    An Evaluation Model of Quantitative and Qualitative Fuzzy Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Approach for Location Selection of Transshipment Ports

    The role of container logistics centre as home bases for merchandise transportation has become increasingly important. The container carriers need to select a suitable centre location of transshipment port to meet the requirements of container shipping logistics. In the light of this, the main purpose of this paper is to develop a fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) model to evaluate the best selection of transshipment ports for container carriers. At first, some concepts and methods used to develop the proposed model are briefly introduced. The performance values of quantitative and qualitative subcriteria are discussed to evaluate the fuzzy ratings. Then, the ideal and anti-ideal concepts and the modified distance measure method are used in the proposed model. Finally, a step-by-step example is illustrated to study the computational process of the quantitative and qualitative fuzzy MCDM model. The proposed approach has successfully accomplished our goal. In addition, the proposed fuzzy MCDM model can be empirically employed to select the best location of transshipment port for container carriers in the future study

    Water Management Strategies on Campus: An integrated approach

    Water resource management strategies at National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) are orientated towards water conservation, efficient water use and wastewater reuse. Ground water is the main water source on the university campus and the affiliated Tajen and Baoli experimental forest farms. To promote ground water collection from surface runoff water, permeable pavement, and multiple ponds have been installed. To achieve efficient water use, less efficient appliances have incrementally been replaced by more water-efficient ones. This has proven to be a feasible and effective way to achieve goals without bringing about inconveniences to campus users. Drought-tolerant trees have been planted and drip irrigation systems utilized on campus farms to save water. Our water reuse strategies aim to achieve a fully-recycling, zero emission water treatment system. Treated domestic sewage, swimming pool water and harvested rainwater are reused for flushing toilets or watering plants. Many facilities on campus, such as the Laifu Garden, Jingsi Lake, Green Park, Yingxia Lake, and Tajen Forest Farm, are more than just beautiful scenic spots; they all play major parts in the circular water ecosystem.Keyword: Water management, water conservation, water recycling, wastewater treatmen

    The Literature Review of Technology Acceptance Model: A Study of the Bibliometric Distributions

    Technology acceptance model plays a signified issue in the information systems field since this theory was introduced by Davis in 1989. This paper investigates the features of technology acceptance model literature based on bibliometric method. By searching the ISI Web of knowledge database under the keyword of “technology acceptance model,” 689 articles were retrieved and analyzed though growth of the literatures and citation, document type, publication countries, subject area, keyword analysis are addressed. The distribution of journal paper was also examined using Bradford’s law and Lotka’s law. As the result, this research found that technology acceptance model literature has a steady growth as well as the citations. Relevant articles were concentrating on computer science, information systems, management, information science, and library science. The author productivity distribution data in technology acceptance literature was consistent with Lotka’s law. Furthermore, eight core journals were identified utilizing the Bradford’s law

    An Analysis of Tzu Chi’s Public Communication Campaign on Body Donation

    Since the 1996 establishment of the Tzu Chi Body Donation Center, located at the Medical School of Tzu Chi University, campaigning for body donation has become one of Tzu Chi’s on-going endeavors. By 2004, the Center has successfully secured more than 430 bodies and more than 14,000 pledges that outnumber all other medical schools in Taiwan. Why is it that the campaign messages could draw such an overwhelming response from the public, especially since the use of one’s body after death is taboo in traditional Chinese belief? It is the purpose of this paper to examine the communication efforts of Tzu Chi’s body donation campaign. In order to achieve this goal, McGuire’s (2001) public communication model is used as the basis of the analysis in this study, which includes five components: (1) source, (2) message, (3) channel, (4) audience, and (5) destination.
