Ground State of the Hydrogen Atom via Dirac Equation in a Minimal Length Scenario
In this work we calculate the correction to the ground state energy of the
hydrogen atom due to contributions arising from the presence of a minimal
length. The minimal length scenario is introduced by means of modifying the
Dirac equation through a deformed Heisenberg algebra (kempf algebra). With the
introduction of the Coulomb potential in the new Dirac energy operator, we
calculate the energy shift of the ground state of the hydrogen atom in first
order of the parameter related to the minimal length via perturbation theory.Comment: 11 page
Geometric structures on loop and path spaces
Is is known that the loop space associated to a Riemannian manifold admits a
quasi-symplectic structure. This article shows that this structure is not
likely to recover the underlying Riemannian metric by proving a result that is
a strong indication of the "almost" independence of the quasi-symplectic
structure with respect to the metric. Finally conditions to have contact

Nanogel formation of polymer solutions flowing through porous media
A gelation process was seen to occur when Boger fluids made from aqueous solutions of polyacrylamide (PAA) and NaCl flowed through porous media with certain characteristics. As these viscoelastic fluids flow through a porous medium, the pressure drop across the bed varies linearly with the flow rate, as also happens with Newtonian fluids. Above a critical flow rate, elastic effects set in and the pressure drop grows above the low-flow-rate linear regime. Increasing further the flow rate, a more dramatic increase in the slope of the pressure drop curve can be observed as a consequence of nanogel formation. In this work, we discuss the reasons for this gelation process based on our measurements using porous media of different sizes, porosity and chemical composition. Additionally, the rheological properties of the fluids were investigated for shear and extensional flows. The fluids were also tested as they flowed through different microfluidic analogues of the porous media. The results indicate that the nanogel inception occurs with the adsorption of PAA molecules on the surface of the porous media particles that contain silica on their surfaces. Subsequently, if the interparticle space is small enough a jamming process occurs leading to flow-induced gel formation
Detailed theoretical predictions of the outskirts of dark matter halos
In the present work we describe the formalism necessary to derive the
properties of dark matter halos beyond two virial radius using the spherical
collapse model (without shell crossing), and provide the framework for the
theoretical prediction presented in Prada et al. (2005). We show in detail how
to obtain within this model the probability distribution for the
spherically-averaged enclosed density at any radii P(delta,r). Using this
probability distribution, we compute the most probable and mean density
profiles, which turns out to differ considerably from each other. We also show
how to obtain the typical profile, as well as the probability distribution and
mean profile for the spherically averaged radial velocity. Two probability
distributions are obtained: a first one is derived using a simple assumption,
that is, if Q is the virial radius in Lagrangian coordinates, then the enclosed
linear contrast delta_l(q,Q) must satisfy the condition that delta_l(q=Q) =
delta_vir, where delta_vir is the linear density contrast within the virial
radius Rvir at the moment of virialization. Then we introduce an additional
constraint to obtain a more accurate P(delta,r) which reproduces to a higher
degree of precision the distribution of the spherically averaged enclosed
density found in the simulations. This new constraint is delta_l(q,Q) <
delta_vir for all q > Q, which means that there are no radii larger than Rvir
where the density contrast is larger than that used to define the virial
radius. Finally, we compare in detail our theoretical predictions for the

Fit to the Bjorken, Ellis-Jaffe and Gross-Llewellyn-Smith sum rules in a renormalon based approach
We study the large order behaviour in perturbation theory of the Bjorken,
Ellis-Jaffe and Gross-Llewellyn-Smith sum rules. In particular, we consider
their first infrared renormalons, for which we obtain their analytic structure
with logarithmic accuracy and also an approximate determination of their
normalization constant. Estimates of higher order terms of the perturbative
series are given. The Renormalon subtracted scheme is worked out for these
observables and compared with experimental data. Overall, good agreement with
experiment is found. This allows us to obtain {\hat a}_0 and some higher-twist
non-perturbative constants from experiment: {\hat a}_0=0.141\pm 0.089;
f_{3,RS}(1 GeV)=-0.124^{+0.137}_{-0.142} GeV^2.Comment: 23 pages, 18 figures, one reference added, journal versio
On the monitoring of surface displacement in connection with volcano reactivation in Tenerife, Canary Islands, using space techniques
Geodetic volcano monitoring in Tenerife has mainly focused on the Las Cañadas Caldera, where a geodetic micronetwork and a levelling profile are located. A sensitivity test of this geodetic network showed that it should be extended to cover the whole island for volcano monitoring purposes. Furthermore, InSAR allowed detecting two unexpected movements that were beyond the scope of the traditional geodetic network. These two facts prompted us to design and observe a GPS network covering the whole of Tenerife that was monitored in August 2000. The results obtained were accurate to one centimetre, and confirm one of the deformations, although they were not definitive enough to confirm the second one. Furthermore, new cases of possible subsidence have been detected in areas where InSAR could not be used to measure deformation due to low coherence. A first modelling attempt has been made using a very simple model and its results seem to indicate that the deformation observed and the groundwater level variation in the island may be related. Future observations will be necessary for further validation and to study the time evolution of the displacements, carry out interpretation work using different types of data (gravity, gases, etc) and develop models that represent the island more closely. The results obtained are important because they might affect the geodetic volcano monitoring on the island, which will only be really useful if it is capable of distinguishing between displacements that might be linked to volcanic activity and those produced by other causes. One important result in this work is that a new geodetic monitoring system based on two complementary techniques, InSAR and GPS, has been set up on Tenerife island. This the first time that the whole surface of any of the volcanic Canary Islands has been covered with a single network for this purpose. This research has displayed the need for further similar studies in the Canary Islands, at least on the islands which pose a greater risk of volcanic reactivation, such as Lanzarote and La Palma, where InSAR techniques have been used already
