    The matching problem between functional shapes via a BV-penalty term: a Γ\Gamma-convergence result

    In this paper we study a variant of the matching model between functional shapes introduced in \cite{ABN}. Such a model allows to compare surfaces equipped with a signal and the matching energy is defined by the L2L^2-norm of the signal on the surface and a varifold-type attachment term. In this work we study the problem with fixed geometry which means that we optimize the initial signal (supported on the initial surface) with respect to a target signal supported on a different surface. In particular, we consider a BVBV or H1H^1-penalty for the signal instead of its L2L^2-norm. Several numerical examples are shown in order to prove that the BVBV-penalty improves the quality of the matching.     Prepayment Behavior of Dutch Mortgagors: An Empirical Analysis

    The booming Dutch mortgage market and the development of a promising secondary mortgage market in the Netherlands stress the need for an accurate mortgage prepayment model that incorporates typical Dutch market and contract characteristics.One of those typical Dutch features prescribes that each calendar year the mortgagor is allowed to prepay penalty-free 10 to 20 percent of the original loan amount.As a consequence, Dutch mortgagees suffer a loss when borrowers prepay their loans.This risk, once again, underlines the importance of a prepayment model that focuses on the Dutch market.To derive such model we use historical data on mortgages originated between January 1989 and June 1999.We estimate separate models for two popular redemption types: savings mortgages and interest-only mortgages.In both models we allow for suboptimal prepayment behaviour.The results clearly indicate that prepayment rates depend on interest rates and the age of the mortgage contract.Moreover, Dutch prepayment rates peak in the month December.mortgages;econometric models

Thus, the compositions and methods may be used to reduce the dosages of anthracycline anti-cancer drugs necessary to produce a desired cancer-cell-killing performance. Preferred embodiments comprise treating cancer patients with a pharmaceutical composition comprising biphenyl compounds having two halogenated (or pseudo-halogenated) and/or hydroxylated, aryl groups that are linked by a bridging atom. The preferred composition of biphenyl compound(s) may be administered in a pharmaceutical composition also comprising at least one anthracycline compound, or may be administered separately than the at least one anthracycline compound.     Electrical conductivity measured in atomic carbon chains

    The first electrical conductivity measurements of monoatomic carbon chains are reported in this study. The chains were obtained by unraveling carbon atoms from graphene ribbons while an electrical current flowed through the ribbon and, successively, through the chain. The formation of the chains was accompanied by a characteristic drop in the electrical conductivity. The conductivity of carbon chains was much lower than previously predicted for ideal chains. First-principles calculations using both density functional and many-body perturbation theory show that strain in the chains determines the conductivity in a decisive way. Indeed, carbon chains are always under varying non-zero strain that transforms its atomic structure from cumulene to polyyne configuration, thus inducing a tunable band gap. The modified electronic structure and the characteristics of the contact to the graphitic periphery explain the low conductivity of the locally constrained carbon chain.Comment: 21 pages, 9 figure

    Probing the electron-phonon coupling in ozone-doped graphene by Raman spectroscopy

    We have investigated the effects of ozone treatment on graphene by Raman scattering. Sequential ozone short-exposure cycles resulted in increasing the pp doping levels as inferred from the blue shift of the 2DD and GG peak frequencies, without introducing significant disorder. The two-phonon 2DD and 2D′D' Raman peak intensities show a significant decrease, while, on the contrary, the one-phonon G Raman peak intensity remains constant for the whole exposure process. The former reflects the dynamics of the photoexcited electrons (holes) and, specifically, the increase of the electron-electron scattering rate with doping. From the ratio of 2DD to 2DD intensities, which remains constant with doping, we could extract the ratio of electron-phonon coupling parameters. This ratio is found independent on the number of layers up to ten layers. Moreover, the rate of decrease of 2DD and 2D′D' intensities with doping was found to slowdown inversely proportional to the number of graphene layers, revealing the increase of the electron-electron collision probability
