[์˜๋ฌธ] Mast cells of the peripheral nerve were changed after crush injury of the adult rat. Mast cell changes comprises early degranulation of the injured site and late proliferation distal to the injury. However the differences between the mast cell changes of adult rats and young rats were not yet investigated. So we study the numerical change of mast cells of the tibial and sciatic nerver in young and adult rats after crushing injury. Crushing injury of the sciatic verve at greater trochanter were made on the young rats 13 days after birth and adult rats weight around 200gm. 2 days, 5 days 10 days, 1 month, and 5 months after injury, rats were sacrificed and sciatic nerve proximal to the lesion and tibial nerve distal to the lesion were obtained. Specimens were embedded in epon and sectioned with ultramicrotome thickness about 1ใŽ› and stained with toluidine blue. Mast cell numbers were increased 1.7 times after 1 month and 4.4 times after 5 months after injury at the tibial nerve increased 1.3 and 1.7 times after 1 and 5 months respectively.
