Management by indicators and financial performance of industrial companies in Jordan
Purpose: This research paper attempts to propose a new management approach for top management on how to lead companies. It examines the actual application level of the proposed management approach “management by indicators” in industrial companies in Jordan. It also investigates the relationship between the application of management by indicators of net income and return on investments of these companies. Design/Approach/Methodology: The application of management by indicators has been measured through distributing a questionnaire to the members of Securities Depository Center SDC - Public Shareholding Companies - Industry Sector, the number of which is 56 companies. Net income, total assets and return on investment of these companies for 2019 are published in the SDC website. Findings: The findings reveal that the application of management by indicators exists within the implementation level 40% - 59%. The results show that there is a statistically significant correlation between management by indicators and each of net income and return on investment at the 0.01 level (2-tailed). The findings also indicate that the correlation between management by indicators and return on investment is more statistically significant than the correlation between management by indicators and net income. Practical Implications: The paper concludes that performance indicators should orient the mentality of top management in running business. This sort of logical thought highlights the importance of performance management in business continuity and explores the causal linkages between measuring results and planning as a dynamic system. Originality/Value: The research paper is pure and contributes to literature. Management by indicators facilitates performance appraisal and accountability, contributes to transparency and integrity. Thereby, it makes the work environment an enabling place for productivity and achievement.peer-reviewe
From the Private Submissive Sphere to Public Intellectual Resistance: American Female Playwrights’ Contributions to Dramaturgy and Feminism
This article joins a vibrant conversation in American literary studies about the contribution of female playwrights to dramaturgy as well as the feminist movement in the early twentieth century. In addition to assessing their contribution to American drama, the article extends the discussion to study how these female dramatists reflected the status of women in contemporary societies. We argue that the selected works of Susan Glaspell’s Trifles (1916) and Bernice (1917), Lorraine Hansberrys A Raisin in the Sun (1959), and Rachel Crothers’ A Mans World (1910) reveal a process, a transformation, a theatrical presentation of the development of female awareness about the self, the masculine, and the community. The analysis of these plays reveals recurrent patterns of resistance and recreation that witness the development and advancement of American feminism into three stages – namely, resisting masculine exclusionist ideologies through instinctual, unintellectual means, recreating and maneuvering self-actualization while compromising agency, and adopting social activism to expose the private oppression of women. The analysis of these plays shows that these patterns are not just recurrent and repetitive; it also shows the response to these patterns as productively evolving. These examples of drama show the progress of American theater in general and connect the discussion to larger cultural perspectives about American feminism
Channel fading attenuation based on rainfall rate for future 5G wireless communication system over 38-GHz
In this paper, the effect of heavy rainfall on the propagation of a 38-GHz in a tropical region was studied and analyzed. Real measurement was collected, with a path length of 300 meters, for a (5G) radio linkage in Malaysia, installed at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Johor Bahru campus. The employed system entails an Ericsson MINI-Link 38 E-0.6 mm, with a horizontal polarization (HP) antenna at the top integrated with a rain gauge and a data logger. Daily registered samples with a single minute span, for a full study period of 1 month, were collected and evaluated. The obtained rain rate was found as 56 mm/hr with a specific rain attenuation of 18.4 dB/km for 0.01% of the time. In addition to that, a calculated average rain attenuation of 5.5 dB for the transmission path of 300 meters length, was calculated. Based on these findings, a recommendation to update the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) specification of the rain attenuation for Malaysia is proposed. Based on the results, we suggest shifting the zone classification of Malaysia from zone P to zone N-P. Therefore, accurate design for future 5G systems would rely on more precise estimated attenuation levels leading to enhanced performance
University Student Perceptions of Online Learning in Jordan
This research paper examined Jordanian university students\u27 perceptions of online learning in terms of knowledge, attitude, and practice (variables of the KAP model). It also investigated the relationship between their perceptions of online learning and their academic performance. students\u27 perceptions of variables of the KAP model toward online learning were measured through an online questionnaire distributed to Jordanian universities students. Academic performance was also measured by identifying students\u27 perceptions of their academic performance after switching to online learning due to COVID-19. One-sample t-test results indicated that the means of responses fall within the area of agreement (agree and strongly agree) regarding students\u27 perceptions of online learning in terms of knowledge, attitudes, and performance without any significant differences. Correlation and regression analysis showed statistically significant relationships between students\u27 perceptions of their knowledge, attitudes and practices toward online learning and their academic performance. Such a positive perception of students towards online learning can be implied by educational institutions and educators to put the best use of online learning as a starting point to complement traditional face-to-face teaching by investing in technologies that support online learning, and by enhancing and improving online platforms to deliver course materials, provide additional resources, and facilitate discussions and collaboration among students in a more effective, efficient way
Adlerian counseling, fear of intimacy, and social interest among university students
University students in early adulthood indeed encounter diverse developmental demands, particularly in the realm of relationships and social development. This stage often involves considerations related to establishing families and entering into marriage or long-term partnerships. This study aims to assess the efficacy of a premarital counseling program grounded in the Adlerian approach in enhancing intimacy and social interest among a sample of single university students. The sample comprised 718 single young individuals from a public university in Jordan. Among them, 38 students displaying low social interest and experiencing fear of intimacy voluntarily participated. They were divided into two groups: an experimental group of 19 participants and a control group of 19 participants. The study utilized two measurement scales-one for fear of intimacy and another for social interest. The group counseling program, consisting of 11 sessions, was administered. The findings revealed significant differences between the experimental and control groups in pre- and post-measurements, indicating the positive impact of the group counseling program on the experimental group. Additionally, follow-up assessments indicated that the beneficial effects of the group counseling program were sustained over time
Parents’ Role in Gifted Students’ Educational Issues and Development
The purpose of this research is to assess the role of parents in the education of children with exceptional intellect. This study is a qualitative and descriptive research effort conducted with parental participation. The researcher created an interview grid as the primary instrument, which was verified by two individuals before to use. Several approaches, including observation, the inspection of documents, and interviews, were used to collect data. Data triangulation, source triangulation, time triangulation, method triangulation, and outcome triangulation were used to validate the data. The Miles-Huberman-Saldana paradigm for data analysis consists of four stages: data collection, data compression, data presentation, and accuracy verification. The studys results reveal, among other things, that it is the obligation of parents to seek information and identify the features of gifted children in order to determine the educational needs of their gifted children. This is one of the recommendations that may be derived from the studys results. Provide support to intelligent youths in choosing and identifying suitable educational institutions. Providing talented children with aid in resolving interpersonal disputes generated by their perfectionism and authoritarianism is an essential component of their educational experience. It is a vital part of education to assist pupils in overcoming the internal obstacles they confront as bright persons to determine if a more effective mentorship technique for teaching talented students can be used in the classroom
Using Task-based Activities to Improve the Writing skills of Students with Learning Disabilities
This study investigated the effectiveness of online task-based activities on developing the writing skills of students with learning disabilities. This study employed the experimental design by developing a list of task-based activities and a pre-test and a post-test to measure students’ level in writing before and after applying the strategy. The study included 65 students with LDs in the English language in Irbid city, Jordan. Two groups were formed from the sample; one was taught using task-based activities and the other was taught by the traditional method. The results showed an improvement in the performance of the experimental group in writing skills. The task-based activities proved to be effective in online education and can be used by teachers of LDs in the classroom as well. Finally, the study recommended providing training on the importance of task-based activities and conducting more studies on this topic
An Intelligent Information System and Application for the Diagnosis and Analysis of COVID-19
The novel coronavirus spread across the world at the start of 2020. Millions of people are infected due to the COVID-19. At the start, the availability of corona test kits is challenging. Researchers analyzed the current situation and produced the COVID-19 detection system on X-ray scans. Artificial intelligence (AI) based systems produce better results in terms of COVID detection. Due to the overfitting issue, many AI-based models cannot produce the best results, directly impacting model performance. In this study, we also introduced the CNN-based technique for classifying normal, pneumonia, and COVID-19. In the proposed model, we used batch normalization to regularize the mode land achieve promising results for the three binary classes. The proposed model produces 96.56% accuracy for the classification for COVID-19 vs. Normal. Finally, we compared our model with other deep learning-based approaches and discovered that our approach outperformed
Jordanian Arabic Teachers’ Knowledge Level about Language Skills Assessment
هدفت الدراسة إلى الكشف عن مستوى معرفة معلمي اللغة العربية في الأردن بتقييم المهارات اللغوية (الاستماع، والتحدث، والقراءة، والكتابة)، وما إذا كان ذلك يختلف باختلاف متغيري المؤهل العلمي، وعدد سنوات الخبرة. ولتحقيق أهداف الدراسة، استخدم اختبار المعرفة بتقييم المهارات اللغوية، وزّع بالتساوي إلى أربعة اختبارات فرعية لمهارات: القراءة، والكتابة، والاستماع، والتحدث، تكونت عينة الدراسة من (205) من معلمي اللغة العربية ومعلماتها في المدارس التابعة لمديرية التربية والتعليم للواء بني كنانة في محافظة إربد. أظهرت نتائج الدراسة أن مستوى معرفة معلمي اللغة العربية بتقييم المهارات اللغوية متدن في الاختبار ككل، وفي المجالات جميعها؛ إذ جاءت المجالات حسب مستوى معرفتهم بتقييمها مرتبة كالآتي: القراءة، فالكتابة، فالتحدث، فالاستماع. وفي ضوء نتائج الدراسة، قدمت التوصيات اللازمة.The study aimed at investigating Jordanian Arabic teachers’ knowledge level about language skills assessment (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), and whether the level of their knowledge differs according to the variables of qualification, and years of experience. To achieve the aims of the study, the language assessment knowledge test was used, the test consisted of (60) true false items. The sample of the study consisted of (205) Arabic teachers in the schools affiliated to Bani Kinana directorate of education in Irbid Governorate.The results of the study showed that the knowledge level of Arabic teachers' language skills assessment was low in the test as a whole and in each domains, where the order of skills according to the level of their knowledge was as follows: reading, writing, speaking, listening. The results also showed that there were no statistical significant differences in the level of teachers' knowledge about language skills assessment according to the variables of qualification and years of experience
Knowledge and Attitudes of Young People toward Mental Illness: A Cross Sectional Study
The aim of the study was to investigate young Jordanians’ knowledge and attitudes toward people who have a mental illness. A cross sectional design was utilized. A convenient sample of 858 participants aged between 15–24 years old completed a survey. Participants under 19 years were accessed through their schools and those 19 years and above were accessed through universities. Results showed that although the majority of university and school students’ responses were generally consistent, they disagreed on 11 items on the survey; for example, 186 (39.3%) of university students agreed that mental illness has a biological origin compared with only 119 (30%) of school students. The majority of young people 737 (85.9%) were willing to learn and 792 (92.3%) felt that they have to help people with mental illness, which make them willing to learn. In conclusion, the findings provide insights for decision makers and researchers in Jordan about young peoples’ knowledge and attitudes toward mental illness. Increasing young adults’ literacy through introducing educational programs such as mental health first aid courses will enrich their knowledge; help change attitudes and reduce stigma toward people living with mental illness
