Neurospora crassa Light Signal Transduction Is Affected by ROS

    Get PDF
In the ascomycete fungus Neurospora crassa blue-violet light controls the expression of genes responsible for differentiation of reproductive structures, synthesis of secondary metabolites, and the circadian oscillator activity. A major photoreceptor in Neurospora cells is WCC, a heterodimeric complex formed by the PAS-domain-containing polypeptides WC-1 and WC-2, the products of genes white collar-1 and white collar-2. The photosignal transduction is started by photochemical activity of an excited FAD molecule noncovalently bound by the LOV domain (a specialized variant of the PAS domain). The presence of zinc fingers (the GATA-recognizing sequences) in both WC-1 and WC-2 proteins suggests that they might function as transcription factors. However, a critical analysis of the phototransduction mechanism considers the existence of residual light responses upon absence of WCC or its homologs in fungi. The data presented point at endogenous ROS generated by a photon stimulus as an alternative input to pass on light signals to downstream targets

Complexation of aromatic drugs with single-walled carbon nanotubes

We report a detailed study of the complexation of aromatic molecules and drugs with the surface of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs, the diameter and the length ranges are 0.5-2 nm and 1-5 μm, respectively) in terms of equilibrium binding constants, K. It is found that the binding constants have magnitudes of the order of 104-105 M-1 and that there is some ligand specificity to the SWCNT surface depending on the structure of the aromatic molecul

    Voltammetric Determination of Aflatoxin B1

    Get PDF
For the first time the possibility of voltammetry used for the determination of aflatoxin B1 on a glassy carbon electrode was shown. The effect of pH of a supporting electrolyte on the analytical signal of aflatoxin B1 has been investigated and it was shown that there is a more pronounced peak with a maximum current at pH of 5.33. The most favorable supporting electrolyte for a linear range of detectable concentrations of aflatoxin B1 – 0.1 M (NH[4])[2]SO[4] was determined. The results of research on the development of conditions of voltammetric measurement of aflatoxin B1 are presented

STUDY INTENSIVE GROWTH OF RADISH DEPENDING ON THE RECEIVED IONIZING RADIATION DOSE

In order to study the dependence of radish growth intensity from ionizing radiation dose there were used different types of ionizing radiation: gamma rays, accelerated electrons, neutrons of intermediate energies. The experiment was carried out under the influence of ionizing radiation dose to 2 kGy. The experimental results are consistent with literature data

Professional competencies development of competitive bachelors in machine engineering

The significance of the problem being investigated is conditioned by the need of introduction of considerable amendments to academic discipline content with the objective of ensuring effective education process and professional competencies development level increase of bachelors in machine engineering necessary in their professional activities while performing employment functions. The purpose of the article involves structural-functional model development of forming bachelors’ professional competencies towards “Machine Engineering” qualifications in studies of qualified educational subjects, and also identifying a set of organizational-educational conditions of its successful implementation. The key method of the given problem analysis is meant to be model analysis which enables to study the matter point of this problem in great detail. The fundamental result of the article is a generated structural functional model of professional competencies forming, including information-packed, assignment, and evaluative units in its structure and being implemented with respect to organizational-educational conditions. The content of the article may prove helpful for faculty members of technical institutions for the purposes of high quality vocational training implementation which meets unit standard requirements of machine-building complex enterprises. © 2016 Dorozhkin et al

Voltammetric estimation of the content of antibiotics in veterinary preparations

    Get PDF
The voltammetric method for determination of tylosin tartrate, gentamicin sulfate, and cefalexin in veterinary preparations was for the first time developed. Electrochemical behavior of these antibiotics on the mercury film electrode was studied, and the working conditions (background electrolyte, deposition potential) were defined for getting analytical signals using the voltammetr

Serotonin Application Effects on Electrical Characteristics of the Premotor Interneurons in Intact and Trained Snails

    Get PDF
© 2016, Springer Science+Business Media New York.Experimentally, it was shown that the action potential threshold in neurons of the trained snails increases in response to serotonin (5-HT) application, in contrast to intact snails. This result demonstrates a decrease of excitability of the premotor interneurons in response to extracellular 5-HT after the training
