Identification of geospatial variability of fluoride contamination in ground water of Mathura District, Uttar Pradesh, India
Groundwater is one of the major sources of water in arid and semi-arid regions. Groundwater quality data and its spatial distribution are important for the purpose of planning and management. Geo-statistical methods are one of the most advanced techniques for interpolation of groundwater quality. In this study, kriging methods were used for predicting the spatial distribution of fluoride content in groundwater. Data were collected from 13 wells in Mathura district (Uttar Pradesh, India). After normalization of data, semivariogram was drawn, for selecting suitable model for fitness on experimental semivariogram, less residual sum of squares (RSS) value was used. Then fluoride endemic areas of the Mathura District (study area) were identified from developed semivariogram model and Geospatial variability (high and low fluoride containing areas) map was generated with the help of GeographicInformation System. In the analysis, spatial distribution characteristics and variation of fluoride concentration in shallow groundwater found to be 3.4 and 4.6 mg/l at Sahar, Shahpur were higher than the standard limits (1.5 mg/l) of drinking water and shows remarkable spatial variability
Vegetation indices mapping for Bhiwani district of Haryana (India) through LANDSAT-7ETM+ and remote sensing techniques
This study describes the VIs Vegetation Condition Index in term of vegetation health of wheat crop; with help of LANDSAT-7ETM+ data based NDVI and LAI for Bhiwani District of Haryana states (India) and gave the spatial development pattern of wheat crop in year 2005 over the study area of India. NDVI is found to vary from 0.3 to 0.8. In northern and southern parts of study area NDVI varied from 0.6 to 0.7 but in western part of Bhiwani showed NDVI 0.2 to 0.4 due to fertility of soil and well canal destitution. LAI showed variation from 1 to 6 accordingto the health of crop as the same manner of NDVI because LAI VI is NDVI dependent only change the manner of representation of vegetation health, due to this fact relation curve (r2=) between NDVI and LAI of four different growing date of sates are in successively increasing order 0.509, 0.563, 0.577 and 0.719. The study reveals that VIs can be mapped with LANDSAT-7ETM+ through remote sensing, which can be further used for many studies like crop yield or estimating evaptranspiration on regional basis for water management because satellite observations provide better spatial and temporal coverage, the VIs based system will provide efficient tools for monitoring health of crop for improvement of agricultural planning. VIs based monitoring will serve as a prototype in the other parts of the world where ground observations are limited or not available
Magnetoresistance behavior of a ferromagnetic shape memory alloy: Ni_1.75Mn_1.25Ga
A negative-positive-negative switching behavior of magnetoresistance (MR)
with temperature is observed in a ferromagnetic shape memory alloy
Ni_1.75Mn_1.25Ga. In the austenitic phase between 300 and 120 K, MR is negative
due to s-d scattering. Curiously, below 120K MR is positive, while at still
lower temperatures in the martensitic phase, MR is negative again. The positive
MR cannot be explained by Lorentz contribution and is related to a magnetic
transition. Evidence for this is obtained from ab initio density functional
theory, a decrease in magnetization and resistivity upturn at 120 K. Theory
shows that a ferrimagnetic state with anti-ferromagnetic alignment between the
local magnetic moments of the Mn atoms is the energetically favoured ground
state. In the martensitic phase, there are two competing factors that govern
the MR behavior: a dominant negative trend up to the saturation field due to
the decrease of electron scattering at twin and domain boundaries; and a weaker
positive trend due to the ferrimagnetic nature of the magnetic state. MR
exhibits a hysteresis between heating and cooling that is related to the first
order nature of the martensitic phase transition.Comment: 17 pages, 5 figures. Accepted in Phys. Rev.
Coexisting tuneable fractions of glassy and equilibrium long-range-order phases in manganites
Antiferromagnetic-insulating(AF-I) and the ferromagnetic-metallic(FM-M)
phases coexist in various half-doped manganites over a range of temperature and
magnetic field, and this is often believed to be an essential ingredient to
their colossal magnetoresistence. We present magnetization and resistivity
measurements on Pr(0.5)Ca(0.5)Mn(0.975)Al(0.025)O(3) and Pr(0.5)Sr(0.5)MnO(3)
showing that the fraction of the two coexisting phases at low-temperature in
any specified measuring field H, can be continuously controlled by following
designed protocols traversing field-temperature space; for both materials the
FM-M fraction rises under similar cooling paths. Constant-field temperature
variations however show that the former sample undergoes a 1st order transition
from AF-I to FM-M with decreasing T, while the latter undergoes the reverse
transition. We suggest that the observed path-dependent phase-separated states
result from the low-T equilibrium phase coexisting with supercooled glass-like
high temperature phase, where the low-T equilibrium phases are actually
homogeneous FM-M and AF-I phases respectively for the two materials
Periodic gamma-ray emissions from Geminga at or = 10(12) eV
Analysis of data from an atmospheric Cerenkov telescope indicated the periodic emission of gamma rays of energy 10 to the 12th power eV, at 60.25 second period, from 2CG 195+4. The gamma ray flux at 99% confidence level is estimated to be 9.5 x 10 to 12 photons/sq cm/s
Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking in Presence of Electric and Magnetic Charges
Starting with the definition of quaternion gauge theory, we have undertaken
the study of SU(2)_{e}\times SU(2)_{m}\times U(1)_{e}\times U(1)_{m} in terms
of the simultaneous existence of electric and magnetic charges along with their
Yang - Mills counterparts. As such, we have developed the gauge theory in terms
of four coupling constants associated with four - gauge symmetry
SU(2)_{e}\times SU(2)_{m}\times U(1)_{e}\times U(1)_{m}. Accordingly, we have
made an attempt to obtain the abelian and non - Abelian gauge structures for
the particles carrying simultaneously the electric and magnetic charges (namely
dyons). Starting from the Lagrangian density of two SU(2)\times U(1) gauge
theories responsible for the existence of electric and magnetic charges, we
have discussed the consistent theory of spontaneous symmetry breaking and Higgs
mechanism in order to generate the masses. From the symmetry breaking, we have
generated the two electromagnetic fields, the two massive vector W^{\pm} and
Z^{0} bosons fields and the Higgs scalar fields
Conversion of glassy antiferromagnetic-insulating phase to equilibrium ferromagnetic-metallic phase by devitrification and recrystallization in Al substituted PrCaMnO
We show that PrCaMnO with 2.5% Al substitution and
LaCaMnO (LCMO) exhibit qualitatively similar and
visibly anomalous M-H curves at low temperature. Magnetic field causes a broad
first-order but irreversible antiferromagnetic (AF)-insulating (I) to
ferromagnetic (FM)-metallic (M) transition in both and gives rise to soft FM
state. However, the low temperature equilibrium state of
PrCaMnAlO (PCMAO) is FM-M whereas that
of LCMO is AF-I. In both the systems the respective equilibrium phase coexists
with the other phase with contrasting order, which is not in equilibrium, and
the cooling field can tune the fractions of the coexisting phases. It is shown
earlier that the coexisting FM-M phase behaves like `magnetic glass' in LCMO.
Here we show from specially designed measurement protocols that the AF-I phase
of PCMAO has all the characteristics of magnetic glassy states. It devitrifies
on heating and also recrystallizes to equilibrium FM-M phase after annealing.
This glass-like AF-I phase also shows similar intriguing feature observed in
FM-M magnetic glassy state of LCMO that when the starting coexisting fraction
of glass is larger, successive annealing results in larger fraction of
equilibrium phase. This similarity between two manganite systems with
contrasting magnetic orders of respective glassy and equilibrium phases points
toward a possible universality.Comment: Highlights potential of CHUF (Cooling and Heating in Unequal Fields),
