Electromagnetic properties of the neutrinos in gamma-proton collision at the LHC

    We have investigated non-standard ννˉγ\nu \bar \nu \gamma and ννˉγγ\nu \bar \nu \gamma \gamma couplings via ννˉ\nu \bar \nu production in a γp\gamma p collision at the LHC. We obtain 95\% confidence level bounds on ννˉγ\nu \bar \nu \gamma and ννˉγγ\nu \bar \nu \gamma \gamma couplings by considering three different forward detector acceptances; 0.0015<ξ<0.150.0015 <\xi < 0.15, 0.0015<ξ<0.50.0015 <\xi < 0.5 and 0.1<ξ<0.50.1 <\xi < 0.5. We show that the reaction pppγppννˉqXp p\to p\gamma p\to p \nu \bar \nu q X provides more than eight orders of magnitude improvement in neutrino-two photon couplings compared to LEP limits.Comment: 18 pages, 5 figure

We examine the potential of pp-> p gamma p -> p W q X reaction to probe anomalous WWgamma couplings at the LHC. We find 95% confidence level bounds on the anomalous coupling parameters with various values of the integrated luminosity. We show that the reaction pp -> p gamma p -> p W q X at the LHC highly improve the current limits.Comment: 12 pages,3 figure

Nanoscale tunnel field effect transistor based on a complex oxide lateral heterostructure

We demonstrate a tunnel field effect transistor based on a lateral heterostructure patterned from an LaAlO3/SrTiO3\mathrm{LaAlO_3/SrTiO_3} electron gas. Charge is injected by tunneling from the LaAlO3\mathrm{LaAlO_3}/SrTiO3\mathrm{SrTiO_3} contacts and the current through a narrow channel of insulating SrTiO3\mathrm{SrTiO_3} is controlled via an electrostatic side gate. Drain-source I/V-curves have been measured at low and elevated temperatures. The transistor shows strong electric-field and temperature-dependent behaviour with a steep sub-threshold slope %of up to as small as 10mV/decade10\:\mathrm{mV/decade} and a transconductance as high as gm22μA/Vg_m\approx 22 \: \mathrm{\mu A/V}. A fully consistent transport model for the drain-source tunneling reproduces the measured steep sub-threshold slope.Comment: 20 pages, 6 figures, Supplementary material: 4 pages, 2 figure

The effect of electromagnetic properties of neutrinos on the photon-neutrino decoupling temperature

We examine the impact of electromagnetic properties of neutrinos on the annihilation of relic neutrinos with ultra high energy cosmic neutrinos for the ννˉγγ\nu \bar{\nu}\to \gamma\gamma process. For this process, photon-neutrino decoupling temperature is calculated via effective lagrangian model beyond the standard model. We find that photon-neutrino decoupling temperature can be importantly reduced below the QCD phase transition with the model independent analysis defining electromagnetic properties of neutrinos.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures, published versio

The purpose of this study is to determine the amount of bycatch and discardfish caught by bottom trawlers used in the Black Sea coasts of Turkey anddiscard changes depending on the depth. The study was conducted during theSeptember 2009 – April 2010 fishing season. Twenty-one bottom trawleroperations were sampled and the catch composition was determined. A total of 26species were caught, which included 22 species of fish, 2 species of arthropods,1 species of gastropods and 1 species of bivalves. Two of these were targetspecies (Mullusbarbatus, Merlangius merlangus), while 25 species werediscarded including trash fish and specimens below the legal size. A total of2142.76 kg of biomass was caught during the operations, of which 53.99 % bycatch. The weighted discard rate was determined as 42.06% and two different groupswere identified in discards (T1: 10-57 m, T2: 72-118 m) based on the depth. Significantdifferences were identified between these depth groups (p0.05) between theecological parameters of landings

Open borders, closed minds: the discursive construction of national identity in North Cyprus

    Get PDF
The article investigates the discursive construction of a Turkish Cypriot national identity by the newspapers in North Cyprus. It questions the representation and reconstruction processes of national identity within the press and examines the various practices employed to mobilize readers around certain national imaginings. Using Critical Discourse Analysis, the article analyses news reports of the opening of border crossings in Cyprus in 2003, based on their content, the strategies used in the production of national identity and the linguistic means employed in the process. In this way, the nationalist tendencies embedded in news discourses, as well as discriminatory and exclusive practices, are sought out
