"Curriculum development" has recently been an issue at academic debates of increasing significance, particularly at higher maritime education and training. Curricula are the basic means through which goals and objectives are set. If the learners are to be well-equipped with such skills as reasoning, critical thinking, problem solving, information processing, independent working, and life long learning, curricula are to be developed accordingly. The objectives set are expected to develop and sustain the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains, providing learners with high intellectual abilities, desired attitudes, and well coordinated physical talents all of which could be practiced in real-life problem-solving. The purpose of this study is to analyze the instructions and/or questions that follow each part of the scenarios practiced at the problem-based discussion sessions at Dokuz Eylul University, School of Maritime Business and Management. The thorough analysis is expected to reveal to what extent the nature of the instructions / questions help improve each of the basic domains mentioned. Based on the specific findings, certain remedies will be offered to raise the favorable effectiveness. The study consists of five parts. The first part is devoted to a thorough discussion on the importance of setting goals and objectives while forming curricula. The focus of the second part is on setting goals and objectives. The third part discusses the levels of cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains including proper examples for action verbs and expressions describing the objectives at each level. The fourth part covers the analysis of the questions / instructions used in the scenarios accompanying an overall assessment. The fifth part comprises conclusions, discussions, and recommendations.29-Mar-0

Many improvements are performed in the maritime industry to ensure sustainability and energy efficiency. The use of hybrid propulsion systems (HPS) in marine vessels constitutes one of the developments in this field. In this study, both economic and environmental benefits are targeted. The study aims to reduce the high fuel consumption of the engine per unit power at low loads and minimization of emissions by sourcing them from main engine by HPS. Overcoming the limitations of Annex VI (Prevention of Air Pollution from Ships) of International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) are desired and the research hopes for a beneficial result on Energy Efficiency Measures such as Energy Efficiency Operational Indicator (EEOI). A comprehensive study is accomplished on the hybrid propulsion system components and the keywords used in the literature review are revealed. Furthermore, the articles that have “efficiency”, “vessel”, “propulsion” and “marine” topics published in Web of Science (WOS) between 1975-2020 are examined and 44 studies are obtained. The studies that have been reached are analyzed and interests of them are collect under the 18 heading and the focal point of each study is highlighted in article. According to the results, the hybrid system provides low fuel consumption, minimizes emissions and  costs, complies with the regulations of the International Maritime Organization, uses renewable energy sources, encourages the use of electric motors in addition to internal combustion engines, increases the efficiency of energy storage systems among other things. This article will be a significant resource for academicians, experts and companies on the Hybrid propulsion system in setting their focus.   Keywords: Hybrid propulsion, Energy saving, Global warming.</jats:p

Research and development activities are being carried out around the world in order to reduce the energy consumption of the vehicles used in the maritime industry while operating the maritime transport systems. By taking into consideration the International Maritime Organization's (MARPOL Annex VI) "Regulations for the Prevention of Air Pollution Arising from Ships", it is more important to obtain energy savings and low emission values in marine vessels. Concordantly, efforts are being made to contribute to technological developments in main engines, shipbuilding and propulsion systems in order to achieve energy recovery in marine transportation systems. The Energy Efficiency Design Index created by IMO is one of the most important parameters for newly built vessels and aims to encourage the use of more energy saving and less emissions equipment and ship machinery. In this study, fuel consumption, total operation times, type of fuel used and analysis values of fuel of tugboats during towage service were obtained. Improvements in the main engine system that exist in tugboats are theoretically examined and their effects on the system are shown. By using alternative fuels instead of the fuel used during the operation, positive and negative results that can be occured in the system have been expressed
