Zagrożenia dla lotnictwa cywilnego
Ensuring security in the civil aviation sector is a priority activity for many aviation organizations. This is confirmed by numerous documents regulating civil aviation security problems, issued not only at the level of national and EU law, but also in conventions of international scope. The risk of security disruption in civil aviation is enormous because there are many risks that can contribute to the loss of security. There are attempts to counteract them, however, if they are be effective, it is necessary to be aware of the dangers and their potential consequences. They may have a military, non-military background, or come from an internal or external environment of a given aviation organization. Various possible threats originating from these sources have been presented and described in the article.
Impact of low glycemic diet on body weight reduction in overweight or obese patients
The concept of glycemic index (GI) was introduced more than 30 years ago and it defines
the value of glycemic response after consuming certain kinds of foods. Glycemic index was
intended to enhance classification of food and to support preventive measures and treatment
of diseases connected with impaired metabolism of carbohydrate.
It is supposed that a diet based on low glycemic index facilitates body weight reduction.
There are numerous studies which prove that body weight reduction measured in kilograms
or with the BMI after using a diet based on carbohydrates with low GI/GL is comparable to próbuthe
weight loss when using isoenergetic diets based on carbohydrates with high GI or conventional
low-fat diets.
It has been proved that low glycemic diet has positive impact on patients with diabetes, as
well as patients with lipid disorders and those with high risk of ischaemic heart disease.
It is very important to systematize methods of evaluation and using GI by dieticians, consumers
and patients and to specify the role of this indicator in prevention and treatment.
porównywane do efektów redukcji masy ciała podczas stosowania izoenergetycznych diet
i u osób z ryzykiem wystąpienia choroby niedokrwiennej serca.
Dietary pattern in initial familiar hypercholesterolaemia
Familiar hypercholesterolaemia is a genetically conditioned disease, subject to autosomal dominant inheritance. It is characterized by a significantly higher level of cholesterol LDL (LDL-C) in serum and high risk of premature development of atherosclerotic coronary disease. The main aim of pharmacological hypolipidemic treatment is reducing of LDL-cholesterol. The first choice in hypolipidemic treatment are statins. Adding resins or ezetimib to statin may be considered if the desired level of LDL-C has not been reached. The diet of patients with familiar hypercholesterolaemia should be poor in saturated fatty acids (≤ 7%), and cholesterol (< 200 mg/day). The role in diet of unsaturated fatty acids, plant sterols and stanols is also emphasised
Anthropometry and body composition of adolescents in Cracow, Poland
The aim of the present study was to determine the level of adiposity and obesity in Polish adolescents and compare the results with earlier studies conducted in this population as well as those carried out in other populations. The study group consisted of 456 boys and 514 girls aged 14-18 years living in Cracow chosen from randomly selected secondary schools. Weight, height, waist, and hip circumference (WC, HC) as well as triceps, biceps, subscapular, and suprailiac skinfold thickness (SFT) were measured. Body mass index (BMI), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), subscapular/triceps skinfold ratio (STR), and percentage body fat were computed. The prevalence of overweight and obesity based on Polish children growth reference were calculated and age-dependent and gender-specific smoothed percentile curves for BMI and ROC curves were generated.Weight, height, WC, HC (up 16yr), WHtR (up 15yr), and WHR were considerably higher in males than females. Weight, height, and HC increased with age; WHtR remained the same. The prevalence of overweight and obesity were 10.2% (boys 10.3%; girls 10.1%) and 4.2% (boys 5.3%; girls 3.3%). ROC analysis revealed that WHtR was the best tool for detection of obesity (AUC of 0.982±0.007) in males, whereas the sum of four SFTs (AUC: 0.968±0.011) and WHtR (AUC: 0.963±0.012) were the best predictors of obesity in females. The level of adiposity in Cracow adolescents increased during the last decade. However, it is still lower than in other well-developed societies struggling with obesity epidemics
Obesity, knowledge of diet and healthy behaviors in children and adolescents from small towns and villages - results of Polish Project of 400 Cities
znalezienie związku pomiędzy wiedzą i zachowaniami zdrowotnymi
dzieci a ryzykiem wystąpienia nadmiaru masy ciała.
MATERIAŁ I METODY. Badaniami objęto 1515 osób w wieku 6-18
lat pochodzących z małych miast i wsi.
talii, obwodu ramienia prawego, wzrostu i masy ciała).
WYNIKI. Nadwagę rozpoznano u 9,0%, a otyłość u 5,1% respondentów.
W grupie wiekowej 14-18 lat u dziewcząt statystycznie
które należy konsumować, by zachować zdrowie. Starsze dzieci
istotnie częściej wskazywały na: stres, palenie tytoniu, spożywanie
tłustego mięsa, słodyczy, "bycie grubasem", brak aktywności fizycznej
jako czynniki, które są niekorzystne dla zdrowia. Chłopcy więcej
czasu spędzali przed monitorem komputera i telewizora niż
dziewczęta - wraz z wiekiem zjawisko to było bardziej nasilone.
WNIOSKI.
telewizorem i monitorem komputera.
Pomimo świadomości żywieniowej posiadanej przez dzieci nadal
istnieje potrzeba ciągłej edukacji w zakresie zdrowego stylu życia.
Endokrynologia, Otyłość i Zaburzenia Przemiany Materii 2010, tom 6, nr 2, 59-66INTRODUCTION. Apart from genetic predispositions, environmental
factors play huge role, including health behaviors and knowledge
of healthy lifestyle in children and adolescents.
The aim of the study was to estimate the frequency of overweight
and obesity among children and adolescents from small towns
and villages and tracing association between the knowledge and
health behaviors in children and overweight risk
MATERIAL AND METHODS. The research was conducted in
a group of 1515 healthy children aged 6-18 from small towns and
villages. The questionnaires, blood pressure and anthropometric
measurements were done in all studied children.
RESULTS. Overweight was diagnosed when body mass index for
on age sex identified surpassed 90th centile, and obesity - when it
was above 95th centile. Overweight was diagnosed in 9.0%, and
obesity in 5.1% of respondents. Excess body mass was statistically
more frequently observed in girls then in boys aged 14-18. These
girls substantially more frequently pointed at whole meal bread,
smoked sausages, meat and poultry as products, which are necessary
to keep fit. Older children more often pointed at stress,
smoking cigarettes, consuming fatty meat, sweets and "being
plump". Lack of physical activity is factor, which damage health.
Boys spent more time in front of the computer or TV than girls -
as the children grow the phenomenon intensified.
CONCLUSIONS. The knowledge of eating habits is not enough to
maintain proper body weight.
The girls have more knowledge of eating habits than boys, but
overweight is more frequently observed in girls.
In older group of children lower physical activity was observed as
consequence of longer watching TV and using computer.
Although children have eating habits knowledge there is a constant
need for healthy life style education for children and adolescents.

Secondary malignancy in patients with essential thrombocythemia – case reports
Obecnie coraz więcej uwagi zwraca się na inny powód, jakim jest rozwój u tych chorych wtórnych nowotworów niehematologicznych.ET is a relatively indolent disease, but a shorter survival of patients has been observed. Previously the main risk factors for reduced survival time were advanced age and the history of thrombotic complications. Recently the other cause of reduced survival is put on – secondary nonhematological neoplasms
Providing on board aircraft security
This article presents the threats to civil aviation, which may be committed on board aircraft. There are also described solutions, which implemented can increase the security of aircraft. This directly influences the security of the entire civil aviation sector. Many procedures can be introduced by airlines (air carriers) on board aircraft, within the aircraft while its layover, or stand on the airport’s surfaces for protection against threats
Operational solutions aimed at safeguarding civil aviation against acts of unlawful interference
Improvement and increase of safeguarding civil aviation against acts of unlawful interference can be achieved at airports and on board aircraft, through the implementation of appropriate systems and devices. In addition to improving safeguarding civil aviation against such acts, solutions described as operational may be used; these usually are directly aimed at ensuring the safety and security of civil aviation. This research focuses on operational solutions that are used for safeguarding civil aviation against acts of unlawful interference. As a clue, safeguarding civil aviation is understood to be the whole organisational and legal, as well as operational and technical framework, undertaken to prevent acts of unlawful interference endangering the safety and security of civil aviation. The purpose of this study was to characterise operational solutions affecting the provision of civil aviation safeguarding against acts of unlawful interference. The research question was defined thus: What are the existing and potential operational solutions implemented at airports, and on board aircraft; do they improve and increase safeguarding civil aviation against acts of unlawful interference? As a hypothesis, it was assumed that there are many solutions, devices, activities, etc. used to safeguard civil aviation against acts of unlawful interference. All of them may be implemented within airports, on board aircraft, as well as can be taken in the forms of the operational solutions. Operational solutions are implemented through the provision and use of personal, organisational and procedural forces and resources and through the establishment of appropriate services. The existence and mutual correlations of these elements have an impact on improving the safeguarding of civil aviation against acts of unlawful interference
