Steady Flow of Purely Viscous Shear-Thinning Fluids in a 1:3 Planar Gradual Expansion

Laminar flow of non-Newtonian fluid (shear-thinning) through a 1:3 planar gradual expansion is numerically investigated, for various Power-Law index (0.6, 0.8 and 1.0) and expansion angles (15, 30, 45, 60 and 90°) at different generalized Reynolds number (1 ≀ Reg ≀ 400). The study of these parameters effect on the flow pattern allowed the determination of the two critical generalized Reynolds numbers (Regcr1 and Regcr2), which correspond to the transition from the symmetric to the asymmetric flow and the appearance of the third recirculation zone respectively. The results showed that decreasing the Power-Law index or the expansion angle stabilizes the flow by increasing significantly the two critical generalized Reynolds numbers. In order to predict the two critical generalized Reynolds numbers, two correlations have been proposed

BACKGROUND: To describe the quality of life of adolescents initiating haemodialysis, to determine the factors associated with quality of life, and to assess coping strategies and their impact on quality of life. METHODS: All adolescents initiating haemodialysis between September 2013 and July 2015 in French paediatric haemodialysis centres were included. Quality of life data were collected using the "Vecu et Sante Percue de l'Adolescent et l'Enfant" questionnaire, and coping data were collected using the Kidcope questionnaire. Adolescent's quality of life was compared with age- and sex-matched French control. RESULTS: Thirty-two adolescents were included. Their mean age was 13.9 +/- 2.0 years. The quality of life score was lowest in leisure activities and highest in relationships with medical staff. Compared with the French control, index, energy-vitality, relationships with friends, leisure activities and physical well-being scores were significantly lower in haemodialysis population. In multivariate analyses, active coping was positively associated with quality of life and especially with energy-vitality, relationships with parents and teachers, and school performance. In contrast, avoidant and negative coping were negatively associated with energy-vitality, psychological well-being and body image for avoidant coping, and body image and relationships with medical staff for negative coping. CONCLUSIONS: The quality of life of haemodialysis adolescents, and mainly the dimensions of leisure activities, physical well-being, relationships with friends and energy-vitality, were significantly altered compared to that of the French population. The impact of coping strategies on quality of life seems to be important. Given the importance of quality of life and coping strategies in adolescents with chronic disease, health care professionals should integrate these aspects into care management

Revealing the Conceptual Schemas of RDF Datasets

    No full text
International audienceRDF-based datasets, thanks to their semantic richness, variety and fine granularity, are increasingly used by both researchers and business communities. However, these datasets suffer a lack of completeness as the content evolves continuously and data contributors are loosely constrained by the vocabularies and schemes related to the data sources. Conceptual schemas have long been recognized as a key mechanism for understanding and dealing with complex real-world systems. In the context of the Web of Data and user-generated content, the conceptual schema is implicit. In fact, each data contributor has an implicit personal model that is not known by the other contributors. Consequently, revealing a meaningful conceptual schema is a challenging task that should take into account the data and the intended usage. In this paper, we propose a completeness-based approach for revealing conceptual schemas of RDF data. We combine quality evaluation and data mining approaches to find a conceptual schema for a dataset, this model meets user expectations regarding data completeness constraints. To achieve that, we propose LOD-CM; a web-based completeness demonstrator for linked datasets
