Reducing bubbles in glass coatings improves electrical breakdown strength

    Get PDF
Helium reduces bubbles in glass coatings of accelerator grids for ion thrustors. Fusing the coating in a helium atmosphere creates helium bubbles in the glass. In an argon atmosphere, entrapped helium diffuses out of the glass and the bubbles collapse. The resultant coating has a substantially enhanced electrical breakdown strength

In this study, we investigate the determinants of banking profitability related to their financial statements. One of the major aim of financial systems is to make stability over the financial companies. Well known financial companies are Banks. If Banks make more profitable works, it can provide better effect to sector as an efficiency. The profitability of banks are more important for financial systems. Because of a lot of factors may affect to the banks as a widely way. Some researchers may emphasize banks earnings how it can improve which internal and external forces. Main studies are focused on banks financial statements. Therefore it is important how can we analyse their financial statements for evaluating profitability. With this current emphasis on financial statements are very important to both managing future and making new decision to guide. In Turkey, during from 2002 to 2012 period, bank’s profitability approaches has been changed to new phenomenon. Because of regulative decisions and competitive market has to change profitability of banking sectors. Therefore banking sector profitability are substantial for Turkey which to understand the determinants of all types of banks. On the other hand, financial atmosphere give priority to above changes for evaluating their performances. Therefore many studies were analysed profitability with various methods like ratio analyses, predicting regression model, simulation methods and etc. Some learning from expert’s experiences are rely on use of panel comparison with others about same historical infrastructure. In this study we examines types of banks as follows: 3 banks in state-owned banks, 12 banks in Private banks, 6 banks in foreign banks which has a branches in Turkey. In total 21 banks and 3 types analyses with cross-sectional panel data method during the from 2002 to 2012 period. In this study, we obtained data from Income Statements and Balance Sheets. As a result of panel data regression are statistically significant which Interest Income / Total Income and Consumer Loan/Total Loan are highly important to estimate ROE than estimating ROA

On Schwarzschild Black Hole in Large N Matrix theory

    Get PDF
D0-brane gas picture of Schwarzschild black hole (SBH) is considered in the large N regime of Matrix theory. An entropy formula, which reproduces the thermodynamics of SBH in the large N limit for all dimensions (D≥6D\geq 6), is proposed. The equations of states for low temperature are obtained. We also give a proof of the Newton gravitation law between two SBHs, whose masses are not equal. Our result in some extent supports that the physics of Matrix theory is Lorentz invariant.Comment: 9 pages, no figure;minor changes, reference adde

Series transistors isolate amplifier from flyback voltage

    Get PDF
Circuit enables high sawtooth currents to be passed through a deflection coil and isolate the coil driving amplifier from the flyback voltage. It incorporates a switch consisting of transistors in series with the driving amplifier and deflection coil. The switch disconnects the deflection coil from the amplifier during the retrace time

    Geophysics and the great escape

    Get PDF
In August 2011, the Centre for Battlefield Archaeology at the University of Glasgow undertook excavations at the prisoner of war camp of Stalag Luft III at Zagań, Poland. This was the site of the famous “Great Escape” in March 1944, when 76 officers escaped the camp through Harry, one of four tunnels dug by the prisoners during their incarceration. Of the escapers, 73 were recaptured and 50 of them were executed by the Gestapo, and the camp stands as a memorial to them. The tunnels are an important part of the memorial, testifying to the ingenuity and superhuman effort made by the prisoners in their attempt to escape and disrupt the German war machine

The effect of financing and non-financing income on Islamic banks’ risk : evidence from Gulf Cooperation Council Countries

    Get PDF
Purpose: This study investigates the effect of income structure on Islamic banks’ risk in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The main objective was to investigate whether a great reliance on non-financing income, and different types of non-financing income (Fees and Commission, Trading Income, and Other Income) impacts the riskiness of Islamic banks. Design/Methodology/Approach: A panel dataset of 16 Islamic banks from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait during the period 2010 to 2016 were used to achieve the objectives of this study. Findings: The study found evidence that Islamic banks’ risks are decreased and stability is improved by non-financing income. In addition, the study found that components of nonfinancing income have different impacts on Islamic banks’ risk, where trading income and other income have decreased the Islamic banks’ risk. Islamic banks are found to be more focused on financing activities than non-financing activities (innovative activities). Practical Implications: These findings have important practical implications to Islamic banks in order to deal with non-financing income to boost their growth worldwide. Moreover, these findings have important implications for Islamic banks’ management. Originality/value: Testing the effect of income structure in the banking industry is still relatively needed. Furthermore, the Islamic banks literature has been largely ignored.peer-reviewe

    Electromagnetic flow rate meter

A liquid metal, whose flow rate is to be determined, is directed through a chamber made of electrically-insulating material on which there is impressed a magnetic field perpendicular to the direction of flow of the liquid metal. The magnetic field is made to increase in strength in a downstream direction of the flow of liquid metal. At least a pair of electrodes are disposed in the chamber traversely and perpendicular to the direction of flow and an ammeter is connected between the electrodes. Electrodes may be disposed in the top or the bottom of the chamber and each may be segmented. Oppositely disposed electrodes may be used with at least one dividing wall extending from each electrode to cause reversal of the direction of flow of the liquid metal. The magnetic field may be provided by electromagnets or permanent magnets such as shaded pole permanent magnets
