IMCOAST is an international research program that features a multidisciplinary approach involving geo and biological sciences, field investigations, remote sensing and modeling and knowledge into the hydrographical and biological history of the marine coastal ecosystems of the Western Antarctic Peninsula region

New Record of \u3ci\u3eBrachycercus Maculatus\u3c/i\u3e Berner (Ephemeroptera: Caenidae) From New York and a Key to Larvae of Northeastern Species

    Get PDF
Brachycercus maculatus, a member of a rare group of mayflies, is now recorded for the first time from New York State in the upper Hudson River. An illustrated key to the Brachycercus larvae of northeastern North America is provided to spur further study of the genus in the region

Measurement of the neutron lifetime using a gravitational trap and a low-temperature Fomblin coating

We present a new value for the neutron lifetime of 878.5 +- 0.7 stat. +- 0.3 syst. This result differs from the world average value (885.7 +- 0.8 s) by 6.5 standard deviations and by 5.6 standard deviations from the previous most precise result. However, this new value for the neutron lifetime together with a beta-asymmetry in neutron decay, Ao, of -0.1189(7) is in a good agreement with the Standard Model.Comment: 11 pages, 9 figures; extended content with some correction

New effects observed in central production by experiment WA102 at the CERN Omega Spectrometer

A partial wave analysis of the centrally produced KK and pipi systems shows that the fJ(1710) has J = 0. In addition, a study of central meson production as a function of the difference in transverse momentum (dPT) of the exchanged particles shows that undisputed qqbar mesons are suppressed at small dPT whereas the glueball candidates are enhanced and that the production cross section for different resonances depends strongly on the azimuthal angle between the two outgoing protons.Comment: 5 pages, Latex, 3 Figures to appear in the proceeding of PANIC 99, Uppsala, Sweden, June 199

Improved predictions of the standard model and the detection of new physics in neutron beta decay

    Get PDF
We improve the current predictions of the standard model for neutron beta decay observables and compare them with the currently available ones. Next we study their implications in the possible detection of new physics. We discuss where the limitations are and where further efforts should be directed.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, to appear in Physics Letters

The influence of the chameleon field potential on transition frequencies of gravitationally bound quantum states of ultra-cold neutrons

We calculate the chameleon field potential for ultracold neutrons, bouncing on top of one or between two neutron mirrors in the gravitational field of the Earth. For the resulting non--linear equations of motion we give approximate analytical solutions and compare them with exact numerical ones for which we propose the analytical fit. The obtained solutions may be used for the quantitative analysis of contributions of a chameleon field to the transition frequencies of quantum states of ultra-cold neutrons bound in the gravitational field of the Earth.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figure

Characterisation of HTSC ceramics from their resistive transition

The resistivity vs. temperature relation in bulk ceramic HTSC under self-field conditions as well as in weak external magnetic fields is modelled by local Lorentz force induced fluxon motion with temperature dependent pinning. A pinning force density and two viscous drag coefficients in intergrain and intragrain regions, respectively, can be used as characteristic parameters describing the temperature, current, and external field dependences of the sample resistance.Comment: 12 pages, LaTeX2e, 6 figures (epsfig), to be published in Supercond.
