The purpose of this study was to examine home background and social value system as predictor for increase in social vices among the youths in Ekiti State, Nigeria. One thousand youths were randomly selected from two senatorial districts, out of the three senatorial districts in the state (south and central) and two hundred and fifty youths were selected from two local government areas from each of the two senatorial districts. The instrument used to collect data was questionnaire and content validity was used to validate the instrument. Also, the reliability co-efficient obtained was 0.78 which was obtained through the test-retest method which was administered on 100 youths outside the four local government areas. Data collected were analysed using regression analysis. Findings of the study showed that home background and social value system can predict effectively the involvement of the youths in social vices. The paper therefore concluded that the involvement of youths in social vices could be curbed if people could change their orientation on the way they celebrate success in the society not minding how the individual came about his/her sudden wealth and riches. It is therefore recommended that parents should be more watchful, monitor, control and counsel their wards rightly and if possible reprimand their children for wrong doings to bring the best out of them. The need for industrial driven research in recent times is been promoted through patenting and commercialization of inventions in higher institutions of learning, which is aimed at meeting societal needs through the industry. The basic concept of technology transfer lies in the recognition that the existing technology is available in the academia and is needed in the industry. The purpose of this article describes how identified technologies are deployed from the institutions to the industry where qualitative and quantitative techniques are used to explore the transfer. This is to understand existing relationship and suggest more suitable arrangements through industry – academic linkage. Research and Development (R&D) department of the industry should relate directly with Research Centres of the Institutions to foster the desired need driven research in Nigeria. Uniform Local Amenability

The main results of this paper show that various coarse (`large scale') geometric properties are closely related. In particular, we show that property A implies the operator norm localisation property, and thus that norms of operators associated to a very large class of metric spaces can be effectively estimated. The main tool is a new property called uniform local amenability. This property is easy to negate, which we use to study some `bad' spaces. We also generalise and reprove a theorem of Nowak relating amenability and asymptotic dimension in the quantitative setting

Statistical measures for defining an individual's degree of independence within state-dependent dynamic games

BACKGROUND: For organisms living or interacting in groups, the decision-making processes of an individual may be based upon aspects of both its own state and the states of other organisms around it. Much research has sought to determine how group decisions are made, and whether some individuals are more likely to influence these decisions than others. State-dependent modelling techniques are a powerful tool for exploring group decision-making processes, but analyses conducted so far have lacked methods for identifying how dependent an individual's actions are on the rest of the group. RESULTS: Here, we introduce and evaluate two easy-to-calculate statistics that quantify how dependent an individual's actions are upon the state of a co-player in a two-player state-dependent dynamic game. We discuss the merits of these statistics, and situations in which they would be useful. CONCLUSION: Our statistical measures provide a means of quantifying how independent an individual's actions are. They also allow researchers to quantify the output of state-dependent dynamic games, and quantitatively assess the predictions of these models

Many cherished social values among Nigerian societies appear to have been eroded due to some contemporary issues and problems of the society. Hence, youths are now faced with lots of behavioural problems among which is sexual immorality that is seriously affecting their future developmental aspirations This paper therefore examined values and sexual morality among university undergraduates and how Social Studies Educators could restore the lost social values through effective teaching with a view to transforming the sexual immorality that is taking an alarming dimension among university undergraduates in Nigeria in recent times. The research adopted a descriptive research of the survey type and respondents were selected through multi-stage sampling techniques. A simple random technique was used to select three states at stage one, stratified random sampling was used to select two federal, two state and two private universities at stage two, while random sampling through the use of balloting was used to select two universities from each stratum and two hundred and sixty five students from each of the universities at the third stage. The total sample was made up of one thousand, five hundred and eighty one (1581). A self-designed instrument titled ‘Values and Sexual Morality Questionnaire’ (VASMOQ) was used for the study and data collected were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics such as Percentage Scores, Mean, Standard Deviation, Pearson Product Moment Correlation,  Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and t-test. The study found a significant relationship between peer pressure and university undergraduates’ social values, as well as undergraduates’ sexual immorality. The study concluded by suggesting among others that educators should design a programme to introduce new contents that would incorporate relevant knowledge on social values of the society as General Studies (GST) for all university undergraduates.  All hypothesis were tested at 0.05 level of significance

New Technologies: Catalysts for Business Models and Finance Function

To bridge performance gap, improve operational efficiency, enhance competitive advantage and secure corporate assets, business entities have continued to embrace new technologies with profound positive impact on their bottom-line.As new technologies replace humans through automation in the emerging business models, the demand for professionals, including chartered accountants, who are not IT-savvy is fast declining, taking with it, wages, salaries and a high percent of income taxes. These problems are compounded by the huge costs of technology acquisition and inevitable investment inhuman capacity building in the face of increasingly mobile staff.Using secondary information, the study observed that many professional accountants dread the transition from manual to automation as it would eliminate repetitive finance-related jobs in the midst of high unemployment rate in the country, dissuade new entrants into the accounting profession and alter the human side of enterprise. It therefore recommends that the training curricula of professional accountancy organisations should be rejigged and skewed towards technology while existing professional accountants should hone their IT skills to leverage technology to deliver value online, real time to their diverse stakeholders.
