The role of digital technologies in the innovation of collaborative networks: The case of the ornamental stones in Portugal
This exploratory research outlines an innovative business model for the ornamental stones, in Portugal, targeting World Class Manufacturing. Research questions arise from an inductive approach empirically based on a participant-observer that participated in JETSTONE and INOVSTONE, two important Mobilising Projects for the cluster. A collaborative network pursuing a Service Systems view, leveraged by digital technologies was proposed based on a 3-stage development facilitated by the ARCON framework (ECOLEAD project), as follows: development of a general VBE/VO model completed by knowledge coming from BIM, Industry 4.0, IoT and Service Science backgrounds, in order to build up a specific model to the ornamental stones Industry. Finally, the specific model should be verified by case studies as demonstrating instances. While the generic VBE/VO might be customized to other domains, the specific model generates a representation of the Industry and the case studies serve as instances to verify it.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Aptidão da cultura do mamoeiro para o Estado da Bahia.
O Brasil produziu aproximadamente 1,79 milhão de toneladas de frutos de mamão no ano de 2009. A Bahia, maior estado produtor do País, respondeu por aproximadamente 49,7% desse total, seguido do Espírito Santo (30,6%) e Ceará (5,85%). O cultivo do mamoeiro na Bahia é desenvolvido predominantemente em condições de sequeiro, sendo o estresse por deficiência hídrica o principal fator limitante para expansão da área de plantio e o principal critério utilizado nos trabalhos de zoneamento climático no Nordeste brasileiro.PDF. n. 101_11
Continuous beer fermentation with yeast immobilized on alternative cheap carriers and sensorial evaluation of the final product
Continuous beer fermentation offers a wide range of advantages, mostly of economic nature over
the traditional batch process. However, due to increased complexity of operation comparing to batch process,
flavor problems, risk of contamination, yeast viability, carrier price and inconvenience of immobilization, the
continuous beer fermentation has found few practical applications so far. The carrier cost represents a
significant part of the investment costs and therefore the need for a cheap support material easy to regenerate
is still relevant. This work deals with a complete continuous fermentation system for beer fermentation and
maturation consisting of an airlift and a packed-bed reactor containing brewing yeast immobilized on spent
grains and corncobs, respectively. The objective of this study was to verify the long-term performance of the
system and the suitability of these new cellulose-based carrier materials made from brewing and agricultural
by-products. Further the influence of feed rate and aeration rate on bioreactors fermentation performance,
immobilized biomass load, ethanol production and flavor profile of both green and maturated beer was
followed. The influence of process parameters on sensorial quality of beer has been studied by
physicochemical methods as well as by sensorial analysis (acceptance and description tests) carried out by
both consumers and experienced tasters. This work clearly demonstrated the technological feasibility of the
continuous brewing based on yeast immobilization on cheap alternative carriers (spent grains, corncobs) for

Chemical safety of children's play paints: Focus on selected heavy metals
Children's play paints are widely used as didactic products in preschool activities. Besides direct skin contact, a great risk of oral exposure exists during its normal and foreseeable use. Due to the ubiquitous nature of most metals, their presence as impurities in all products is recognized as unavoidable. However, the toxic potential of most of them requires that their levels are kept as low as possible.
The present study aimed to assess the content of selected heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Cr, Co, Ni, Mn, Cu and Zn) in “artist paints” (n = 54) and “face paints” (n = 12) commonly used in preschool establishments and available at low cost stores. Determinations were carried out by GFAAS (for Pb, Cd, Co, Cr and Ni) and FAAS (for Mn, Cu and Zn).
The levels obtained [mean ± SD (maximum)] were: 0.48 ± 0.44 (1.98) μg g− 1 for Pb; 0.04 ± 0.04 (0.30) μg g− 1 for Cd; 0.17 ± 0.20 (1.47) μg g− 1 for Co; 1.36 ± 2.18 (9.40) μg g− 1 for Cr; 0.63 ± 0.56 (3.10) μg g− 1 for Ni; 19.8 ± 88.2 (718) μg g− 1 for Mn; 108 ± 260 (1458) μg g− 1 for Cu; and 130 ± 564 (3478) μg g− 1 for Zn.
A safety assessment considering the estimated potential exposure and health-based limits (tolerable daily intakes) was performed. Overall, the results showed no reasons for safety concerns regarding the studied elements.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
