A Critical Review of the Principles Governing Diet Intake in Ayurveda

    Get PDF
Diet has been given very crucial importance in Ayurveda regarding maintenance of health and causation of diseases. A lot of description about what to eat and how to eat has been given in the texts. This article discusses the rules for deciding the food for an individual and eating the food as given in Ayurveda in the light of scientific knowledge

Multijet Discriminators for New Physics in Leptonic Signals at the LHC

Some of the cleanest signals for new physics in the early runs of the LHC will involve strongly-produced particles which give rise to multiple leptons by undergoing cascade decays through weakly-interacting states to stable particles. Some of the most spectacular final states will involve three or more leptons, multiple jets and generally missing energy-momentum as well. A triad of the most interesting models of new physics which induce such signals is known to consist of (i) supersymmetry with R-parity conservation, (ii) a universal extra dimension with conservation of KK-parity and (iii) little Higgs models with conserved T-parity. Similar signals could also arise if the Standard Model is augmented with a fourth sequential generation of heavy fermions. We study all these possibilities and show that a judiciously chosen set of observables, critically involving the number of identifiable jets and leptons, can collectively provide distinct footprints for each of these models. In fact, simple pairwise correlation of such observables can enable unambiguous identification of the underlying model, even with a relatively small data sample.Comment: 43 pages, LaTex2e, 8 embedded eps figure

Genetic relationship among Hyacinth bean (Lablab purpureus) genotypes cultivars from different races based on quantitative traits and random amplified polymorphic DNA marker

Genetic improvement of the thirty Hyacinth bean cultivars from different races were evaluated using RAPD markers which is essential to enhance the crop for economically and agriculturally important traits. RAPD markers were efficient in separating cultivars according to different races. Twenty sixdecamer primers could generate a total number of 148 bands out which 70.27% (104) were polymorphic. The number of amplification products produced by each primer varied from 4 to 9 with an average of5.69 bands per primer. The size of amplified fragments ranged from 250 to 3000 bp. RAPD based dendrogram showed similarity ranged from 0.38 to 0.96. Genetic distances were concluded using Sorenson Dices similarity coefficient. The genetic relationship obtained with these markers wasdissimilar to that provided by morpho-agronomical trait. Genetically distinct cultivars were identified that could be potentially important source of germplasm for further crop improvement programme in the country

Primary intraosseous mucoepidermoid carcinoma of maxilla- case report

Primary intraosseous mucoepidermoid carcinoma (PIOC) of the jaw bones is an extremely rare malignant salivary gland tumour constituting 2-4.3% of all the reported mucoepidermoid carcinomas (MEC). It is commonly seen in the posterior part of the mandible and rare in maxilla. The aetiopathogenesis of the PIOC is not completely understood. We hereby, report a case of PIOC of the maxilla in an 18 year old male patient. An incisional biopsy was performed, and the histopathological findings confirmed intermediate-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma. Maxillary MEC have a worse prognosis than mandibular cases and it should be followed-up for a longer period due to the possibility of late recurrence or regional metastasis

Effects of Universal Extra Dimensions on Higgs signals at LHC

A major focus at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will be Higgs boson studies and it would be an interesting prospect to simultaneously probe for physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) in the Higgs signals. In this work we show as to what extent, the effects of Universal Extra Dimension (UED) can be isolated at the LHC through the Higgs signals. By doing a detailed study of the different uncertainties involved in the measurement of the rates for the process pp --> h --> gamma gamma we estimate the extent to which these uncertainties can mask the effects of the contributions coming from UED.Comment: 13 pages, LateX, Title changed, text and figures modified. New forms of BRST symmetry in rigid rotor

We derive the different forms of BRST symmetry by using the Batalin-Fradkin-Vilkovisky formalism in a rigid rotor. The so called "dual-BRST" symmetry is obtained from usual BRST symmetry by making a canonical transformation in the ghost sector. On the other hand, a canonical transformation in the sector involving Lagrange multiplier and its corresponding momentum leads to a new form of BRST as well as dual-BRST symmetry.Comment: 10 Pages, revtex, No Fig

Background: Older people are potentially at greater risk of medication error. Gaining insight into the prescribing pattern especially in eye diseases as they are a common problem in elderly, in order to identify prescribing related problems is the fundamental step in improving the quality of prescription and patient care. Methods: Prescriptions fulfilling inclusion criteria were collected from hospital Medical record department (MRD) and analyzed using the World Health Organization (WHO) core prescribing indicators for rationality of prescriptions. Results: Among 811 prescriptions analysed, 52.7% (428) were of male patients, those aged 60-70 years were 77.2% (626) and patients with only cataract constituted 77% (625). Prescriptions with oral antibiotics were 57.1% (334); topical antibiotics were 35.8% (429) and topical analgesics 46.2% (553). Out of 1182 FDCs noted, 59% (479) were found to be rational and 34.6% (281) were from Essential Medicines List 2014. Only 2% (61) drugs were prescribed using generic name while 64.06% (1606) of drugs were from the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines (April 2015). Average number of drugs per encounter was 3.7. Percentage of encounters with antibiotics was found to be 43.8% and no prescriptions with injections were noted. Conclusions: Although usage of antibiotics and topical drugs was conforming to WHO recommended standards, there is a need to improve prescription pattern by using generic names and drugs from Essential Drug List
