The role of S100A8 on nitric oxide production of macrophages
MasterVarious studies have shown that nitric oxide (NO) from macrophages in tumor microenvironment can promote tumor progression in multiple ways including inflammation, transformation, altered metabolism, tumor angiogenesis and metastasis. Even though S100A8 of macrophages is well known for involving in promoting the inflammatory response in infection, its correlation with nitric oxide production in tumor microenvironment is not fully understood. Therefore, we hypothesized that S100A8 activated nitric oxide production of macrophages thereby promoting tumor development. To test our hypothesis, we measured NO level and performed western blot analysis against S100A8. Not only co-culture of LLC or treatment of LLC sup but also S100A8 significantly induced NO production through NFkB/iNOS signaling pathway in bone marrow derived macrophages (BMDM). We also observed an increased expression of S100A8 in BMDMs co-cultured with Lewis Lung Carcinoma (LLC) or treated with LLC supernatant. Furthermore, we found out that BMDM co-cultured with LLC increased TNFฮฑ expression and it promoted S100A8 expression in autocrine manner. In conclusion, macrophages that are infiltrated into tumor microenvironment increased TNFฮฑ-induced S100A8 expression and it promoted NO production through S100A8-dependent NFkB/iNOS axis

Effects of an educational program of pregnancy and delivery on pregnancy related knowledge, newborn care knowledge, and postpartum care self-efficacy of marriage immigrant women
Purpose: This study was designed to evaluate the effects of an educational program on pregnancy and delivery including pregnancy related knowledge, newborn care knowledge, and postpartum care self-efficacy for married immigrant women. Methods: A nonequivalent control group quasi-experimental design was used. The educational program was developed by though an educational need assessment of married immigrant women and an expert opinion. The program was provided for 3 weeks, once a week for two hours. The data were analyzed with SPSS program using Kolmogorov-Smirnov, c 2 -test, Fisher's exact test, and t-test. Results: The program significantly improved pregnancy related knowledge, newborn care knowledge, and postpartum care self-efficacy for the married immigrant women who participated in the program compared to the women who did not. Conclusion: The results indicate that the educational program has an affirmative effect on pregnancy related knowledge, knowledge of newborn care, and postpartum care self-efficacy in these women. It is suggested, therefore, that the educational program be used to every married immigrant woman at the public health centers or delivery clinics help them to adjust to the childbearing and childrearing experience and this will ultimately enhance the quality of family life of married immigrant women in Korea
