    Automated implementation of rule-based expert systems with neural networks for time-critical applications

    In fault diagnosis, control and real-time monitoring, both timing and accuracy are critical for operators or machines to reach proper solutions or appropriate actions. Expert systems are becoming more popular in the manufacturing community for dealing with such problems. In recent years, neural networks have revived and their applications have spread to many areas of science and engineering. A method of using neural networks to implement rule-based expert systems for time-critical applications is discussed here. This method can convert a given rule-based system into a neural network with fixed weights and thresholds. The rules governing the translation are presented along with some examples. We also present the results of automated machine implementation of such networks from the given rule-base. This significantly simplifies the translation process to neural network expert systems from conventional rule-based systems. Results comparing the performance of the proposed approach based on neural networks vs. the classical approach are given. The possibility of very large scale integration (VLSI) realization of such neural network expert systems is also discussed

    A graphical environment for change detection in structured documents

    Change detection in structured documents (e.g. SGML is important in data warehousing, digital libraries and Internet databases. This thesis presents a graphical environment for detecting changes in the structured documents. We represent. each document by alp ordered labeled tree based on the underlying markup language. We then compare two documents by invoking previously developed algorithms for approximate pattern matching and pattern discovery in trees. Several operators are developed to support. the comparison of the documents; graphical devices are provided to facilitate the use of the operators. We believe the proposed tool is useful for not only document management, but also software maintenance, particularly configuration management and version control, where programs aro represented as parse trees and detecting changes in the trees provides a way to find the syntactic differences of two program versions

    Generation of Werner states via collective decay of coherently driven atoms

    We show deterministic generation of Werner states as a steady state of the collective decay dynamics of a pair of neutral atom coupled to a leaky cavity and strong coherent drive.     Cavity-mediated long-range interaction for fast multiqubit quantum logic operations

    Interactions among qubits are essential for performing two-qubit quantum logic operations. However, nature gives us only nearest neighbor interactions in simple and controllable settings. Here we propose a strategy to induce interactions among two atomic entities that are not necessarily neighbors of each other through their common coupling with a cavity field. This facilitates fast multiqubit quantum logic operations through a set of two-qubit operations. The ideas presented here are applicable to various quantum computing proposals for atom based qubits such as, trapped ions, atoms trapped in optical cavities and optical lattices.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figure

    In light of Agenda 2030, sustainability awareness is steadily growing worldwide. All institutions, including banks and financial institutions, are working to reduce their carbon footprints. Several indirect problems have arisen for India as a result of the banking process, such as global warming, climate change, irregular monsoon, air pollution, heavy rain, poor air quality, health problems, ozone depletion, fossil fuel use, recurrent destruction of forests for daily use, improper e-waste disposal. These issues can be overcome with sustainable banking practices (Green banking), which benefit the customer's satisfaction and quality of life. However, sustainability can be achieved only when the customers accept green banking and are satisfied with it. In order to do that, the bank must understand the level of expectations and perception of its customers toward green initiatives and to what extent the initiatives satisfy their day-to-day needs. This paper provides an overview of Expectancy disconfirmation integrations into customer satisfaction of India's largest public sector banks. As part of the present theoretical analysis, we first examine the level of awareness, expectations, and perception differences of customers to determine their satisfaction level. We then provide some evidence from SBI in Kerala regarding dissatisfying factors in green banking practices

    New set of measures to analyze non-equilibrium structures

    We introduce a set of statistical measures that can be used to quantify non-equilibrium surface growth. They are used to deduce new information about spatiotemporal dynamics of model systems for spinodal decomposition and surface deposition. Patterns growth in the Cahn-Hilliard Equation (used to model spinodal decomposition) are shown to exhibit three distinct stages. Two models of surface growth, namely the continuous Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) model and the discrete Restricted-Solid-On-Solid (RSOS) model are shown to have different saturation exponents

    No scalpel vasectomy: a cross-sectional study of knowledge, attitude and practice of gynaecologists

    Background: In spite of no scalpel vasectomy (NSV) being cheaper and safer, female sterilisations account for the majority of sterilisations performed worldwide. Research has focussed more on the “demand” and less on the “provider” side. Gynaecologists can be front-runners for the cause of population control in India. Hence, authors decided to estimate the knowledge of gynaecologists, their attitude and prevalent practice of NSV.Methods: Cross-sectional study. Interviewer-administered questionnaire used for face-to-face data collection from gynecologists registered with the Pune Obstetric and Gynecological Society.Results: Out of 447 gynecologists, 158 (35.3%) were males and 289 (64.7%) females. Mean age was 46.3 years ± 12.1 years, (range 24-80 years). Only 14 (3.1%) were trained in performing NSV. Only a minority knew about type of anaesthesia used (1.8%) and number of accesses needed (48.1%) for NSV. Only 40.7% and 18.1% knew about time to resume sexual activity and number of ejaculations to be covered by additional contraceptives after NSV respectively. More than half [258 (57.7%)] were willing to undergo training in NSV. Among those unwilling for training, female and older gynecologists (≥40 years) significantly outnumbered male and younger gynecologists (76.5% Vs. 23.5%; p=0.000 and 78.8% Vs. 21.2% respectively; p=0.000). Majority (79.9%) referred a couple willing for NSV to surgeons or urologists or advised female sterilization (17%).Conclusions: Knowledge of gynecologists about NSV was inadequate. Minority were trained in performing NSV. Male and younger gynecologists were willing to undergo training in NSV. Most preferred practices were referring couples elsewhere or advising female sterilization
