Gender Differentials in the Payoff to Schooling in China
This paper examines the gender differential in the payoff to schooling in China. The analyses are conducted separately for rural and urban areas, and are based on a framework provided by the over education/required education/under education literature, and the decomposition developed by Chiswick and Miller (2008). It shows that the payoff to correctly matched education in rural China is much higher for females than for males. Associated with this, the wage penalty where workers are under qualified in their occupation is greater for females than for males. Both of these factors are shown to be linked to the higher payoff to schooling for females than for males. Over educated females, however, are advantaged compared with their male counterparts, though this has little effect on the differential in the payoff to schooling between males and females in rural China. These findings are interpreted using the explanations offered for the gender differential in the payoff to schooling in the growing literature on earnings determination in China. Simulating Quantum Spin Hall Effect in Topological Lieb Lattice of Linear Circuit
Inspired by the topological insulator circuit proposed and experimentally
verified by Jia., et al. \cite{1}, we theoretically realized the topological
Lieb lattice, a line centered square lattice with rich topological properties,
in a radio-frequency circuit. We open the topological nontrivial band-gap
through specific capacitor-inductor network, which resembles adding intrinsic
spin orbit coupling term into the tight binding model. Finally, we discuss the
extension of the phase change of hopping between sites to
arbitrary value, and investigate the topological phase transition of the band
structure vary with capacitance, thereby paving the way for designing tunable

Exposing image forgery by detecting traces of feather operation
Powerful digital image editing tools make it very easy to produce a perfect image forgery. The feather operation is necessary when tampering an image by copy–paste operation because it can help the boundary of pasted object to blend smoothly and unobtrusively with its surroundings. We propose a blind technique capable of detecting traces of feather operation to expose image forgeries. We model the feather operation, and the pixels of feather region will present similarity in their gradient phase angle and feather radius. An effectual scheme is designed to estimate each feather region pixel׳s gradient phase angle and feather radius, and the pixel׳s similarity to its neighbor pixels is defined and used to distinguish the feathered pixels from un-feathered pixels. The degree of image credibility is defined, and it is more acceptable to evaluate the reality of one image than just using a decision of YES or NO. Results of experiments on several forgeries demonstrate the effectiveness of the technique
ALLOGYOGENETIC PROGENY ARE PRODUCED FROM A HYBRID ABALONE CROSS OF FEMALE HALIOTIS DIVERSICOLOR AND MALE HALIOTIS DISCUS DISCUS
Interspecific hybrid families of female Haliotis diversicolor X male H. discus discus were produced and analyzed using amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) technology to reveal the genetic makeup of F1 progenies. The survival rates of the hybrid F1 were very low, ranging from 0-0.13%. Twenty hybrid F1 from 3 families along with 3 different female parents and their common male parent were analyzed with 3 AFLP primer combinations. In total, 266 markers were detected. Genetic relationships among the progenies and the parents were evaluated by generating a similarity and genetic distance matrix. The genetic divergence between Haliotis diversicolor and Haliotis discus was at a high level, with genetic distance ranging from 1.471-1.492. The AFLP band patterns of hybrid F1 progeny were similar to those of the female parents, but were quite different from that of the male parent. The mean genetic distance between hybrid F1 and their female parents were 0.024-0.039, slightly less than that among the female parents, which indicates that the hybrid F1 shared high genetic similarity with their female parents, Haliotis diversicolor. However, 0-0.8% of total AFLP bands of each individual were found to be parental bands, and 0-3.3% were found to be nonparental bands. The possible reason for the presence of paternal-specific and nonparental bands is discussed
