presence of optical collisions (OC) with buffer gas atoms. We discuss the application of biconical waveguide cavity (BWC) for observing predicted effects

Polariton dispersion dependence on concentration of admixture in imperfect superlattice of coupled microresonators

Based on the representations of the ideal of photonic structures, the non-ideal systems of this class - polaritonic crystal, which is a set of spatially ordered cavities containing atomic clusters, is considered in the paper. Moreover, the spatial distribution of cavities (resonators) is translation invariant, and the atomic subsystem has randomly distributed defects: impurity atomic clusters (quantum dots) or a vacancies. Numerical modeling of dependence of the dispersion of polaritons in this imperfect superlattice of associated microresonators on impurity concentration is completed. Using the virtual crystal approximation the analytical expressions for polaritonic frequencies, effective mass and group velocities, as a function of corresponding quantum dots and vacancies concentrations, is obtained
