    The news gap in the «triple digital agenda»: The different interests of media, audience and networks

    Digital transformations entail continually reviewing the various Communication models and processes. The influence of the media themselves as agenda setters for an ever more active audience and social networks that select and make certain content they receive viral are also affected by such a convergent context. This current research analyses a model called here the ‘triple agenda’ within the media themselves, in which the journalistic criterion of relevance and their audience’s preferences in the web and the networks travel along different paths. The proposal includes the users and the viral effect as influencing agents in the shape and selection of news, generating a news gap of interests between the media and their audiences. In order to test this model, we study an exploratory case in ElPaís.es, applying a content analysis to the information (n=420) distributed among the online front page, what is most read by the audience in its webpage, and the most viral in its Twitter account. The main objective is to check whether or not these three spheres of relevance operate independently, showing different informative interests f rom the thematic selection that the medium establishes f rom its agenda, its audience and its social networks. The results confirm that there is a gap in the informative interests of the three spheres analysed, especially between the agenda marked by the medium and the interests that are reflected in their web audience, which is more attracted to soft news and the clickbait technique; while there is a greater coincidence of interests between the newspaper’s front page and the users’ selection in their social networks.Las transformaciones digitales conllevan una revisión permanente de los modelos y procesos de la Comunicación. En este contexto convergente también se ve afectada la propia influencia de los medios como fijadores de la agenda frente a una audiencia cada vez más activa y unas redes sociales que seleccionan y viralizan el contenido que les llega. La presente investigación analiza un modelo denominado aquí de ‘triple agenda’ dentro de los propios medios, en los que discurren de manera diferente el criterio periodístico de relevancia y las preferencias de su audiencia en la web y las redes. La propuesta incluye a los usuarios y el efecto de la viralidad como actores influyentes en la conformación y selección noticiosa, generando una brecha, o news gap, de intereses informativos entre el medio y su audiencia. Para poner a prueba este modelo, se recurre a un estudio de caso exploratorio en ElPaís.es, aplicando un análisis de contenido de sus informaciones (n=420), distribuidas entre la portada online, lo más leído por la audiencia en su web y lo más viralizado en su Twitter. El objetivo principal es comprobar si estas tres esferas de relevancia temática operan, o no, de forma independiente, mostrando intereses informativos dispares entre la selección temática que establece el medio desde su agenda, de su audiencia y de las redes. Los resultados confirman una brecha en el interés informativo de las tres esferas analizadas, especialmente entre la agenda que marca el medio y los intereses que reflejan su audiencia web, más atraída por las soft news y las técnicas del clickbait, mientras que existe una mayor coincidencia de intereses entre la portada periodística y la selección de los usuarios en sus redes sociales

    Beyond global nodes and economic indicators in the evaluation of the world-system of cities

    The paper aims to look at the organisation of the world-urban system. It proposes an integrated explorative approach which, in addition to considering economic-production type indicators, includes others that can reflect a complex approach to functional and geographic specialisation. Methodologically, the comparative analysis of three synthetic indices through a cluster analysis allows for the multifunctional representation of the world-urban system, in which other centralities and cities excluded from other rankings are considered. The first index is taken from the proposal by the GaWC (Global and World Cities Research Network). The second relates to cultural services and some of the knowledgeintensive activities. The third includes variables related to mobility, more specifically air transport. The comparison of functions, as revealed by the indices, can provide information about how cities work in the world context. The analysis allows for the identification of a group of prominent multifunctional cities at the top, and a large group of less prominent and specialised cities underneath

A large number of immunoinformatics resources such as immune-related databases and analysis software are available through the World Wide Web for the benefit of the research community. However, immunoinformatics developments have sometimes remained isolated from mainstream bioinformatics. Therefore, there is clearly a need for integration, which will empower the exchange of data and annotations within the scientific community in a quick and efficient fashion.     In-hospital mortality among immunosuppressed patients with COVID-19: Analysis from a national cohort in Spain

    Background Whether immunosuppressed (IS) patients have a worse prognosis of COVID-19 compared to non-IS patients is not known. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical characteristics and outcome of IS patients hospitalized with COVID-19 compared to non-IS patients. Methods We designed a retrospective cohort study. We included all patients hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 from the SEMI-COVID-19 Registry, a large multicentre national cohort in Spain, from March 27th until June 19th, 2020. We used multivariable logistic regression to assess the adjusted odds ratios (aOR) of in-hospital death among IS compared to non-IS patients. Results Among 13 206 included patients, 2 111 (16.0%) were IS. A total of 166 (1.3%) patients had solid organ (SO) transplant, 1081 (8.2%) had SO neoplasia, 332 (2.5%) had hematologic neoplasia, and 570 (4.3%), 183 (1.4%) and 394 (3.0%) were receiving systemic steroids, biological treatments, and immunosuppressors, respectively. Compared to non-IS patients, the aOR (95% CI) for in-hospital death was 1.60 (1.43–1.79) for all IS patients, 1.39 (1.18–1.63) for patients with SO cancer, 2.31 (1.76–3.03) for patients with haematological cancer and 3.12 (2.23–4.36) for patients with SO transplant. The aOR (95% CI) for death for patients who were receiving systemic steroids, biological treatments and immunosuppressors compared to non-IS patients were 2.16 (1.80–2.61), 1.97 (1.33–2.91) and 2.06 (1.64–2.60), respectively. IS patients had a higher odds than non-IS patients of in-hospital acute respiratory distress syndrome, heart failure, myocarditis, thromboembolic disease and multiorgan failure. Conclusions IS patients hospitalized with COVID-19 have a higher odds of in-hospital complications and death compared to non-IS patients

    Componentes de la corteza del olmo y su posible influencia en la alimentación de los escolítidos

    In order to better understand the chemical factors involved in the host feeding selectivity by Scolytus, components were extracted from elm bark and studied. Sampled trees were located in an elm stand that survived the Dutch twig elm disease pandemia, and from elm clones from throughout the Iberian Peninsula. The main samples studied were from Ulmus minor, and the other samples from U. pumila, U. laevis and several hybrids. The main compounds in the extracts obtained from current-year twigs were aliphatic hydrocarbons (particularly heptacosane and nonacosane) and from 2- to 4-year-old stems were triterpenes. Three of the triterpenes were identified for the first time in Ulmus (lupenol, alnulin, and ilexol) and two in Ulmaceae (moretenol and betulin). Differences occurred in the compounds isolated from U. minor from the two locations, and between species.Se analizaron los componentes de la corteza de ramillas de olmos, a fin de determinar los factores químicos involucrados en la selección, por parte de los escolítidos del olmo (Scolytus), de árboles para su alimentación. Las muestras fueron recogidas en árboles de una olmeda que ha sobrevivido a la pandemia de grafiosis y de ejemplares de distintas procedencias de la península Ibérica en un banco clonal. La principal especie estudiada fue Ulmus minor. Se tomaron además muestras de U. pumila, U. laevis y diversos híbridos. Los compuestos más abundantes en los extractos obtenidos de ramillas del año en curso fueron hidrocarburos alifáticos (principalmente heptacosano y nonacosano) y en las ramillas de 2º a 4º año triterpenos pentacíclicos. Tres de los triterpenos (lupenol, alnulina e ilexol) fueron identificados por primera vez en Ulmus y dos (moretenol y betulina) en Ulmaceae. Se observaron diferencias en los compuestos detectados en U. minor de las dos localizaciones así como entre especies

    Acute abdomen is a common and sometimes dramatic clinical condition, which can be fatal if diagnosis is not made in time. There are many etiologies for acute abdominal pain; therefore, the diagnostic approach should be based on clinical assessment, including laboratory and image studies. Neurofibromatosis 1 (NF1) is an autosomal dominant condition, characterized by cutaneous pigmentation and tumor formation along nerves in the brain, skin and other organs, the gastrointestinal stromal tumors are rare mesenchymal neoplasms associated with NF1. The close correlation between both pathologies is well known, and the clinical relevance relies on the different pathogenesis from sporadic gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), with important therapeutic implications as the use of imatinib prior or after surgery, regarding the individual context of the patient. The aim of this study was to analyze IPoC electrophysiological effects and the role played by adenosine A, A and A receptors, protein kinase C, ATP-dependent potassium (K) channels, and connexin 43. IPoC reduced reperfusion arrhythmias (mainly sustained ventricular fibrillation) in isolated rat hearts, an effect associated with a transient delay in epicardial electrical activation, and with action potential shortening. Electrical impedance measurements and Lucifer-Yellow diffusion assays agreed with such activation delay. However, this delay persisted during IPoC in isolated mouse hearts in which connexin 43 was replaced by connexin 32 and in mice with conditional deletion of connexin 43. Adenosine A, A and A receptor blockade antagonized the antiarrhythmic effect of IPoC and the associated action potential shortening, whereas exogenous adenosine reduced reperfusion arrhythmias and shortened action potential duration. Protein kinase C inhibition by chelerythrine abolished the protective effect of IPoC but did not modify the effects on action potential duration. On the other hand, glibenclamide, a K inhibitor, antagonized the action potential shortening but did not interfere with the antiarrhythmic effect. The antiarrhythmic mechanisms of IPoC involve adenosine receptor activation and are associated with action potential shortening. However, this action potential shortening is not essential for protection, as it persisted during protein kinase C inhibition, a maneuver that abolished IPoC protection. Furthermore, glibenclamide induced the opposite effects. In addition, IPoC delays electrical activation and electrical impedance recovery during reperfusion, but these effects are independent of connexin 43

    New palynological data in Muschelkalk facies of the Catalan Coastal Ranges (NE of the Iberian Peninsula)

    The Middle Triassic (Ladinian) deposits of the Catalan Basin (Spain) are essentially represented by extensive marine carbonate platforms developed in a rift tectonic setting. During the Ladinian, a regional sea-level drop led to a significant paleogeographic reorganisation of the depocentres of eastern Iberia producing a relevant shift in the distribution of the sedimentary environments. To better calibrate the age of the correlative conformity and the associated depositional facies, a new palynological study was carried out in two localities in Tarragona province (Spain). The palynological assemblages suggest a Longobardian–Cordevolian age (Middle–Late Triassic transition) for the materials deposited below and above the correlative conformity. This study allows a refined biostratigraphic and sedimentary correlation between the carbonate sediments in the Catalan Basin and those in the Iberian Ranges and adjacent basins of the Tethys region
