    Arecibo Timing and Single Pulse Observations of 18 Pulsars

    We present new results of timing and single pulse measurements for 18 radio pulsars discovered in 1993 - 1997 by the Penn State/NRL declination-strip survey conducted with the 305-m Arecibo telescope at 430 MHz. Long-term timing measurements have led to significant improvements of the rotational and the astrometric parameters of these sources, including the millisecond pulsar, PSR J1709+2313, and the pulsar located within the supernova remnant S147, PSR J0538+2817. Single pulse studies of the brightest objects in the sample have revealed an unusual "bursting" pulsar, PSR J1752+2359, two new drifting subpulse pulsars, PSR J1649+2533 and PSR J2155+2813, and another example of a pulsar with profile mode changes, PSR J1746+2540. PSR J1752+2359 is characterized by bursts of emission, which appear once every 3-5 min. and decay exponentially on a ~45 sec timescale.     Public health programmes to promote mental health in young people: a systematic integrative review protocol.

    INTRODUCTION: In light of the ever-growing mental health disease burden among young people worldwide, we aim to systematically review the global literature to identify the public health programmes targeted at promoting mental health and well-being in young people, the reported/anticipated mental health-related outcomes of the implemented public health programmes and the reported facilitators and barriers in relation to the implementation of those public health programmes. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: A comprehensive literature search will be carried out in the following electronic bibliographic databases: MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, Scopus, ASSIA, Web of Science, Global Health, AMED, Health Source and The Cochrane Library. Further, a manual search of the reference lists of eligible studies and reviews will be carried out. The search strategy will include combinations of three key blocks of terms, namely: 'young people', 'mental health' and 'public health programme', using database-specific subject headings and text words. Two reviewers will independently screen, assess data quality and extract data for synthesis. Disagreements at any stage will be resolved by consensus with the involvement of a third reviewer. Given the anticipated methodological pluralism of the potential eligible studies, we will provide a narrative synthesis of the findings on public health programmes aimed at promoting the mental health and well-being of young people according to identified thematic areas. Furthermore, a narrative synthesis of the reported facilitators and barriers in relation to the implementation of public health programmes will be provided. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: Given that the review findings will be focused on understanding the breadth and depth of the global research into public health programmes to promote mental health in young people with a particular emphasis on the facilitators and barriers of programmatic implementation, the findings will be of great value to inform future interventions, programmes and approaches to promote mental health and well-being of young people worldwide.     RoboPol: First season rotations of optical polarization plane in blazars

    We present first results on polarization swings in optical emission of blazars obtained by RoboPol, a monitoring program of an unbiased sample of gamma-ray bright blazars specially designed for effective detection of such events. A possible connection of polarization swing events with periods of high activity in gamma rays is investigated using the dataset obtained during the first season of operation. It was found that the brightest gamma-ray flares tend to be located closer in time to rotation events, which may be an indication of two separate mechanisms responsible for the rotations. Blazars with detected rotations have significantly larger amplitude and faster variations of polarization angle in optical than blazars without rotations. Our simulations show that the full set of observed rotations is not a likely outcome (probability ≤1.5×10−2\le 1.5 \times 10^{-2}) of a random walk of the polarization vector simulated by a multicell model. Furthermore, it is highly unlikely (∼5×10−5\sim 5 \times 10^{-5}) that none of our rotations is physically connected with an increase in gamma-ray activity.Comment: 16 pages, 9 figure

    Survey of Planetary Nebulae at 30 GHz with OCRA-p

    We report the results of a survey of 442 planetary nebulae at 30 GHz. The purpose of the survey is to develop a list of planetary nebulae as calibration sources which could be used for high frequency calibration in future. For 41 PNe with sufficient data, we test the emission mechanisms in order to evaluate whether or not spinning dust plays an important role in their spectra at 30 GHz. The 30-GHz data were obtained with a twin-beam differencing radiometer, OCRA-p, which is in operation on the Torun 32-m telescope. Sources were scanned both in right ascension and declination. We estimated flux densities at 30 GHz using a free-free emission model and compared it with our data. The primary result is a catalogue containing the flux densities of 93 planetary nebulae at 30 GHz. Sources with sufficient data were compared with a spectral model of free-free emission. The model shows that free-free emission can generally explain the observed flux densities at 30 GHz thus no other emission mechanism is needed to account for the high frequency spectra.Comment: 10 pages, 7 Postscript figures, to be published in A&
