The article presents the contacts of Sigizmund Krzhizhanovsky, a Russian writer of Polish origin, with literary magazines of the first decades of Soviet Russia. Krzhizhanovsky, as a representative of the avantgarde and the Polish nobleman, met with a politically motivated ban on printing. Most of his works were published for the first time only during the period of perestroika. Some of his smaller works, however, saw the light of day thanks to literary magazines. The aim of the article is to present the socio-political situation in which the writer found himself and to outline the balance of power prevailing in the literary life of the time

Dwa obrazy Aszkenazyjczyka - o wątkach żydowskich w "Pierwszej polce" Horsta Bienka i "Opowiadaniach odeskich" Izaaka Babla

The figures of Ashkenazi Jews appear in works representing various cultural backgrounds. A very interesting light on the literary way of shaping their image is shed by the characters of works that are very culturally and thematically distant from each other: The First Polka by Horst Bienek and The Odessa Tales by Isaac Babel. Georg Montag and Benia Krik represent two different approaches to the question of the existence of the Jewish nation, its coexistence with representatives of the dominant culture and the preservation of identity. Thanks to the analysis, one can observe not only numerous assimilation crises, but also the characteristics of the described cultural and social norms

On recovering the second-order convergence of the lattice Boltzmann method with reaction-type source terms

This study derives a method to consistently recover the second-order convergence of the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM), which is frequently degraded by the improper discretisation of required source terms. The work focuses on advection-diffusion models in which the source terms are dependent on the intensity of transported fields. The main findings are applicable to a wide range of formulations within the LBM framework. All considered source terms are interpreted as contributions to the zeroth-moment of the distribution function. These account for sources in a scalar field, such as density, concentration or temperature. In addition to this, certain immersed boundary methods can be interpreted as a source term in their formulation, highlighting a further application for this work. This paper makes three primary contributions to the current state-of-the-art. Firstly, it identifies the differences observed between the ways source terms are included in the LBM schemes present in the literature. The algebraic manipulations are explicitly presented in this paper to clarify the differences observed, and identify their origin. Secondly, it derives in full detail, the implicit relation between the value of the transported macroscopic field, and the sum of the LBM densities. Moreover, this relation is valid for any source term discretization scheme, and three equivalent forms of the second-order accurate collision operator are presented. Finally, closed-form solutions of this implicit relation are shown for a variety of common models. The second-order convergence of the proposed LBM schemes is verified on both linear and non-linear source terms. Commonly used diffusive and acoustic scalings are discussed, and their pitfalls are identified. Moreover, for a simplified case, the competing errors are shown visually with isolines of error in the space of spatial and temporal resolutions

Spisek i absurd. Obraz Żyda w literaturze rosyjskiego postmodernizmu

The figure of a Jew is one of the most common literary concepts in the works of Russian postmodernism. It arouses particular interest among artists from conceptual circles. A characteristic feature of Jewish characters of this type is bias, expressed primarily in the selection of strictly defined features, traditionally attributed to Semitic people. The abandonment of in-depth psychologization and the creation of a universal model of the Jew makes it possible to use this concept in a literary game, the main aim of which is to deconstruct certain phenomena of political and social life. The analysis carried out by the author of the article allows to observe the artistic and philosophical concepts used for this purpose, as well as the broader plan of the current social view of Jews and the Jewish cultural context

Manaraga – Władimir Sorokin i ostateczna dekonstrukcja tradycji literackiej

The deconstruction of the literary tradition is one of the most frequently used postmodern motifs. It is the main point of many works of Russian postmodernists. Due to the exceptional achievements of Russian writers and the considerable influence on forming social consciousness their activity is subject to critical analysis in many works of all waves of Russian postmodernism. In this context Vladimir Sorokin's texts make their mark – for many of them the deconstruction of literary tradition and hermeneutics is a defining category. The deconstruction of the literary tradition is one of the most frequently used postmodern motifs. The Language of a Minority – Horst Bienek’s The First Polka in the Context of Minor Literatures

The interest in minor literatures—as described by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari on the basis of an analysis of Franz Kafka’s works—occupy a special place in contemporary literary life. Minority, expressed in different ways, is not only limited to political and social relations between a representative of a minority and the dominant culture, but also translates into a wide ontological field, responsible for the development of a different cognitive apparatus and numerous modifications of the existing cultural norms, including, above all, the official language. A special manifestation of the minoritarity is the output of Horst Bienek—a German- speaking Silesian, who repeatedly refers to the category of minoritarity. This study focuses on the issue of language in the novel The First Polka, which opens his so-called Gliwice tetralogy. The way in which the writer refers to the dominant language and sound layer is in many respects consistent with the schizoanalytical interpretation, which gave birth to this understanding of minoritarity in literary texts
