En primer lugar, se expondrán algunas reflexiones sobre el carácter ontológico de la imagen y la función del arte, a partir del pensamiento de Emmanuel Lévinas y Aby Warburg. A continuación, se presentarán tres modos de representación artística de su figura: la Eva clásica del primer peronismo; la Eva revolucionaria de los movimientos juveniles montoneros; y la Eva lumpen del neobarroso latinoamericano.     Evaluation of Safety of a Newly Formulated Pirfenidone in Chronic Kidney Disease: A Non-Randomized Pilot Study in Mexican Patients

    The aim of this pilot clinical trial was to evaluate the safety of a new formulation of prolonged-release Pirfenidone (PR-PFD) in chronic kidney disease (CKD), specifically focal and segmental glomerular hyalinization (FSGH). Open-label, pilot, nonrandomized trial. Eighteen patients previously diagnosed with CKD stages 1– 5 according to “Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes” were enrolled in the study. Target dos-age of PFD was 1200 mg twice a day in the form of prolonged-release tablets to reach a full dosage of 2400 mg daily. Clinical trial was carried out for 60 months to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a newly formulated PR-PFD in patients with CKD. After the treatment for 60 months, it was found that PR-PFD kept renal function from declining significantly in CKD patients, as the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) showed only minimal variations throughout the study. Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) showed no differences at both baseline and the end points. Proteinuria improved, and creatinine, cystatin C, urea, hemoglobin and hepatic transaminases remained constant without any considerable changes across the study. Minor side effects were noticed when compared with those found in previous studies, indicating an increased tolerance to this pharmaceutical formulation of PFD. Prolonged-released PFD could be safely used as an adjuvant therapy in patients with CKD.Registry number was obtained from ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT02408744)

    Glucose consumption rate-dependent transcriptome profiling of Escherichia coli provides insight on performance as microbial factories

    peer reviewedBACKGROUND: The modification of glucose import capacity is an engineering strategy that has been shown to improve the characteristics of Escherichia coli as a microbial factory. A reduction in glucose import capacity can have a positive effect on production strain performance, however, this is not always the case. In this study, E. coli W3110 and a group of four isogenic derivative strains, harboring single or multiple deletions of genes encoding phosphoenolpyruvate:sugar phosphotransferase system (PTS)-dependent transporters as well as non-PTS transporters were characterized by determining their transcriptomic response to reduced glucose import capacity. RESULTS: These strains were grown in bioreactors with M9 mineral salts medium containing 20 g/L of glucose, where they displayed specific growth rates ranging from 0.67 to 0.27 h-1, and specific glucose consumption rates (qs) ranging from 1.78 to 0.37 g/g h. RNA-seq analysis revealed a transcriptional response consistent with carbon source limitation among all the mutant strains, involving functions related to transport and metabolism of alternate carbon sources and characterized by a decrease in genes encoding glycolytic enzymes and an increase in gluconeogenic functions. A total of 107 and 185 genes displayed positive and negative correlations with qs, respectively. Functions displaying positive correlation included energy generation, amino acid biosynthesis, and sugar import. CONCLUSION: Changes in gene expression of E. coli strains with impaired glucose import capacity could be correlated with qs values and this allowed an inference of the physiological state of each mutant. In strains with lower qs values, a gene expression pattern is consistent with energy limitation and entry into the stationary phase. This physiological state could explain why these strains display a lower capacity to produce recombinant protein, even when they show very low rates of acetate production. The comparison of the transcriptomes of the engineered strains employed as microbial factories is an effective approach for identifying favorable phenotypes with the potential to improve the synthesis of biotechnological products. © 2022.     Drainage And Sedimentary Response Of The Northern Andes And The Pebas System To Miocene Strike-slip Tectonics: A Source To Sink Study Of The Magdalena Basin

    Miocene strike-slip tectonics was responsible for creating and closing short-lived (ca. 6 Ma) passages and the emergence of isolated topography in the Northern Andes. These geological events likely influenced the migration and/or isolation of biological populations. To better understand the paleogeography of the Miocene hinterland and foreland regions in the Northern Andes, we conducted a source-to-sink approach in the Magdalena Basin. This basin is located between the Central and Eastern Cordilleras of Colombia and contains an ample Miocene record, which includes Lower Miocene fine-grained strata and Middle Miocene to Pliocene coarsening-up strata. Our study presents a new data set that includes detrital U–Pb zircon ages (15 samples), sandstone petrography (45 samples) and low-temperature thermochronology from the Southern Central Cordillera (19 dates); which together with previously published data were used to construct a paleogeographical model of the Miocene hinterland and foreland regions in the Northern Andes. The evolution of the Magdalena Basin during the Miocene was characterized by playa and permanent lake systems at ca. 17.5 Ma, which may be related to a marine incursion into NW South America and western Amazonia. The appearance of Eocene to Miocene volcanic sources in the Honda Group after ca. 16 Ma suggests the development of fluvial passages, which connected the Pacific with the western Amazonia and Caribbean regions. These passages were synchronous with a time of Miocene exhumation and topographic growth (ca. 16 to 10 Ma) in the Central Cordillera and the transition from lacustrine to fluvial deposition in the Magdalena Basin. Middle to Late Miocene strike-slip deformation promoted by oblique plate convergence and the oblique collision of the Panamá-Chocó Block likely explains the synchronous along-strike fragmentation and exhumation in the Central Cordillera

    Fluorine which is an n-type dopant of cadmium telluride thin films was included during growth from a cadmium nitrate [Cd(NO3)2Æ4H2O] bath using an electrodeposition technique. The fluorine concentration in the Cd(NO3)2Æ4H2O baths were varied between 0.5 ppm and 50 ppm in order to determine its effect on the optical, structural, morphological and electrical properties of the as-deposited and the post-growth-treated layers. These characterisations were carried out using x-ray diffraction, ultraviolet–visible spectrophotometry, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive x-rays spectroscopy, photoelectrochemical cell measurement, direct current conductivity measurement and fully fabricated device characterisation.
