A Study of Primary Enamel Pretreatments and their effects on Composite resin
retention
Seung-Hee Chin
Dept. of Pedodontics, Division of dentistry Yonsei University.
(Directed by Assistant Prof. Soon-Joo Kim ,D.D.S., Ph.D.)
The effects of various enamel pretreatments on bonding strength between primary
enamel and composite resin were investigated by measuring the shear strength of
samples. Pretreatment included: Grinding of outer enamel surface, varied exposure
time to 37% Phosphoric acid, and the use of the bonding agent and coupling agent.
The results were as follows:
1. The mean bond strengths obtained after 3 different etching times ware not
significantly different(p>0.05).
2. Grinding of outer enamel surface enhanced the bond strength between the enamel
surfaces and composite resins.
3. An use of bonding agent with composite resin, enhanced the bond strength
between the enamel surfaces and composite resins.
4. An use of coupling agent with composite resin, did not influence on bond
strength between the enamel and composite resin surfaces.
