Generative Adversarial Perturbations
In this paper, we propose novel generative models for creating adversarial
examples, slightly perturbed images resembling natural images but maliciously
crafted to fool pre-trained models. We present trainable deep neural networks
for transforming images to adversarial perturbations. Our proposed models can
produce image-agnostic and image-dependent perturbations for both targeted and
non-targeted attacks. We also demonstrate that similar architectures can
achieve impressive results in fooling classification and semantic segmentation
models, obviating the need for hand-crafting attack methods for each task.
Using extensive experiments on challenging high-resolution datasets such as
ImageNet and Cityscapes, we show that our perturbations achieve high fooling
rates with small perturbation norms. Moreover, our attacks are considerably
faster than current iterative methods at inference time.Comment: CVPR 2018, camera-ready versio
An Analysis of Self-Reported Suicide Attempts and Ideation in a National Sample of Incarcerated Sex Offenders
Suicide is the leading cause of preventable death in US jails and prisons, with rates three to nine times higher than those of the general population. Although suicide in correctional settings has been recognized as a serious problem, the research on suicide among incarcerated individuals remains limited. While the majority of suicide risk factors may be common across all offender types, sex offenders may be at a particularly elevated risk. Specifically, sex offenders have been found to report high rates of hopelessness and depressive mood, which are known predictors of suicidal behavior, and approximately 14% of incarcerated sex offenders have previously reported a suicide attempt at some point in their lives. However, most of this data is based upon official reports and may represent an underreporting of the true prevalence of the problem. The current study provides an analysis of the prevalence and predictors of self-reported suicidal thoughts and behaviors in a large national sample of individuals convicted of a sexually based crime. Overall, 17.9% of sex offenders reported an attempted suicide in their lifetime and 15.1% reported experiencing suicidal ideation. A little more than a half of those who reported a suicide attempt had more than one suicide attempt. Demographic, mental health, and victim characteristics, along with a history of abuse and living environment in childhood, are presented in relation to suicidal behavior, followed by predictive hierarchical logistic regression models. Significant factors in the final model for suicide attempts were a history of psychiatric treatment, impact of a mental disorder, a history of physical abuse, and being in the foster care system in childhood. For suicidal ideation, predictive factors in the final model were a history of psychiatric diagnosis and treatment, and a history of physical abuse. The findings are discussed as they pertain to suicide prevention and intervention efforts among those who have committed sex offenses

__Abstract__
The life-span of blood cells differs from very long – a maximum of 120 days for erythrocytes-
to very short -8 hours for granulocytes-. Hence, to preserve the cell numbers required
for normal function, hematopoiesis is a continuous process of blood cell maturation
and proliferation.
Hematopoiesis occurs in different organs and tissues during the first months of embryonic
life. It starts in the yolk sac during early developmental stages of an embryo, is taken over
mainly by the liver and in a very limited extent by the spleen during the second trimester
of pregnancy while the bone marrow is the most important organ involved in hematopoiesis
in the third trimester of pregnancy. The bone marrow will take over hematopoiesis
as most important organ from birth onwards, retaining this function throughout life. In
children, the bone marrow of the long bones such as the femur and the tibia is the most
important in hematopoiesis, while in adults hematopoiesis occurs mainly in flat bones:
the pelvis, cranium, vertebrae and sternum.
All hematopoietic cells originate from the pluripotent hematopoietic stem cell.
Normal function of blood cells can be roughly divided in three categories: delivery of oxy-gen to tissues by red blood cells, inflammation and wound healing by neutrophils, monocytes,
lymphocytes, eosinophils, basophils, and fibroblasts, and continuous surveillance
of blood vessels, blood clot formation and initiation of tissue repair by platelets
Application of dynamic priorities for controlling the characteristics of a queuing system
This paper considers the development and modification of an imitation model of a queuing system. The initial model uses the laws of control (discipline of expectation and service) with mixed priorities. The work investigates the model with three types of entities (absolute priority, relative priority and priority-free ones) in the regime of overload, i.e. a system with losses. Verification and validation of the created imitation model confirmed its adequateness and accuracy of received results. The application of dynamic priorities for changing the laws of model control substantially alters certain system characteristics. The creation of the model in MatLab Simulink environment with the use of SimEvents and Stateflow library modules allowed creating a fairly complex queuing system and obtain new interesting results
