ExoMol molecular line lists - XVI: The rotation-vibration spectrum of hot H2_2S

    Get PDF
This work presents the AYT2 line list: a comprehensive list of 114 million 1^{1}H2_232^{32}S vibration-rotation transitions computed using an empirically-adjusted potential energy surface and an {\it ab initio} dipole moment surface. The line list gives complete coverage up to 11000 \cm\ (wavelengths longer than 0.91 μ\mum) for temperatures up to 2000 K. Room temperature spectra can be simulated up to 20000 \cm\ (0.5 μ\mum) but the predictions at visible wavelengths are less reliable. AYT2 is made available in electronic form as supplementary data to this article and at \url{www.exomol.com}.Comment: 12 pages, 10 figures, 10 table

Physical optics modeling of 2D dielectric lenses

Cataloged from PDF version of article. We propose an advanced physical optics formulation for the accurate modeling of dielectric lenses used in quasi-optical systems of millimeter, submillimeter, and infrared wave applications. For comparison, we obtain an exact full-wave solution of a two-dimensional lens problem and use it as a benchmark for testing and validation of asymptotic models being considered. © 2009 Optical Society of Americ

Flux Penetration in Superconducting Strip with Edge-Indentation

The flux penetration near a semicircular indentation at the edge of a thin superconducting strip placed in a transverse magnetic field is investigated. The flux front distortion due to the indentation is calculated numerically by solving the Maxwell equations with a highly nonlinear E(j)E(j) law. We find that the excess penetration, Δ\Delta, can be significantly (\sim 50%) larger than the indentation radius r0r_0, in contrast to a bulk supercondutor in the critical state where Δ=r0\Delta=r_0. It is also shown that the flux creep tends to smoothen the flux front, i.e. reduce Δ\Delta. The results are in very good agreement with magneto-optical studies of flux penetration into an YBa2_2Cu3_3Ox_x film having an edge defect.Comment: 5 pages, 7 figure

Complex source radiation in a cylindrical radome of metal-dielectric grating

    Get PDF
Cataloged from PDF version of article. The radiation fields of a line source enclosed in a circular dielectric radome with grating consisting of an array of thin lossy metal strips are analyzed. The variations of the directivity of the source beam with respect to the beam direction are studied. The possibility of damping these variations by an appropriate design of the radome is demonstrated

Numerical optimization of a cylindrical reflector-in-radome antenna system

    Get PDF
Cataloged from PDF version of article.Accurate numerical optimization based on the rigorous solution of the integral equation using the method of analytical regularization is performed for the cylindrical reflector antenna in a dielectric radome. It is shown that the multiple scattering in this system is more significant for the optimum radome design than any nonplane-wave effects or the curvature of the radome. We claim that, although the common half-wavelength design is a good approximation to avoid negative effects of the radome (such as the loss of the antenna directivity), one can, by carefully playing with the radome thickness, its radius, reflector location, and the position of the feed, improve the reflector-inradome antenna performance (e.g., increase the directivity) with respect to the same reflector in free-space

Enhanced sensitivity to a possible variation of the proton-to-electron mass ratio in ammonia

    Get PDF
Numerous accidental near degeneracies exist between the 2ν2 and ν4 rotation-vibration energy levels of ammonia. Transitions between these two states possess significantly enhanced sensitivity to a possible variation of the proton-to-electron mass ratio μ. Using a robust variational approach to determine the mass sensitivity of the energy levels along with accurate experimental values for the energies, sensitivity coefficients have been calculated for over 350 microwave, submillimeter, and far-infrared transitions up to J=15 for 14NH3. The sensitivities are the largest found in ammonia to date. One particular transition, although extremely weak, has a sensitivity of T=−16738 and illustrates the huge enhancement that can occur between close-lying energy levels. More promising however are a set of previously measured transitions with T=−32 to 28. Given the astrophysical importance of ammonia, the sensitivities presented here confirm that 14NH3 can be used exclusively to constrain a spatial or temporal variation of μ. Thus certain systematic errors which affect the ammonia method can be eliminated. For all transitions analyzed we provide frequency data and Einstein A coefficients to guide future laboratory and astronomical observations

Practical thermodynamics of Yukawa systems at strong coupling

    Get PDF
Simple practical approach to estimate thermodynamic properties of strongly coupled Yukawa systems, in both fluid and solid phases, is presented. The accuracy of the approach is tested by extensive comparison with direct computer simulation results (for fluids and solids) and the recently proposed shortest-graph method (for solids). Possible applications to other systems of softly repulsive particles are briefly discussed.Comment: Published in J. Chem. Phy

Recommendations for strengthening the brake construction in accident dangerous areas of fatigue destruction were developed. Computer modeling was made using the ANSYS program that helps to visualize stained condition of the construction for further practical testing of the strength and reliability improving technology of mining elevating machines' constructions, which are being in a long-term use, with a help of the strengthening elements. A way of construction strengthening, which eliminates the possibility of further fatigue destruction of the brake system elements, because of the load cycle in exploitation process
