Mechanical behavior of asphalt mixtures containing silica gels as warm additives

    Get PDF
This paper presents the results of a study of some compounds capable of absorbing water into their structure (silica gel), as potential foaming binders. Asphalt mixtures were manufactured at different manufacturing and compaction temperatures, using four different silica gels. Static and dynamic tests were carried out to determine their behavior in asphalt mixtures. The results were compared with those obtained using hot-mix asphalt and warm-mix asphalt manufactured with zeolite. The lab results showed a similar behavior of asphalt mixtures containing either silica gel or zeolite. The research presented herein was sponsored by the Research Office of Universidad de La Frontera (DIUFRO) under the project number DI15-0089

Polymorphism of 30 canine-derived microsatellites was studied in a group of 200 red foxes kept on 2 Polish farms. 22 out of 30 microsatellites were selected to study association between marker genotypes and body weight (BW), body length (BL), body circumference (BC), tail length (TL), ear height (EH), length of the right front limb (FRLL), length of the right rear limb (RRLL), length of the right front foot (FRFL) and length of the right rear foot (RRFL). A total of 112 alleles and 243 genotypes were found at 22 autosomal microsatellite loci. Three monomorphic loci deemed as uninformative were excluded from the study. The association between marker genotypes and the studied traits was analysed using general linear model (GLM) procedure and least squares means (LSM). Linkage disequilibrium (LD) was estimated to assess non-random association between microsatellite loci. Out of 19 microsatellites studied four markers showed no association with the studied traits, three markers had a significant effect on one trait, and another three markers had significant effect on two traits. Among ten microsatellites with significant effect on four economically important traits (BW, BL, BC, TL) four were associated with two characters: marker FH2613 with BW and BC, marker FH2097withBL and BC, marker ZUBECA6 with BW and BC, whereas marker REN75M10 was associated with BL and TL. The strongest LD (r(2) ranged from 0.15 to 0.33) was estimated between nine loci with significant effect on economically important traits (BW, BL, BC, TL)

Threat to human life and health road accidents in environmental studies on the example of the national road number 17 between Piaski and Hrebenne

The usefulness of construction the expressway number 17 on the way Piaski and Hrebenne has been analysed in the article. The analysis takes into consideration the environmental impact, inhabitants and drivers as well. The road that has been analysed shows that the cause of roads construction or reconstruction should not concern only individual aspects but all the socio-environmental factors

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the design of warm-mix asphalt. One way to reduce the temperature of bituminous mix is the use of zeolite. The article shows the lack of differences in designing WMA recipe with zeolite addition compared to the HMA

One way to strengthen the pavement design is the method of deflections. As it turns out, this method is not always possible to apply. This paper presents a method for determining the thickness of the overlay reinforcement, based on deflection when looking for breakstone layer thickness is outside the boundary curves in the nomogram

W pracy przedstawiono i omówiono wstępne wyniki badań zastosowania zeolitów do obniżenia temperatury zagęszczania mieszanek mineralno-asfaltowych. In this study, preliminary results of zeolite application to reduce the compaction temperature of mix asphalt are presented and discussed. The reference mix was an asphalt concrete AC 16 W containing 35/50 penetration grade bitumen and designed for binder course. Two types of the zeolites were used for tests: natural zeolite klinoptilolit and synthetic NaP1 one. The optimal amount of zeolite addition was determined on the basis of the compactibility test results in the Marshall compactor as well as in the gyratory compactor. The results of stiffness modulus and waterproofness tests confirm the possibility to reduce the compaction temperature of asphalt mixes with zeolite additions to 1300C level
