    Le champ filonien à Zn-(Pb, Cu, As, Hg) du district minier de Fedj Hassène (Nord Ouest de la Tunisie): Minéralogie, Eléments en traces, Isotopes du Soufre et Inclusions Fluides

    Le district minier de Fedj Hassène est situé à proximité de la frontière algéro-tunisienne, à 10 Km au sud de la ville de Ghardimaou. Il regroupe plusieurs filons à Pb-Zn, localement accompagnés par des sulfures de Cu, d'As et d'Hg. Les réserves sont estimées à 370.000 t à 10% de Zn et 0,2% de Pb. Les minéralisations remplissent des fractures subparallèles à la faille d'Ain Kohla de direction ESEWNW et des fentes d'extension qui recoupent les calcaires marneux du Turonien moyen. Le filon principal est formé par de la sphalérite massive brune et accessoirement par de la galène et de la barytine. Le minerai peut se présenter sous forme massive ou sous la forme de ciment de brèche. L'association minérale est composée par de la sphalérite, galène, chalcopyrite, pyrite et orpiment. La gangue est formée par de la calcite massive et localement par de la barytine et du quartz. L'analyse des éléments en trace dans la sphalérite révèle des teneurs en poids de 0,84% Fe, 0,14% Cd et 0,02% Mn. L'étude des inclusions fluides dans la calcite et la sphalérite montre l'existence d'un fluide caractérisé par une salinité de l'ordre de 23% poids équiv. NaCl à température décroissante lors de la mise en place des minéralisations (194 °C lors du dépôt de la calcite et 133 °C lors du dépôt de la sphalérite). Ce fluide est caractérisé par une densité comprise entre 1,00 g/cm3 et 1,11 g/cm3 avec une pression de piégeage estimée de 200 bars. La précipitation des sulfures parait être contrôlée par une chute de la température. Les mesures des isotopes du soufre dans la sphalérite donnent des valeurs de δ34S toutes positives et variant dans une gamme très restreinte comprise entre + 4,6‰ et 6,4‰ VCDT (moyenne=5,6‰). Ces valeurs indiquent une origine commune du soufre réduit qui est formé par les processus de ré duction thermique de sulfates. La source des sulfates admet les évaporites triasiques de la région comme reservoir potentiel. Les études géologiques et minéralogiques couplées à la microthermométrie des inclusions fluides et la géochimie des éléments en traces et des isotopes du soufre permettent de classer le gisement filonien de Fedj Hassène dans le groupe des gisements polymétalliques (Pb-Zn-As, Hg) typiques de la zone des nappes de la Tunisie du Nord et de l'Algérie nord-orientale

    The El Aouana igneous rocks are part of the Miocene magmatic suite that extends from Northern Tunisia to Morocco through the Algerian coast in the Maghrebin chain. These rocks are composed of volcanic (andesites and dacites) and subvolcanic (micodiorites and microgranodiorites) lithologies that intruded both the Cretaceous and Oligo-Miocene nappes, and the Miocene post-nappe sediments. The andesites are composed of plagioclase, amphibole and pyroxene phenocrysts that are set in a microlithic groundmass. The dacites are plagioclase-rich and rare, highly altered ferromagnesian minerals. The microdiorites and microgranodiorites are hornblende-bea- ring rocks with plagioclase, pyroxene and rare biotite phenocrysts that are set in a microcrystalline groundmass. Geochemical observations show that the rocks are calc-alkaline with I-type affinity. They are enriched in large ion lithophile elements (LILE) and light rare earth elements (LREE) compared to high field strength elements (HFSE) and heavy rare earth elements (HREE). The negative Nb, P and Ti anomalies observed on the multi-element patterns are imprints of magmas originated from subduction zones. Field, petrological and geochemical investi- gations show that the El Aouana Miocene igneous rocks are emplaced in a post-collisionnal setting. These rocks show similarities with the metaluminous, post-collisionnel granitoids of north-eastern Algeria which are thought to have been derived from a metasomatized mantle source as a consequence of ‘slab break-off’ underneath the North African margin

    Multi-fidelity efficient global optimization : Methodology and application to airfoil shape design

    Predictions and design engineering decisions can be made using a variety of informa- tion sources that range from experimental data to computer models. These information sources could consist of different mathematical formulations, different grid resolutions, dif- ferent physics, or different modeling assumptions that simplify the problem. This leads to information sources with varying degrees of fidelity, each with an associated accuracy and querying cost. In this paper, we propose a novel and flexible way to use multi-fidelity informa- tion sources optimally in the context of airfoil shape optimization using both Xfoil and ADflow. The new developments are based on Bayesian optimization and kriging metamodeling and allow the aerodynamic optimization to be sped up. In a constrained optimization example with 15-design variables problem, the proposed approach reduces the total cost by a factor of two compared to a single Bayesian based fidelity optimization and by a factor of 1.5 compared to sequential quadratic programming

    A Python surrogate modeling framework with derivatives

    The surrogate modeling toolbox (SMT) is an open-source Python package that contains a collection of surrogate modeling methods, sampling techniques, and benchmarking functions. This package provides a library of surrogate models that is simple to use and facilitates the implementation of additional methods. SMT is different from existing surrogate modeling libraries because of its emphasis on derivatives, including training derivatives used for gradient-enhanced modeling, prediction derivatives, and derivatives with respect to training data. It also includes unique surrogate models: kriging by partial least-squares reduction, which scales well with the number of inputs; and energy- minimizing spline interpolation, which scales well with the number of training points. The efficiency and effectiveness of SMT are demonstrated through a series of examples. SMT is documented using custom tools for embedding automatically tested code and dynamically generated plots to produce high-quality user guides with minimal effort from contributors. SMT is maintained in a public version control repository

    Polar extracts from (Tunisian) Acacia salicina Lindl. Study of the antimicrobial and antigenotoxic activities

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Methanolic, aqueous and Total Oligomer Flavonoids (TOF)-enriched extracts obtained from the leaves of <it>Acacia salicina </it>'Lindl.' were investigated for antibacterial, antimutagenic and antioxidant activities.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>The antimicrobial activity was tested on the Gram positive and Gram negative reference bacterial strains. The Mutagenic and antimutagenic activities against direct acting mutagens, methylmethane sulfonate (MMS) and 4-nitro-o-phenylenediamine (NOPD), and indirect acting mutagens, 2-aminoanthracene (2-AA) and benzo[a]pyrene (B(a)P) were performed with <it>S. typhimurium </it>TA102 and TA98 assay systems. In addition, the enzymatic and nonenzymatic methods were employed to evaluate the anti-oxidative effects of the tested extracts.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>A significant effect against the Gram positive and Gram negative reference bacterial strains was observed with all the extracts. The mutagenic and antimutagenic studies revealed that all the extracts decreased the mutagenicity induced by B(a)P (7.5 μg/plate), 2-AA (5 μg/plate), MMS (1.3 mg/plate) and NOPD (10 μg/plate). Likewise, all the extracts showed an important free radical scavenging activity towards the superoxide anion generated by the xanthine/xanthine oxidase assay system, as well as high Trolox Equivalent Antioxidant Capacity (TEAC), against the 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt (ABTS)<sup>+</sup>• radical. TOF-enriched extract exhibited the highest protective effect against free radicals, direct acting-mutagen and metabolically activated S9-dependent mutagens.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The present study indicates that the extracts from <it>A. salicina </it>leaves are a significant source of compounds with the antimutagenic and antioxidant activities, and this may be useful for developing potential chemopreventive substances.</p

    Applications of Polynomial Chaos-Based Cokriging to Aerodynamic Design Optimization Benchmark Problems

    In this work, the polynomial chaos-based Cokriging (PC-Cokriging) is applied to a benchmark aerodynamic design optimization problem. The aim is to perform fast design optimization using this multifidelity metamodel. Multifidelity metamodels use information at multiple levels of fidelity to make accurate and fast predictions. Higher amount of lower fidelity data can provide important information on the trends to a limited amount of high-fidelity (HF) data. The PC-Cokriging metamodel is a multivariate version of the polynomial chaos-based Kriging (PC-Kriging) metamodel and its construction is similar to Cokriging. It combines the advantages of the interpolation-based Kriging metamodel and the regression-based polynomial chaos expansions (PCE). In the work the PC-Cokriging model is compared to other metamodels namely PCE, Kriging, PC-Kriging and Cokriging. These metamodel are first compared in terms of global accuracy, measured by root mean squared error (RMSE) and normalized RMSE (NRMSE) for different sample sets, each with an increasing number of HF samples. These metamodels are then used to find the optimum. Once the optimum design is found computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations are rerun and the results are compared to each other. In this study a drag reduction of 73.1 counts was achieved. The multifidelity metamodels required 19 HF samples along with 1,055 low-fidelity to converge to the optimum drag value of 129 counts, while the single fidelity models required 155 HF samples to do the same

    PPARγ Controls Dectin-1 Expression Required for Host Antifungal Defense against Candida albicans

    We recently showed that IL-13 or peroxisome proliferator activated receptor γ (PPARγ) ligands attenuate Candida albicans colonization of the gastrointestinal tract. Here, using a macrophage-specific Dectin-1 deficient mice model, we demonstrate that Dectin-1 is essential to control fungal gastrointestinal infection by PPARγ ligands. We also show that the phagocytosis of yeast and the release of reactive oxygen intermediates in response to Candida albicans challenge are impaired in macrophages from Dectin-1 deficient mice treated with PPARγ ligands or IL-13. Although the Mannose Receptor is not sufficient to trigger antifungal functions during the alternative activation of macrophages, our data establish the involvement of the Mannose Receptor in the initial recognition of non-opsonized Candida albicans by macrophages. We also demonstrate for the first time that the modulation of Dectin-1 expression by IL-13 involves the PPARγ signaling pathway. These findings are consistent with a crucial role for PPARγ in the alternative activation of macrophages by Th2 cytokines. Altogether these data suggest that PPARγ ligands may be of therapeutic value in esophageal and gastrointestinal candidiasis in patients severely immunocompromised or with metabolic diseases in whom the prevalence of candidiasis is considerable
