Mass Shift of Axion in Magnetic Field

A mass-shift of the axion propagating in an external constant homogenious magnetic field is calculated. The contributions via an electron loop and a virtual photon are examined. It is shown that the virtual photon contribution dominates substantially over the electron-loop one. Under the conditions of the early Universe the electron-loop contribution to the massless axion mass-shift is equal to zero while the virtual photon contribution is finite and can be of order of the recent restrictions on the axion mass.Comment: 4 pages, latex2e, 2 PS figures, uses ws-p8-50x6-00.sty (included) and amssymb.sty. Double radiative decay ZffˉγγZ \rightarrow f\bar{f}\gamma\gamma in the Standard Model

Z-boson decay Zff~γγZ \rightarrow f\tilde{f}\gamma\gamma in the Standard Model is analysed. The distribution function on the invariant masses of the photon and fermion pairs is calculated in the leading logarithmic approximation. It is shown that this distribution function has a specific shape of a ``crest''. Microstructure and phase composition of cold Isostatically pressed and pressureless sintered silicon nitride

    Get PDF
The microstructure and physical properties of new Y₂O₃ and Al₂O₃ oxide-doped silicon nitride ceramics fabricated by cold isostatic pressing and free sintering were investigated. The phase composition of produced material was also studied by X-ray diffraction at room and elevated temperature. The fabricated ceramics featured a microstructure of Si₅AlON₇ grains with a fine-grained α-Si₃N₄ with a small amount of Y₂SiAlON₅. Described ceramics is attractive for many high-temperature structural applications due to beneficial combination of fine-grained structure with improved mechanical properties and small weight los

    Field-induced axion emission via process e+eae^+ e^- \to a in plasma

    Get PDF
The annihilation into axion e+eae^+ e^- \to a is investigated in a plasma and an external magnetic field. This process via a plasmon intermediate state has a resonant character at a particular energy of the emitted axion. The emissivity by e+eae^+ e^- \to a is compared with the axion cyclotron emissivity.Comment: 8 pages, latex, 4 PS figure

Relativistic Energy Density Functional Description of Shape Transition in Superheavy Nuclei

    Get PDF
Relativistic energy density functionals (REDF) provide a complete and accurate, global description of nuclear structure phenomena. A modern semi-empirical functional, adjusted to the nuclear matter equation of state and to empirical masses of deformed nuclei, is applied to studies of shapes of superheavy nuclei. The theoretical framework is tested in a comparison of calculated masses, quadrupole deformations, and potential energy barriers to available data on actinide isotopes. Self-consistent mean-field calculations predict a variety of spherical, axial and triaxial shapes of long-lived superheavy nuclei, and their alpha-decay energies and half-lives are compared to data. A microscopic, REDF-based, quadrupole collective Hamiltonian model is used to study the effect of explicit treatment of collective correlations in the calculation of Q{\alpha} values and half-lives.Comment: 23 pages, 10 figure

Accuracy of one-dimensional collision integral in the rigid spheres approximation

    Get PDF
The accuracy of calculation of spectral line shapes in one-dimensional approximation is studied analytically in several limiting cases for arbitrary collision kernel and numerically in the rigid spheres model. It is shown that the deviation of the line profile is maximal in the center of the line in case of large perturber mass and intermediate values of collision frequency. For moderate masses of buffer molecules the error of one-dimensional approximation is found not to exceed 5%.Comment: LaTeX, 24 pages, 8 figure

«The Image of the Enemy» in the Russian Empire during the Great War

The article analyzes the formation of “the image of the enemy” in the Russian society in 1914–1916 on the basis of periodical and non-periodical publications. The author focuses on the relationship of information policy and its part in the military-political events in the world. It displays the impact of media on mass consciousness. It is also noted that the formation of the image of the enemy was productive in the army and among the population, but only during the early years of the war. In addition to newspapers and illustrated periodicals (“Lyetopis’ voyny”, “Velikaya voyna v obrazakh i kartinkhakh”, “Ogonyok”, “Iskry”, “Neva”), brochures and books, published for “propagandizing” the reader during the Great War were also used as materials for the article
