This study used the Porter’s Diamond Model as the theoretical underpinning to examine the competitiveness of Kelantan paddy industry. The model examined six (6) factors that were factor conditions, demand conditions, farmers’ strategies and supporting industries, chances and government’s roles. A total of 344 farmers were involved in this study. The farmers were required to answer a set of questionnaires which were adopted and customized from previous study. Partial least Square (PLS) SmartPLS M2 Version 3.0 was used for data analysis. The result showed that only four variables were significant and able to explain the competitiveness of paddy industry in Kelantan. They were factor conditions, demand conditions supporting industries and chances

This study used the Porter’s Diamond Model as the theoretical underpinning to examine the competitiveness of paddy farming in Kelantan. Two (2) different models were used.Model 1 examined only four (4) external factors that were factor conditions, demand conditions, farmers’ strategies and supporting industries while Model 2 include both external and internal factor. The internal factors were chances and government’s roles. Survey questions from prior studies were adopted and customized to collect data.A total of 302 farmers responded to the survey.Partial least Square (PLS) SmartPLS M2 Version 3.0 was used for data analysis. In Model 1, demand conditions was not a factor for the competitiveness but in Model 2, all external factors were significant.Only government’s role (external factor) was not significant. Even these five (5) factors were significant but farmers’ strategies found to be negatively related which is not consistent with the theory

Paddy supply chain: a case of paddy industry in Kelantan / Azmahani Yaacob @ Othman, Zulkorain Yusop and Syazwani A Malek @ Abdul

The production of paddy and the supply of rice to the consumers should not be viewed as separate segments but as a series of linked segments within a supply chain model. It involved of both upstream and downstream linkages. Each linkage has different processes and activities that produce different value and form of products and services before it reaches to the final customer or consumer. The paddy supply chain in Kelantan starts with the paddy producers (farmers), to the rice millers, then to the traders who will hand it to the wholesale traders, and lastly to the final consumers. A strong linkage between actors in every stage of supply chain can guarantee a competitive production and efficient distribution of paddy and rice from farmers to the final consumers

Prediction of monthly rainfall at Senai, Johor using artificial immune system and deep learning neural network

In order to obtain good accuracy for the prediction of rainfall, this paper developed the Clonal Selection Algorithm (CSA) as a model for monthly rainfall prediction at Senai, Johor, Malaysia. CSA is one of the main algorithms in the Artificial Immune System. The results were compared with an established model for prediction which is the deep Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) algorithm. MLP is a deep learning algorithm used in the Artificial Neural Network (ANN). The algorithms were modelled using rainfall historical data with four input meteorological variables which are humidity, wind speed, pressure and temperature over the period of 1987 to 2017. The result shows that CSA obtained better prediction accuracy compared to MLP. CSA was applied successfully for the prediction of a continuous time series data with a high variable in nature
