Exchange of Protein between Plasma and Ascites in the Inferior Vena Cava occluded Rabbits.
Disappearance from plasma and appearance in ascItes
of T •1824 in the :nferior vena cava occluded rabbits
were studied. 7 rabbits aB control and 11 rabbits as
experimental group were studied. Ascites of about 80ml
was produced about 10 days after partial occlusion (융
of natural diameter) of the inferior vena cava in the
thorax. The following observations were made
1. Disappearance curve from plasma was consisted
of two parts. e.g.. rapidly disappεaring and slowly disappearing
parts
2. The rapidly disappearing part lasted up to 1.5 hour

-Duk Gyung Choi: Exchange of Protein between Plasma and Ascites in the Inferior Vena Cava occluded Rabbitsr
after infusion of T-1824. Disappearance rate~in experimental
group was significantly greater than ·in normal
control group.
3. Per cent of T-1824 remaining in the circulation in
control group was 81.9% at 1 hour , 66.5% at 2 hour ,
after infusion. The value in experimental group was
69.6% at 1 hour and 49.8% at 2 hour.
4. The equilibration time of exchange of T-1824
between plasma and ascites was 6-7 hours.
5. There was a decrease in total plasma protein in
experimental group accompanied by a decrease in A/G
ratio. This decrease was due to the decrease in plasma
albumin. Albumin value was 3.95 gm/dl in normal and
3.09 gm/dl in experimental group.
6. Plasma sodium was decreased in experimental
group. In normal rabbits sodium concentration was
160.8 mEq/l and 150.0 mEq/l in ascitic rabbits.
7. Histological change of liver was cirrhotic.
8. Computation was made that about 80 ml of Ascites
was accumulated in the inferior vena cava occluded
rabbits
Cardiac Output and its Fractional Distribution in the Thoracic Vena Cava Inferior occluded Rabbits
The effect of partial occlusion of thoracic vena cava
inferior to 융 of its natural diameter on radio-iodinated
serum albumin (RISA) dilution curve, Cardiac
output, uptake of RISA by various organs, organ blood
flow in rabbits were observed. 14 rabbits served as
normal control group and rabbits were observed 30 minutes
after the partial occlusion (acute group). In 10
rabbits observations were made about 10 days after
the partial occlusion when ascites and liver cirrhosis
appeared, which was confirmed postmortem (chronic
group). The findings were as follows:
1. Time course of RISA dilution curve was shortened
in occluded group. The shortening of time constants
of RISA dilution curve was prominent in the ch
rome group
2. There was an increase in cardiac output in the
chronic group and no change in the acute group. Car
diac index increased to 2.27 l/m2/min in the chronic
group as compared to the control value of 1. 17 11m2
Imin.
3. Liver circulation was directly encroachα1 upon
by the partial occlusion of thoracic vena cava inferior.
Other regional circulation was far less affected by the
partial occlusion than the liver circulation.
4. RISA uptake was greatest in liver in all 3 groups.
There was an increased RISA uptake by liver in the
chronic group, particularly.
5. Organ blood flow manifested the same behavior
as the RISA uptake- There was an increased bl0여
flow in liver after partial occlusion. This increased
liver blood flow was prominent in the chronic group
where ascites and liver cirrhosis appeared
Blood volume in cobalt chloride induced polycythaemia of rats.
Polycythaemia was produced in 10 adult
albino rats by administration of cobalt chloride.
The total blood volume was measured with T-1824
and the values were compared to the normal
control group (N=15). The following findings
were obtained.
1. Red blood cell count, hematocrit value and
hemoglobin concentration were significantly incr·
eased in the experimental group.
2. Plasma volume of experimental group was
3.80土. 12ml/100 g and was significantly smaller
than that of normal group, value being 4.14土.18
ml/100 g.
3. There was no difference of total blood volume
between the two groups. Total blood volume was
7.41 土0.37 ml/100 gram. Thus, in cobalt administered
rat, there was a normovolemic polycythaemi
