The study evaluated the variety and digestibility of forages fed to sacrificial-goats in Mataram. The study was carried out by direct observation method. A total of 20 points vendors selling sacrificial goats were used as sampling locations. From all stall selling point, all types of forage as feed were collected. The collected feed samples were identified and tested for digestibility. The results showed that Turi (Sesbania glandiflora) leaves had the highest Dry Matter Digestibility (DMD), which was 65.54%, compared to the DMD of other forage samples, while the lowest DMD was obtained of Gayam (Inocarpus fagifer) leaves, which was 24.86% (P<0.05). As with the DMD value, the highest organic matter digestibility (OMD) was by Turi (61.08%) and the lowest OMD obtain by Gayam which had an OMD value of 11.85% (P<0.05). The OMD of Waru leaves (48.68%) was not different but does not show any difference of Ketapang (Terminalia catappa) leaves (44.73%). It was concluded that among the ten forages offered by vendor to sacrificial-goats; by order of their digestibility, Turi (Sesbania glandiflora), Waru, (Hibiscus tiliaceus), and Ketapang (Terminalia catappa) leaves produced the highest DMD and OMD

As an effort to improve the knowledge and skills of rural breeders, community service activities have been carried out with the topic "Training on Feed Processing from Agricultural Waste in Moyo Mekar Village of Moyo Hilir Sumbawa." This service activity was held on the grounds that breeders in Moyo Mekar Village often experience difficulties to meet the needs of their livestock for forage, especially during the dry season, so this sometimes has an unwanted negative impact, such as the occurrence of cases of death and disease in livestock as a result of the declining condition of the livestock. This is due to the ignorance of the breeders in their efforts to overcome the shortage of forage during the dry season. This community service activity has been carried out using three methods, namely lecture, written and demonstration methods. With the lecture method, it was conveyed about the understanding and explanation of how to preserve and treat agricultural waste. Through the written method, it is conveyed by giving brochures to the breeder members. Meanwhile, with the demonstration method, the breeders directly practice ways of preserving and treating agricultural waste. Based on the results of monitoring during the activity, the results of questions and answers and the enthusiasm of the participants, it was seen that the new breeders realized how important the role of nutrition was for livestock, the availability of applying preservation and feed processing technology, and it could also be seen that they had no difficulty in adopting the material provided, then Overall this activity can be said to be quite successful. Recognizing the limitations of the breeders in terms of preservation and processing of feed which is an alternative for providing feed in the dry season, it is suggested that this kind of activity should be continued so that the expected livestock production can be achieved.

Feed is an absolute necessity that must be guaranteed in the maintenance of ruminants but its availability is always a problem during the dry season so that a fresh forage is difficult to obtain and only agricultural waste in the form of straw is available. One of widely used by farmers, especially in Lombok region, is corn straw. This research aims to evaluate the nutritional content of corn straw that has been ammoniated using urea. This study used corn straw and urea for the ammoniation process with a complete randomized design (CRD) design consisting of 4 treatments and 4 replications, namely T1= corn straw without ammoniation (control), T2= corn straw ammoniated with a dose of 2% urea, T3= corn straw ammoniated with a dose of 4% urea and T4= corn straw ammoniated with a dose of 6% urea. The variables measured were dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM) and crude protein (CP). The results showed that urea used in the ammoniation process of corn straw showed a significant effect (P<0.05) on increasing the content of DM, OM and CP with results ranging from 21.02% - 23.98% for DM content, 88.13% - 91.07% for OM content and 13.53% - 23.81% for CP content. It was concluded that the best dose of urea for ammoniation of corn straw was treatment T4 with a dose of 6% urea with the results of the content of 23.98% DM; 89.94% OM and 23.81% CP, respectively

Until recently, cattle meat is believed as a dominant source of red meat that fulfills the market demands of Indonesia’s consumers. Meat demands tend to increase in the future caused by the increase income of human beings. As a consequence, the population of cattle tends to decrease and their role as meat producer should be in part or fully overcome and substituted by other ruminant livestock. Buffalo is one of the native ruminant livestock breeds of Indonesia that nutritionally and physiologically is not so different from cattle. This animal may be suitable and affordable to enhance the meat production. However, the present progress of buffalo population is not as good as cattle. This may be to some extent, related to the governmental policy that never lists it for a long time, as a high priority program in livestock development. Beside this constraint, buffalo has some strength to be optimized by improving its genetic potentiality and environmental related aspects. This paper deals with the effort of improving the nutrition and feed availability of buffalo with special focus on the applied feed technology. In the future, this approach will hopefully accelerate the buffalo population rate.   Key words: Buffalo, feed technology, forage, red meat, milk, nutrition, livestock farmin
