Conodonts, ammonoids, foraminifers, and depositional setting of the Serpukhovian and Bashkirian stages in the Kugarchi Section in the South Urals, Russia
TheKugarchi Section in the Zilair Synclinorium in the SouthUrals (Russia, Bashkortostan) is one of themost complete sections of the Bukharcha Formation, including the entire Serpukhovian and the lower Bashkirian. This is the type section of the Bogdanovkian Regional Infrasubstage ('Horizon'), the lowermost Bashkirian of the Urals. The section spans the Visean-Serpukhovian andMid-Carboniferous boundaries and contains various ammonoids, conodonts, and foraminifers, providing a good basis for the regional stratigraphy and global correlations. The section has been measured and logged, and its microfacies and fossils are identified in this study
Resource-efficient low-loss four-channel active demultiplexer for single photons
We report a design and implementation of a resource-efficient spatial
demultiplexer which produces 4 indistinguishable photons with efficiency of
39.7% per channel. Our scheme is based on a free-space storage/delay line which
accumulates 4 photons and releases them by a controlled polarization rotation
using a single Pockels cell.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figure
Monolithic and hybrid integration of InAs/GaAs quantum dot microdisk lasers on silicon
A method of hybrid integration of quantum dot microdisk lasers with silicon wafer is proposed and realized. In addition to the possibility of combining microlasers with various silicon-based electronic and photonic devices, this makes it possible to significantly improve heat removal from the active region of the microlaser. The thermal resistance normalized to the mesa area reaches the level of about 0.002 (K/W)*cm2, which is significantly lower than the corresponding values of QD microlasers on GaAs substrate and monolithically grown on Si. As a result, the threshold current as well as current-induced shift of emission wavelength are reduced in continuous-wave regime
The Dzerzhinka Section (eastern slope of the South Urals): An overview of the fauna and facies around the Devonian-Carboniferous boundary
TheDevonian-Carboniferous boundary section near the village of Dzerzhinka (vicinity ofVerkhneuralsk) on the Ural River on the eastern slope of the South Urals, Russia, contains a wide variety of fossil invertebrates, including foraminifers, ostracodes, ammonoids, conodonts, and brachiopods. Diverse Upper Famennian assemblages are associated with wackestone-grainstone microfacies and bioclastic-volcaniclastic arenite, suggesting normal marine sedimentation in a volcanic-arc setting. The presence of well-established shallow-water benthic communities associated with the basinal Palmatolepis conodont biofacies and breccias is difficult to interpret. The latest Devonian and earliest Mississippian Siphonodella praesulcata and S. sulcata conodont zones are missing from the succession, indicating a discontinuity of sedimentation that is, associated with a hardground with phosphorite nodules. By the time of the S. quadruplicata Zone, normal marine sedimentation resumed, while the shelf continued to subside and was eventually overlain by siliciclastic and cherty sediments
Serological monitoring of avian influenza and Newcastle disease in the Russian Federation in 2020
Within the framework of the Rosselkhoznadzor measures aimed at control of highly dangerous diseases and development of timely recommendations for disease prevention and control, 36,986 serum samples to be tested for the presence of avian influenza virus antibodies and 30,325 serum samples to be tested for the presence of Newcastle disease virus antibodies were submitted to the FGBI “ARRIAH” Reference Laboratory for Avian Viral Diseases in 2020. The samples were collected from domestic, wild and synanthropic birds in 60 Subjects of the Russian Federation. As a result of the laboratory diagnosis, antibodies against type A influenza virus were found in vaccinated chickens from two poultry farms in the Primorsky Krai. Typing of sample sera using hemagglutination inhibition test showed that the detected antibodies were specific to the haemagglutinin subtype of the vaccine antigen (A/H9). Antibodies to the H9 subtype avian influenza virus were detected in sera of non-vaccinated geese from two poultry farms in the Kurgan Oblast and from one poultry farm in the Republic of Bashkortostan. As for the backyards where scheduled vaccination against avian influenza A/H5 is carried out, a low level of immunity was seen in the Republics of Adygea and Chechnya (0 and 15%, respectively), while a high immunity level was observed in the Rostov Oblast (74%). High seroprevalence of Newcastle disease virus was found in adult poultry in indoor industrial farms, which was associated with mass vaccination against the disease. In broiler chickens, post-vaccination antibodies were observed, on average, in 44% of the tested sera samples. The antibodies against Newcastle disease virus and avian influenza virus subtype H5 detected in wild and synanthropic birds indicate the circulation of these viruses in the Russian Federation. The insufficient level of post-vaccination antibodies suggests that the risk of epidemic among poultry in industrial poultry farms and backyards remains
Summary. The study of course and control of the disease, quality of life and cytokine profile in patients with bronchial asthma (BА) and allergic rhinitis (АR) involved 138 patients aged 18 to 70 years. Patients with combination of these diseases had drug allergy (34.3 % vs 12.1 %), food allergy (34.3 % vs15.2 %), pollen sensitization (77.1 % vs 45.5 %), coexisting pathology of the upper respiratory tract (21.9 % vs 3,0 %) and family history of АR(38.1 % vs 15.2 %) significantly more often when compared to patients with BА alone. Majority of the patients (65.7 %) had poor controlled BА.Combination of BА and АR was found to influence negatively on the patients' quality of life. The observed relations between quality of life, results of ACT-test and serum cytokine levels (IFN-γ, IL-8) allow considering the given parameters as criteria of asthma control.

Investigation of thin films MgAl2O4, deposited on the Si substrates by vacuum thermal evaporation
The article presents data on the study of X-ray structural and microstructural characteristics of thin films of aluminum-magnesium spinel MgAl2O4 deposited on Si substrates by vacuum thermal evaporation. MgAl2O4 films have a polycrystalline rhombic structure. The values of the unit cell parameters of MgAl2O4 are calculated. Scanning electron and atomic force microscopy showed that MgAl2O4 films have a densely packed structure without cracks. Physical characteristics and good adhesion of MgAl2O4 thin films to silicon substrates indicate their possibility of using in devices of opto- and microelectronics

Lasing of InP/AlInAs quantum dots in AlInAs microdisk cavity
AlInAs microdisk cavities having quality factor Q ~ 15 000 were fabricated from lattice-matched InP/AlInAs (interface/aggregation) quantum dot (QD) structures using wet chemical etching. The QD emission coupled to whispering gallery modes was observed at spectral range 920 - 1000 nm at temperatures of 10 - 160 K. The laser generation with threshold power density of 50 W/cm2 at T = 10 K was observed under optical pumping. It was found that the spontaneous emission coupling factor β equals 0.23 for these microdisks. The low temperature lasing operation and the small coupling factors observed suggest the existence of small QDs formed at the InP/InAlAs interface as the main active elements
