Comparing High School Students\u27 and Adults\u27 Perceptions of Technology
This study compared high school studentâs perceptions of technology and technological literacy to those perceptions of the general public. Additionally, individual student groups were compared statistically to determine significant differences between the groups. The ITEA/Gallup Poll instrument was used to survey high school studentâs perceptions of technology in the study. The student population in question consisted of three subgroups: students enrolled in a standards-based technology education courses, students enrolled in a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Principles of Engineering pre-engineering course, and students enrolled in a general education course (language arts, mathematics, or science). In addition, each student groupâs perceptions of technology were compared to one another to determine differences within each group. Responses from 4 items in the ITEA/Gallup Poll showed descriptive differences between students and adults, and responses from 13 items showed a significant difference between the three student groups. Of those 13 items showing a significant difference between all three groups, 7 of the 13 items showed a significant difference between technology education and PLTW respondents, 6 of the 13 items showed a significant difference between PLTW and general education respondents, and 8 of the 13 items showed a significant difference between technology education and general education group respondents
The Impact of Cultural Symbols and Spokesperson Identity on Attitudes and Intentions
In todayâs multicultural societies, ethnic targeting is increasingly important for marketing. Two main approaches to target ethnic minorities have emerged: messaging consumers when their ethnic identity is most salient, and featuring spokespeople who have the same heritage as the target. We conduct replications of two articles representative of these research streams: Forehand and DeshpandĂ© (2001) and DeshpandĂ© and Stayman (1994). Our findings identify generational status as an important boundary condition for these ethnic targeting strategies

Spreading the Good News: Analyzing Socially Shared Inspirational News Content
Past research indicates that people often share awe-inspiring news online. However, little is known about the content of those stories. In this study, more broadly defined âinspirationalâ articles shared through The New York Times website over a 6-month period were analyzed, with the goals of describing the content and identifying characteristics that might predict inspirationality and measures of retransmission. The results provided a snapshot of content found within inspirational news stories; they also revealed that self-transcendent language use predicted the inspirationality of a news story, as well as how long an article appeared on a most shared list
Electrolysis Propulsion for Spacecraft Applications
Electrolysis propulsion has been recognized over the last several decades as a viable option to meet many satellite and spacecraft propulsion requirements. This technology, however, was never used for in-space missions. In the same time frame, water based fuel cells have flown in a number of missions. These systems have many components similar to electrolysis propulsion systems. Recent advances in component technology include: lightweight tankage, water vapor feed electrolysis, fuel cell technology, and thrust chamber materials for propulsion. Taken together, these developments make propulsion and/or power using electrolysis/fuel cell technology very attractive as separate or integrated systems. A water electrolysis propulsion testbed was constructed and tested in a joint NASA/Hamilton Standard/Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories program to demonstrate these technology developments for propulsion. The results from these testbed experiments using a I-N thruster are presented. A concept to integrate a propulsion system and a fuel cell system into a unitized spacecraft propulsion and power system is outlined
Characterizing SRAM Single Event Upset in Terms of Single and Double Node Charge Collection
A well-collapse source-injection mode for SRAM SEU is demonstrated through TCAD modeling. The recovery of the SRAM s state is shown to be based upon the resistive path from the p+-sources in the SRAM to the well. Multiple cell upset patterns for direct charge collection and the well-collapse source-injection mechanisms are then predicted and compared to recent SRAM test data
Entropic Uncertainty Relations in Quantum Physics
Uncertainty relations have become the trademark of quantum theory since they
were formulated by Bohr and Heisenberg. This review covers various
generalizations and extensions of the uncertainty relations in quantum theory
that involve the R\'enyi and the Shannon entropies. The advantages of these
entropic uncertainty relations are pointed out and their more direct connection

Rotation of planet-harbouring stars
The rotation rate of a star has important implications for the detectability,
characterisation and stability of any planets that may be orbiting it. This
chapter gives a brief overview of stellar rotation before describing the
methods used to measure the rotation periods of planet host stars, the factors
affecting the evolution of a star's rotation rate, stellar age estimates based
on rotation, and an overview of the observed trends in the rotation properties
