In this digital healthcare environment, nursing informatics competency is recognized as one of the nurse's essential competencies for safe and quality nursing care. However, domestic researches have difficulty while using translations of the nursing informatics competency measurement tool developed by foreign languages accurately measure the level of nursing informatics competency. Therefore, a tool that can be applied to a Korean clinical situation is needed. Thus, this study developed a tool for measuring the nursing informatics competency of Korean clinical general nurses. The tool was developed through a process of development and evaluation. First of all, in the tool development process, the concept of nursing informatics competency was analyzed using a hybrid model, and the initial 52 items of the tool were derived based on the result of the concept analysis. After content validity by 6 expert and item evaluation by 20 nurses, the scale was revised to include 35 items. Next, psychometric testing of the developed tool, 127 nurses were surveyed by using 35 developed items. Structural validity was confirmed through item evaluation and confirmatory factor analysis. As a result of confirmatory factor analysis, 20 items of 5 factors were extracted. The extracted factors were Basic ICT use (3 items), Nursing information use (5 items), Professional responsibilities and ethics (5 items), ICT use in nursing (4 items), and Attitudes toward nursing informatics (3 items). The reliability of the developed scale was evaluated by Chronbach's alpha of .91, confirming the stability of the tool. In this study, a self-administered nursing informatics competency tool with 20 items was developed. The results of the research are expected to contribute to improving nursing informatics competency by being used in a variety of ways such as follow-up studies, educational program development, and measuring educational effects.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the rat periodontal ligament cell viability under 0โˆ˜C/20^{\circ}C/2 MPa condition up to one week using in vivo 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-y1)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Materials and Methods: As soon as 110 upper molar teeth of rats were extracted, they were stored in Hartman's solution under 0โˆ˜C/20^{\circ}C/2 MPa condition for 1, 2, 3, 4, and 7 days each. All specimens were treated with in vivo MTT assay and the value of optical density was measured by ELISA reader. These values were statistically analyzed by one-way ANOVA. Result: There was no statistical difference on MTT value between immediate and 1 day storage group. There were statistically significant differences between 1 day and 2 days tsorage, 2 and 3 days storage groups, respectively. Teeth of 34, and 7 days storage groups showed significantly lower MTT valuesc ompared with shorter period storage groups. Conclusion: When the MTT values were substituted in standard curve, 1 day storage group at 0โˆ˜C/20^{\circ}C/2 MPa condition showed 68% cell viability when compared with immediate group. It dropped to 13% at 2 days, and to less than 5% at 3 days or more.ope

Racial and ethnic disparities are well known in healthcare and occur when using health information. How immigrants use health information is unknown in Korea. Thus, in this paper, the use of health information by immigrants in Korea and the effect factors that could influence the use of health information were examined. Methods: A survey tool was developed based on the Andersen Behavioral Health Model. The use of health information and the effect factors were explained by using 3 factors: the predisposition factors, enabling factors and needs factors. The questionnaire was served in four languages including Korean, English, Mongolian and Vietnamese. The survey was conducted in clinics that give free medical services to immigrants, and 170 adult immigrants from 19 nations participated in total. Data was analyzed by correlation analysis and regression analysis. Results: The results of the correlation analysis between the sufficient use of health information and the three factors showed that the highest correlation was found in the education level of the predisposition factors, health information capacity of the enabling factors and health status of the needs factors. These variables were designated as representative variables for each factor. Regression analysis showed that the needs factor did not have a significant effect on the sufficient use of health information but that the predisposition and enabling factors had a significant main effect on the sufficient use of health information. Among the predictors, the enabling factor had the strongest effect on the sufficient use of health information. The predisposition factor did not have a significant effect on the needs factorhowever, the enabling factor had a significant effect on the needs factor. The predisposition factor had a significant effect on the enabling factor. Conclusion: In this study, the predisposition and enabling factors significantly affected the sufficient use of health information by immigrants living in Korea. Thus, concern and focus on increasing enabling factors are needed to improve the sufficient use of health information. Furthermore, social supports and policies are important to access health information easily and for its sufficient use.

    Get PDF
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the perspective of consumers in healthcare services regarding patient safety. Methods: The study was a descriptive study using a self-reported questionnaire. The questionnaire was based on the Senior Empowerment and Advocacy in Patient Safety (SEAPS) questionnaire, which was designed to assess patient safety health beliefs. The survey was conducted online and a convenient sample of 302 adults participated in total. The reliability of the measurement (Cronbach's โบ) was 0.758 in attitude (ATT), 0.546 in outcome efficacy (OE), 0.757 in self-efficacy (SE), and 0.703 in behaviors (BEH). Results: The average patient safety awareness score of the healthcare service consumers was 2.72 (ATT), 2.91 (OE), 2.87 (SE), and 2.27 (BEH). Our analysis indicated that there were no differences in ATT, BEH, or SE by gender, age, or education level. However, in OE and the total score of the four subscales, there were significant differences by age and gender. Correlations were identified between BEH and SE (r=0.409, p<.01), BEH and OE (r=0.202, p<.01), ATT and SE (r=0.358, p<.01), and OE and SE (r=0.241, p<.01). Conclusion: This study measured consumer perspectives concerning patient safety. The findings demonstrate the need for developing a measurement tool to assess consumer's perception of patient safety, considering Korean healthcare system and cultural context
