Processing and management of information in the new age is being completed by the schools which are as seen the most important molder of the community, and for managing and maintain this image in the best way of course is the ultimate task of the school administrators. To execute this special task, the training of school administrators has an extreme importance and even recruiting them as school principals also another issue to consider about. However, when the criteria of becoming school principals is analyzed in Turkey, it is observed that there is a huge gap about this situation, whereas present trainings for school principals found not to supply the demand of school administrators. From this point of view, in this study the most popular trainings for school administrators abroad are reviewed, and it is found that mentoring system which is one of the training methods is very effective, thus, a mentor principal training was prepared by education experts and this training was given to 11 school administrators. As a result of this, an experimental study was conducted in order to scrutinize implications of mentor principal training. Two groups of 11 school administrators were chosen through random cluster sampling. Both groups were given a pre-test and a post-test. T-test analysis was done, and results of pre-test and post-test mean scores of the experimental group, which got mentor principal training, were meaningfully different in positive way. Lastly, both the main and the sub-hypotheses of the study were confirmed. Thus, the results provide a theoretical justification for the claims of the training school principals who got this training had positive perceptions through mentoring.  Article visualizations

The aim of this paper is to examine the relation between food prices, crude oil prices and BIST Industrials and Food Beverage indicies using Johansen Cointegration and Vector Error Correction methods. The relation between these factors has been examined for the time period 1997:1-2016:4 using monthly data in this study. Johansen Cointegration results indicate that there is long run relation between between BIST 100, BIST Industrials, BIST Food and Beverage indices and Food and crude oil prices. It is found in this study that food and energy prices Granger cause BIST indices in the long run. However, we couldn’t find any short run causality between these factors. Though there are number of studies investigating the effects of crude oil pricess on BIST Indsutrial Index as far as we know, there is no study examining the effects of food prices on BIST indices. Hence, by filling this gap in literature, this study is expected to be useful for researhers working on this issue

Purpose. To compare the measurements of optical versus ultrasonic biometry devices in keratoconic eyes. Materials and Methods. Forty-two eyes of 42 keratoconus (KC) patients enrolled in the study were examined. Clinical and demographic characteristics of the patients were noted, and detailed ophthalmological examination was performed. Following Pentacam measurements, central corneal thickness (CCT), anterior chamber depth (ACD), lens thickness (LT), and axial length (AL) were obtained using the Lenstar and US biometer to determine the reproducibility of the measurements between the two devices in keratoconic eyes. The Bland-Altman method was used to describe the agreement between the two devices. Results. The Lenstar could not measure at least one of the biometric properties in one eye and did not automatically give the corrected ACD in 2/3 of our study population. The Lenstar measured CCT (average difference 5.4 ± 19.6 µm; ICC = 0.90; ), LT (average difference 0.13 ± 0.17 mm; ICC = 0.67; ), and AL (average difference 0.10 ± 0.76 mm; ICC = 0.75; ) thinner than US biometer, whereas it measured ACD (average difference 0.18 ± 0.17 mm; ICC = 0.85; ) deeper than US biometer in keratoconic eyes. Conclusion. Although the difference between the measurements obtained using the two devices might be clinically acceptable, US biometry and Lenstar should not be used interchangeably for biometric measurements in KC patients

    Get PDF
Data for this phenomenological study of preschoolers’ prejudices were collected through an interview protocol developed by the researchers. The participants, selected using purposeful sampling, were 100 four- to six-year-old children from Van, Turkey. For data analysis, coders looked firstly at word or phrase repetition, and then at the connectors the children used. This revealed that the children had several distinct prejudices related to each of seven main themes drawn from the existing literature: (1) race, (2) age, (3) physical abilities, (4) physical characteristics, (5) economic class, (6) gender and (7) family composition. However, some of the children’s prejudices were nested and interrelated. For instance, when expressing prejudices related to age, they tended to exhibit their prejudices related to gender or physical characteristics

Introduction: The role of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of hyperemesis gravidarum (HEG) has been demonstrated in a lot of studies. The present study aimed to compare the ischaemia-modified albumin (IMA) serum levels of patients diagnosed with HEG with healthy pregnant women, and to investigate whether oxidative stress caused increased serum IMA in HEG. Methods: Pregnant women were classified into a group diagnosed with HEG (n=45) and an age- and body mass index-matched control group without HEG (n=45). Serum IMA levels were assessed by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method. Results: Serum IMA levels were higher in the HEG group than the control group (HEG: 8.2 +/- 0.2 ng/mL, control: 6.9 +/- 03 ng/mL, p<0.001). Conclusion: We found that HEG was related to increased maternal serum IMA levels. The high levels of IMA in HEG can he considered as a reflection of increased oxidative stress

    Get PDF
Objectives:This study aimed to examine factors associated with strabismus in patients with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and the relationship between strabismus and macular ectopia.Materials and Methods:Patients with ROP were divided into three groups: Group 1, patients with spontaneous regression (n=45); Group 2, patients who received laser treatment (n=70); and Group 3, patients who underwent surgical treatment (n=91). Rates of anisometropia, amblyopia, nystagmus, macular ectopia, and retinal pathologies were evaluated and their impacts on strabismus development were determined. Disc-to-fovea distance (DFD) was measured from color fundus photographs and the correlation of macular ectopia with severity of strabismus was evaluated. Results:A total of 206 patients were included. Rates of anisometropia, amblyopia, nystagmus, macular ectopia, retinal pathologies causing vision loss, and strabismus were higher in Group 3 (p=0.0001) and correlated with higher stages of ROP (p=0.0001). Macular ectopia (p=0.005), retinal pathologies (p=0.005), and amblyopia (p=0.012) had the strongest impact on strabismus development in ROP patients. DFD and strabismus severity were not significantly correlated (p=0.364). Mean visual acuity (VA) was significantly higher in orthophoric patients compared to those with esotropia and exotropia (p=0.027). Esotropic patients had lower VA compared to patients with exotropia, but this finding was not statistically significant (p=0.729).Conclusion:Presence of macular ectopia, retinal pathologies, and amblyopia were the most strongly correlated risk factors for strabismus development in ROP patients. DFD was not associated with severity of strabismus. Exotropia was mostly related to higher DFD and a possible relationship between esotropia and lower VA was observed

Objectives: In this study, optical coherence tomography (OCT) findings of the patients with a diagnosis of acute or chronic central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR) were investigated. Methods: Patients with symptoms and signs longer than 3 months were considered as chronic CSCR. OCT findings of acute and chronic CSCR were recorded at admission. Between the groups, following parameters were compared; visual acuity, hyper reflective dots (HRD), subretinal fluid height (SFH) presence of pigment epithelial detachment (PED), status of photoreceptor inner-outer segment (IS/OS) line. Results: When acute and chronic patients evaluated separately, in acute patients accompanied by PED had lower visual acuity and higher SRF height. In patients with chronic CSCR subretinal fluid of patients with PED was greater than the others however there were no statistically significant differences in visual acuity. Presence of HRD had no effect on the average visual acuity SRF height in patients with acute and chronic CSCR. Also IS/OS line integrity had no effect in visual acuity of the patients in our study. Conclusion: Between the groups there was no difference in terms of IS/OS line distortion, presence of HRD, PED. Height of SRF in patients with PED was higher in both groups. In addition, in acute patients with PED visual acuity was also found to be lower. J Clin Exp Invest 2014; 5 (2): 290-29
