Bose-Einstein Final State Symmetrization for Event Generators of Heavy Ion Collisions
We discuss algorithms which allow to calculate identical two-particle
correlations from numerical simulations of relativistic heavy ion collisions. A

Enrich: improving integration between an institutional repository and a CRIS at the University of Glasgow
This paper provide details of the work and the lessons learned by the JISC funded Enrich project run by the
University of Glasgow in the United Kingdom. Enrich provided a clear focus for the integration and enhancement
of the University of Glasgowâs repository, Enlighten, with other institutional systems, including
our Research System [CRIS] (for funder data) and our Data Vault (for staff records). The Enrich project has
demonstrated that partnership between the University Library and the Research Office, in conjunction with
researchers, administrators and IT Services is critical to ensuring the successful integration of a repository
and a CRIS.
Enrich is part of a wider JISC funded programme in the UK: âInformation Environment 2009-11â which
focuses on the management, discovery and use of information resources. It was completed at the end of
March 2010
Decay-assisted collinear resonance ionization spectroscopy: Application to neutron-deficient francium
This paper reports on the hyperfine-structure and radioactive-decay studies
of the neutron-deficient francium isotopes Fr performed with the
Collinear Resonance Ionization Spectroscopy (CRIS) experiment at the ISOLDE
facility, CERN. The high resolution innate to collinear laser spectroscopy is
combined with the high efficiency of ion detection to provide a
highly-sensitive technique to probe the hyperfine structure of exotic isotopes.
The technique of decay-assisted laser spectroscopy is presented, whereby the
isomeric ion beam is deflected to a decay spectroscopy station for alpha-decay
tagging of the hyperfine components. Here, we present the first
hyperfine-structure measurements of the neutron-deficient francium isotopes
Fr, in addition to the identification of the low-lying states of
Fr performed at the CRIS experiment.Comment: Accepted for publication with Physical Review
CERIF â Is the standard helping to improve CRIS?
Governments and organizations are creating Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) to follow the growth of the amount of research data, providing tools to collect, preserve and disseminate that data. At the same time, we are facing the appearance of standards designed to regulate CRIS development. Common European Research Information Format (CERIF) is a standard for managing and exchanging research data. There are several types of CRIS â institutional, regional, national and international. In this work we have just considered the national and international types of CRIS worldwide. Only seven of them were CERIF compliant. The aim of this study is to conclude if the use of CERIF is increasing the number of features in CRIS and how deep CERIF-compliant CRIS are adopting CERIF. Applying all the criteria considered in our methodology, only ten CRIS were analyzed, four of which are CERIF-compliant. CERIF tends to increase similarities between CRIS, in terms of its features and its data models. However, the need for customization of such systems leads to various implementations of the standard, creating an opposite effect of the one referred before. CRIS non CERIF compliant have as central focus the researchers. The CERIF takes CRIS to focus also on projects and institutions of the research domain. With this exception, the CERIF doesnât show an increase of the number of features. We also consider the use of Dublin Core to increase interoperability between CRIS

Beyond the RCT: Integrating Rigor and Relevance to Evaluate the Outcomes of Domestic Violence Programs
Programs for domestic violence (DV) victims and their families have grown exponentially over the last four decades. The evidence demonstrating the extent of their effectiveness, however, often has been criticized as stemming from studies lacking scientific rigor. A core reason for this critique is the widespread belief that credible evidence can derive only from research grounded in randomized control trials (RCTs). Although the RCT method has its strengths, we argue that it is rarely an optimalâor even a possibleâapproach for evaluating multifaceted DV programs. This article reviews the reasons that RCT is a poor fit for such programs and argues that a more inclusive conceptualization of credible evidence is critical to expanding our knowledge base about how DV programs affect survivorsâ safety and well-being
Cosmic ray neon, Wolf-Rayet stars, and the superbubble origin of galactic cosmic rays
The abundances of neon isotopes in the galactic cosmic rays (GCRs) are
reported using data from the Cosmic Ray Isotope Spectrometer (CRIS) aboard the
Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE). We compare our ACE-CRIS data for neon and
refractory isotope ratios, and data from other experiments, with recent results
from two-component Wolf-Rayet (WR) models. The three largest deviations of GCR
isotope ratios from solar-system ratios predicted by these models are indeed
present in the GCRs. Since WR stars are evolutionary products of OB stars, and
most OB stars exist in OB associations that form superbubbles, the good
agreement of these data with WR models suggests that superbubbles are the
likely source of at least a substantial fraction of GCRs.Comment: 22 pages, 6 figures Accepted for publication by Ap
Uniform high frequency expression of autoantibody-associated crossreactive idiotypes in the primary B cell follicles of human fetal spleen.
At 23 wk of gestation, the fetal spleen contains follicles of lymphocytes that coexpress B cell differentiation antigens, surface Ig, and the 67-kD pan-T lymphocyte antigen, CD5 (Leu-1). Such cells are thought to represent the normal equivalent cells of B chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). This B cell leukemia is distinctive in that high proportions of patients have leukemic cells that express sIg bearing one or more crossreactive idiotypes (CRIs) that commonly are found on IgM autoantibodies. We performed immunohistochemical studies on fetal spleen at 23 wk of gestation using a panel of mAbs specific for autoantibody-associated CRIs. We find that high proportions (5-17%) of the lymphocytes within each follicle react with any one of the anti-CRI mAbs. Furthermore, there is little variation between primary follicles in the proportions of cells that express a particular CRI. Using a cocktail of four anti-CRI mAbs, we detect autoantibody-associated CRIs on approximately one-third of the lymphocytes within each of the primary B cell follicles. These data indicate that the many of the Igs produced during early B cell development may be structurally related to IgM autoantibodies and to Ig expressed in CLL and related CD5 B cell malignancies. Furthermore, these studies suggest that the repertoire of Ig V genes expressed in each primary B cell follicle may be representative of the total restricted Ig V gene repertoire expressed during early B cell ontogeny
