    Mass media is considered the fourth pillar in the enforcement of democracy in a country. Freedom in the delivery of information is desirable, as well as the information which is very responsible responsible for the dissemination of such information. Since the presence of new media, in various forms, especially social media greatly impact on users. However, the use and dissemination of information through media that can be freely biased is not yet biased to provide a high trust and even hoax information. This paper was written to examine the use of mass media and social media among students of communication in obtaining various information. Most of the communication students are more confident in mass media in getting information because the information reviewed in mass media is more accurate. But in the use of social media is used to build a more intimate relationship, and make social medias like whatsapp as lecture discussion group, school alumni group, organization group, business building group and others. But the tendency of communication students today more information through social media than the mass media. And even more often they read the information through social media rather than the mass media that is already rare for them

    Consumers’ Satisfaction Towards Recreational Facilities and Services in Ayer Keroh Forest Recreational Area, Melaka

    With the present emphasis on ecotourism, many nature and recreational areas are facing increases in demand. As a result more pressures are being inflicted on the forest recreational areas and other natural areas to provide recreational facilities to users. Facilities in the park are essential to satisfy the needs of visitors; an inadequate provision of facilities and services rendered could lead to congestion and overuse of the facilities; and a lack in services may lessen visitors’ satisfaction. The study was carried out in Ayer Keroh Forest Recreation Area using a sample of 385 visitors. The main aim of this study was to determine and evaluate the visitors’ satisfaction towards the facilities and services provided. Leisure is the most popular past time activity, particularly, among the Malay visitors compared to other ethnic groups. They come in groups, either with family members or friends for picnic which was their main purpose of visits. The visitors find that existing public amenities very satisfactory and suitable for family activities. The mean value of the WTP is RM 21.45 per year. The total index of the perception on facilities and services is at 2.88 which mean is positive perception. There are four predictors of recreation valuation namely amount spend for the facilities and services, perception on sign facilities, participate in recreation activities and income and the result shows that respondents income have significantly influenced the WTP

    The Role of Zakat in Islamic Banking Institutions in Developing the Economyof the Poorand Needy in Malaysia

    Objective: Based on the report of the Malaysian Zakat Management, business Zakat records among the highest collection from the total Zakat collection. Islamic banking insitutions in Malaysia serves as the main contributor to business Zakat . In Malaysia, there are 17 banks doing trade and investment based on Syariah. Therefore, this article will examine the role of business Zakat in Malaysian Islamic banking institutions in developing the economy of the poor.Methods: This study uses the library study method. Among the reading materials that have been referred include those materials related to the poor, the policy approach formed from selected banks namely Bank A and Bank B, the statistical report of the Islamic banking institutions Zakat , websites on the background of the bank sample and so on.Results: As a general guideline in building a framework, through Zakat distribution management in Islamic banking institutions method which is in terms of the policy and regulations. Beside that, this research also focuses on the Islamic banking institutions concern in helping the poor and needy to enhance their lives and also the forms of assistance given to them.Conclusion: It is hoped that this study will be able to become a platform in the brainstorming of several ideas as to ensure that the Zakat management in Malaysian Islamic banking institutions to become better-arranged and effective other than making sure that the Zakat money given to those who deserve them can really achieve the goals that have been determined in Islam

    Drying and Milling Cost Functions of Paddy: Empirical Estimates for Government Processing Complexes in Malaysia

    In this paper, the statistical cost function approach was used to model the drying and milling cost for government paddy/rice processing complexes in Malaysia. The quadratic and inverse cost [unctions were estimated. The results suggest that there exists cost economies at relatively high output levels for both the drying and milling operations. Examination of output data indicates that a large number of government paddy mills operate at low outputs, with cost economies unexploited

    An Assessment of Customer's Preferences on the Selection of Takaful Over Conventional: a Case of Saudi Arabia

    This paper aims at assessing the motivational factors that influence the customer's preferences of Takaful over conventional insurance. The customers' information about the Takaful products and services based on sharia are identified in order to enable them differentiate Takaful and conventional insurance. The research uses mixed method of data collection. This comprises of questionnaires and in-depth interviews with the respondents from four selected Takaful industries in Saudi Arabia. The questionnaires were analysed using simple percentages and for the interviews, thematic analyses were used. Based on the findings of the study, the customer's preferences on the selection of Takaful over conventional insurance include protection of Takaful product by sharia, support from the government. Similarly, the absence of risk incurred or transferred to participants, funds contributed in the spirit of brotherhood for all members. Moreover, another customer's preferences is that contributions (tabarru') are invested in non-interest based capitalization by the Takaful agents and profits are shared according to individual contributions. Based on Takaful, donations are established at the pooling system in line with sharia and they are formed on the bases of sympathy, consciousness of the idea of tabarru' as well as abstaining from gharar, maysir and riba

    The Role of Mentoring Program in Enhancing Mentees’ Academic Performance

    According to institutions of higher learning literature, mentoring program has two important features: communication and support. The ability of mentors to appropriately implement comfortable communication and provide adequate support may ehance positive mentee outcomes, especially academic performance. Although the nature of this relationship is crucial, little is known about the role of mentoring program as an important predictor of mentees’ academic performance in the higher education mentoring research literature. Therefore, this study was conducted to measure the relationship between mentoring program and mentees’ academic performance using self-administered questionnaires gathered from undergraduate students in Malaysian institutions of higher learning in Sarawak. The results of SmartPLS path model showed two important outcomes: firstly, communication positively and significantly correlated with academic performance. Secondly, support positively and significantly correlated with academic performance. The result demonstrates that mentoring program does act as an important predictor of mentees’ academic performance in the organizational sample. Thus, discussion, implications and conclusion are elaborated
