THE PUTREFACTION OF DIGITAL SCHOLARSHIP: HOW LINK ROT IMPACTS THE INTEGRITY OF SCHOLARLY PUBLISHING

Research sits at the core of scholarship. The integrity of that research allows fields of study to grow and build upon one another to form the foundation for and extension of human knowledge. In the last 10 years, a new phenomenon has occurred as digital scholarship has become more prolific. This phenomenon is called link rot. Link rot occurs when over time, digital resources become inaccessible because their originally cited location has been relocated or become permanently unavailable. This study examined the extent to which link rot has affected scholarly research and how it might affect the future of digital scholarship. Historical archived data were compiled and analyzed using a self-created tool to evaluate the extent to which a publication has been affected by the phenomenon of link rot. Study data were accessed through content analysis of 2,500 published, peer-reviewed scholarly articles, representing a span of 10 years (2013– 2022) of data collection. Five specific academic domains in the scholarly literature were identified for study purposes: (a) arts and humanities; (b) business; (c) health and medicine; (d) science, math, and technologies; and (e) social sciences. The study showed that 36% of all links were broken, and 37% of digital object identifiers were broken. The study also showed a significant difference in the percentage of broken links between academic disciplines, as well as the percentage of broken digital object identifier links

Tuning phase-stability and short-range order through Al-doping in (CoCrFeMn)100-xAlx high entropy alloys

For (CoCrFeMn)100−x_{100-x}Alx_{x} high-entropy alloys, we investigate the phase evolution with increasing Al-content (0 ≤\le x ≤\le 20 at.%). From first-principles theory, the Al-doping drives the alloy structurally from FCC to BCC separated by a narrow two-phase region (FCC+BCC), which is well supported by our experiments. We highlight the effect of Al-doping on the formation enthalpy and electronic structure of (CoCrFeMn)100−x_{100-x}Alx_{x} alloys. As chemical short-range order (SRO) in multicomponent alloys indicates the nascent local order (and entropy changes), as well as expected low-temperature ordering behavior, we use thermodynamic linear-response within density-functional theory to predict SRO and ordering transformation and temperatures inherent in (CoCrFeMn)100−x_{100-x}Alx_{x}. The predictions agree with our present experimental findings, and other reported ones.Comment: 27 pages, 9 figures, 1 tabl

: Diabetes mellitus is one of the chronic disease occurs in millions of people in the world (American Diabetes Association). Non-compliance of patients with diabetes mellitus taking medication due to lack of knowledge. Looking at the above problems, the researchers looked at the need to conduct research. The study design will use a cross-sectional study research was done dipoliklinik endocrine Hospital. Prof. Dr R. D. Kandou Manado. The research was conducted in October to November 2014. The population in this study were patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus dipolyclinik endocrine outpatient hospital. Prof. Dr RD Kandou Manado January-June amounted to 120 patients. Sampling technique in this research is purposive sampling a number of 58 respondents. Bersadarkan test results of the chi-square statistic was obtained p = 0.001. this shows niali p is not greater than α (0.05) and thus it can be concluded that there is a relationship of knowledge with medication adherence in diabetes mellitus type 2 Poly Endocrine RSUP.Prof. Dr R.D.Kandou Manado

Gene flow and population structure of a solitary top carnivore in a human-dominated landscape.

While African leopard populations are considered to be continuous as demonstrated by their high genetic variation, the southernmost leopard population exists in the Eastern and Western Cape, South Africa, where anthropogenic activities may be affecting this population's structure. Little is known about the elusive, last free-roaming top predator in the region and this study is the first to report on leopard population structuring using nuclear DNA. By analyzing 14 microsatellite markers from 40 leopard tissue samples, we aimed to understand the populations' structure, genetic distance, and gene flow (Nm). Our results, based on spatially explicit analysis with Bayesian methods, indicate that leopards in the region exist in a fragmented population structure with lower than expected genetic diversity. Three population groups were identified, between which low to moderate levels of gene flow were observed (Nm 0.5 to 3.6). One subpopulation exhibited low genetic differentiation, suggesting a continuous population structure, while the remaining two appear to be less connected, with low emigration and immigration between these populations. Therefore, genetic barriers are present between the subpopulations, and while leopards in the study region may function as a metapopulation, anthropogenic activities threaten to decrease habitat and movement further. Our results indicate that the leopard population may become isolated within a few generations and suggest that management actions should aim to increase habitat connectivity and reduce human-carnivore conflict. Understanding genetic diversity and connectivity of populations has important conservation implications that can highlight management of priority populations to reverse the effects of human-caused extinctions

Adolescent HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Prescribing Practices Among Family Medicine Physicians: Limited Immediate Uptake

Introduction: In the United States, individuals aged 13-24 made up 21% of new HIV infections in 2016. In 2018, the FDA approved tenofovir/emtricitabine as HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for adolescents aged 15-17. In 2019, we examined adolescent PrEP prescribing practices among family medicine physicians at an academic family medicine practice. Methods: Physicians were invited to complete an online questionnaire assessing PrEP knowledge, attitudes, and prescribing practices. Differences in PrEP knowledge and attitudes among providers who prescribe PrEP to adolescents versus those who do not were examined using independent samples t-tests. Results: 50 out of 99 surveys were completed. Respondents were 90% White, 84% heterosexual, 50% attendings, 50% residents/fellows, and 2% HIV specialists. All respondents had heard of PrEP before the survey, 76% had prescribed PrEP and 70% reported being aware of the FDA approval of PrEP for adolescents. While 86% reported treating patients aged 15-17, only 6% reported having prescribed PrEP to this demographic. Physicians who reported prescribing PrEP to adolescents reported greater comfort assessing for indications for PrEP, t(48)= -2.23, p \u3c 0.05, greater PrEP knowledge, t(47)= -3.34, p \u3c 0.005, and felt PrEP was safer, t(48)= -2.09, p \u3c 0.05, compared to physicians who had not. Conclusion: Despite universal awareness of PrEP, high rates of prescribing to adults, and awareness of FDA approval of PrEP for adolescents, PrEP prescribing to adolescents in our sample remains limited. Differences between providers who have and have not prescribed PrEP to adolescents suggest targeted training may boost prescribing to this demographic
