A flowering tree : a woman's tale
In this short paper I shall present a story about a woman, told by women in the Kannada-speaking areas of south India, hoping that you will hear even through my translation the voice of the woman-teller. Then I shall offer a reading of it for discussion and suggest in passing certain characteristics of the genre of women-centered tales.//, quotation marks removed from title to ensure alphabetical order. In a search for a shape maximizing packing fraction for two-dimensional random sequential adsorption
Random sequential adsorption (RSA) of various two dimensional objects is
studied in order to find a shape which maximizes the saturated packing
fraction. This investigation was begun in our previous paper [Cie\'sla et al.,
Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys. 17, 24376 (2015)], where the densest packing was
studied for smoothed dimers. Here this shape is compared with a smoothed
-mers, spherocylinders and ellipses. It is found that the highest packing
fraction out of the studied shapes is and is obtained for
ellipses having long-to-short axis ratio of , which is also the largest
anisotropy among the investigated shapes.Comment: 14 pages, 7 fiure
Elliptic aspects of statistical mechanics on spheres
Our earlier results on the temperature inversion properties and the
ellipticisation of the finite temperature internal energy on odd spheres are
extended to orbifold factors of odd spheres and then to other thermodynamic
quantities, in particular to the specific heat. The behaviour under modular
transformations is facilitated by the introduction of a modular covariant
derivative and it is shown that the specific heat on any odd sphere can be
expressed in terms of just three functions. It is also shown that the free

Substrate-specific function of the translocon-associated protein complex during translocation across the ER membrane
Although the transport of model proteins across the mammalian ER can be reconstituted with purified Sec61p complex, TRAM, and signal recognition particle receptor, some substrates, such as the prion protein (PrP), are inefficiently or improperly translocated using only these components. Here, we purify a factor needed for proper translocation of PrP and identify it as the translocon-associated protein (TRAP) complex. Surprisingly, TRAP also stimulates vectorial transport of many, but not all, other substrates in a manner influenced by their signal sequences. Comparative analyses of several natural signal sequences suggest that a dependence on TRAP for translocation is not due to any single physical parameter, such as hydrophobicity of the signal sequence. Instead, a functional property of the signal, efficiency of its post-targeting role in initiating substrate translocation, correlates inversely with TRAP dependence. Thus, maximal translocation independent of TRAP can only be achieved with a signal sequence, such as the one from prolactin, whose strong interaction with the translocon mediates translocon gating shortly after targeting. These results identify the TRAP complex as a functional component of the translocon and demonstrate that it acts in a substrate-specific manner to facilitate the initiation of protein translocation
Magnetic glass in Shape Memory Alloy : Ni45Co5Mn38Sn12
The first order martensitic transition in the ferromagnetic shape memory
alloy Ni45Co5Mn38Sn12 is also a magnetic transition and has a large field
induced effect. While cooling in the presence of field this first order
magnetic martensite transition is kinetically arrested. Depending on the
cooling field, a fraction of the arrested ferromagnetic austenite phase
persists down to the lowest temperature as a magnetic glassy state, similar to
the one observed in various intermetallic alloys and in half doped manganites.
A detailed investigation of this first order ferromagnetic austenite (FM-A) to
low magnetization martensite (LM-M) state transition as a function of
temperature and field has been carried out by magnetization measurements.
Extensive cooling and heating in unequal field (CHUF) measurements and a novel
field cooled protocol for isothermal MH measurements (FC-MH) are utilized to
investigate the glass like arrested states and show a reverse martensite
transition. Finally, we determine a field -temperature (HT) phase diagram of
Ni45Co5Mn38Sn12 from various magnetization measurements which brings out the
regions where thermodynamic and metastable states co-exist in the HT space
clearly depicting this system as a 'Magnetic Glass'.Comment: Magnetic field tunes kinetic arrest and CHUF shows devitrification

A uniform approximation theorem and its application to moment problems

(p,q)-Deformations and (p,q)-Vector Coherent States of the Jaynes-Cummings Model in the Rotating Wave Approximation
Classes of (p,q)-deformations of the Jaynes-Cummings model in the rotating
wave approximation are considered. Diagonalization of the Hamiltonian is
performed exactly, leading to useful spectral decompositions of a series of
relevant operators. The latter include ladder operators acting between adjacent
energy eigenstates within two separate infinite discrete towers, except for a
singleton state. These ladder operators allow for the construction of
(p,q)-deformed vector coherent states. Using (p,q)-arithmetics, explicit and
exact solutions to the associated moment problem are displayed, providing new
classes of coherent states for such models. Finally, in the limit of decoupled
spin sectors, our analysis translates into (p,q)-deformations of the
supersymmetric harmonic oscillator, such that the two supersymmetric sectors
get intertwined through the action of the ladder operators as well as in the
